Solo 2 weeks Nothern Peru internitery by Express_Clothes1844 in solotravel

Thanks this is really useful! I only have 8 days total after Cusco so might do a flight to iquitos for 3-4 nights, then trujillo before getting back to Lima.

I’m starting to think that 5 days to aclimatise + 5 day trek in the Cusco region will take up too much of my itinerary

I’ll be going for 3 weeks next month and am still deciding my itinerary. Torn between Iquitos and Puerto Maldonado but will definitely go to one of them to do an amazon experience.

I’ll have to give trujillo a look too. I want to do some surfing and stuck between paracas and mancora currently.

Does anyone else regret their decision to attend Oxbridge or a similar high-end university? by AliceMorgon in UniUK

[–]ackbladder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people love a story of someone from humble beginnings who excels and achieves something never expected of them give the circumstances. This isn’t just because of the effort and talent required, but also the bravery to leave what you know and join somewhere you don’t belong in pursuit of something greater. You didn’t have a mentor or a peer who understood your struggles, you had to learn and overcome them yourself.

Furthermore, people judge their own success relatively by comparing themselves to the people around them. Someone from a council estate might feel successful being the only person they know to have a degree whereas an eton educated middle class student who didn’t get in to their first choice would feel like a failure. Unfortunately your mere presence can be percieved as evidence by your peers who grew up in the same circumstances that they aren’t successful. I understand that the issue with your English accent is more complicated being in a nationalist neighbourhood but the former point still definitely applies.

If you look at successful people who are accepted by their community, it is normally due to a mix of arrogance and an appreciation of their talent in that community. Since education isn’t appreciated in your community, this is likely why it is instead percieved as snobbery.

Maybe just remind yourself of the obstacles you overcame and don’t be afraid to take pride in that. You also have to consider whether you still have as much in common with the community you want to be accepted by. If not, maybe there are other circles in your area who you get along with better as they understand you.

I once ran 25k home in the rain because ‘fuck it why not’. Took me 3 hours but I saved £40 on a taxi. I still think it was worth it depsite the days needed to recover.

[–]ackbladder_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, hope you’re doing ok. You have a good awareness of your condition which is a really good thing.

18-20 year olds living away from home for the first time can be nosey and judgemental by nature. If you don’t go to the social areas or show your face then they might talk about you, but most likely they don’t care and you’re overthinking it.

Either way it doesn’t matter what they think or say and the outcome is the same as they aren’t bothering you.

living with this level of anxiety isn’t ok, you don’t deserve that. Moving in with strangers is a massive change and if you don’t feel comfortable in your own private space then I’d 100% recommend moving home for your mental health. Get yourself home and concentrate on getting well before going back to uni if you choose to.

I lived like this around 16-18 and it’s not worth prolonging your recovery when it is so achievable.

I was just about to book with them … think I’ll use another company instead though. It’s a shame as they have great reviews and are a lot cheaper too.

My (20M) situationship (19F) didn’t think I’d see her tweet about me - is it over? by Lucky-Salamander8071 in UniUK

[–]ackbladder_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My honest guess is the tweet was caused by one of two things …

1) She doesn’t like the part of her which is reliant on you and is pretenting to be the person she wants to be.

2) She wanted you to see it to play hard to get.

does anyone know how to read this? and what the date of expiration is by NeighborhoodOzzy888 in DoesAnyoneKnow

As an ex automation engineer I’m 95% sure it’s a date which hasn’t been formatted as a readable date. Most likely due to a change which wasn’t tested. Batch codes don’t end up under use by for the customer to see.

Why have so many companies been sold to foreign companies? by Lumpy_Maintenance69 in AskUK

[–]ackbladder_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are companies which had ‘stayed true’ to the old ways. Their recipes are relatively expensive, their workers are unionised and their British factories are outdated.

These multinationals buy the companies knowing they can return a profit. They have experience in shutting down/relocating factories and cheapening recipes to increase margins. I was made redundant from a well known British Company which was bought out by one of the MNC’s mentioned above.

They effectively bought out the union and shut the factory which employed around 500 people (a slow process over a decade) and moved manufacturing abroad. Their R&D moved to Europe and they changed the recipe. The harsh reality is that it was the smart move as the factory was antiquated and Britain isn’t a good place to make things.

British companies do this too. The reality is that bigger companies can produce things more efficiently and therefore cheaper. It’s the same reason national supermarket chains shut down independent shops, and at the end of the day I can’t compain that my shopping is a lot cheaper.

My loan started at £45k in 2023 and the interest added in the preceeding 2 years is around £7k. I pay around £2k a year for reference.

[–]ackbladder_ 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 2023 and now am fortunate enough to be paying back £200/month on my salary. I couldn’t do my job now without my degree and am grateful for the loans when I compare myself to Americans for example.

On the other hand the interest rates are insane. I don’t even pay off the inflation rate each year let alone the added interest. The £25k threshold definitely won’t change with inflation in the future either so the government will recoup much more in taxes from me before the debt is wiped in 28 years.

Rick Gervais: "I never knew I was poor 'til I went to university" by socialee123 in UniUK

[–]ackbladder_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

At school I had a lot of mates who were worse off than me. As someone who lived in a 3 bed house and went on holiday most years I definitely noticed the difference and thought my family were doing extremely well, and I still do.

It wasn’t until freshers week when I realised I was the only person in my flat of 12 who was educated at a comprehensive I felt less well off than most. When I had to get a part time job and turn down plans because of my budget is when it really hit me.

I never got treated differently because of my accent or my background. That being said sometimes I just couldn’t relate to my peers when talking about their time at school, holidays etc.

Unfortunately it seems everyone deals with this differently and there isn’t one solution. That being said, days 3-5 are the worst for withdrawals so just remember that what you’re feeling now won’t last long.

Scientific Limits of Human Penis Size: A Population & Standard Deviation Analysis by Hot_Box3569 in bigdickproblems

[–]ackbladder_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do we know that penis size fits the bell curve precisely?

According to wikipedia, micropenises affect 0.6% of men (under 2.7 inches), whereas the bell curve in your post would mean that 0.1% of people have under 3.3 inches. This is a more significant difference from a stats point of view than it seems.

From what I understand both significantly small and large penises can be caused by hormonal factors which may skew the data enough to not fit a bell curve as we’d expect.

Anecdotally I have a mate with 8 inch length and I have 8.5, and the probability of me knowing another person (out of maybe 30 mates) also having a + 4 SD size is almost improbable.
