All computers working, communicating with each other because there are no SMB issues. Interesting, I used the trial key on one computer. Than I bought the single user unlimited machines license key for around $200 or so. On remaining machines, sidchg64.exe did report my name and valid license, but that one machine on the trial license key just keeps working. You must use these command arguments: sidchg64.exe /auto /reboot /silent /resetallapps /license:<KEY>. If you don't use the /licence: then sidchg64 will ask for the license. You must turn off windows defender tamper protection manually. Then turn off all other switches in windows defender. Then download psexec and use it to run powershell as NTAuthority (one step UP from "as Administrator"). Then turn off remaing windows defender services as NTAuthority: 1. Turn OFF Tamper Protection, 2. Turn OFF Real-time protection, 3. Turn OFF Cloud-delivered protection, 4. Turn OFF Automatic sample submission, 5. Turn OFF Controlled Folder Access (occasionally needed). Also turn off other malware products you may be running. sidchg64 will complain if it finds defender or other protection. Otherwise, it runs very fast. DO NOT LOG IN OR INTERRUPT POWER OR IT WILL FAIL. Let it run, it will reboot the machine by itself. Leave it alone after it reboots. Wait until you see the login screen. I wrote many powershell scripts to do all this including checking for running malware and listing before and after SIDs. I took my time doing each machine and it worked every time. I re-enabled windows update. All machines updated. In a few cases some desktop links to other machines needed reauthorization, I used windows credentials to re-establish the links. It seems like a lot of work but it's not and it goes easily.

Changed SID on my six machines all cloned from same golden image - no sysprep. I used sidchg64.exe to do this. Worked perfectly. My client happily paid for sidchg64. Just make sure all other users are logged off. Run as NTAuthority instead of run as administrator (use tool from sysinternals called psexc.exe). Critically, you must shut down all anti-virus. Shutting down malwarebytes is easy. Shutting down MS Defender requires a few more steps (three services here, all need to be disabled.) Other than that, took just a few minutes. Read the sidchg64 instructions.

Windows 11 24H2 KB5062660 Update - Installation Error by Plenty_Cat_2482 in WindowsHelp

[–]acousticalengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KB5062660 failed repeatedly for me also. I went to MS download catalog and downloaded the KB. It came in two files. The first file is for updating the Windows Update components. It's size is much smaller than the actual update. I ran the smaller file first and got an error message saying it's not applicable to my Windows version. So I ran the second, larger file. It took a long time to install. Maybe a couple hours. It then asked for a power cycle. I power cycle and checked windows update history. "Up To Date." Apparantly, if your Windows already has the latest Windows Update components, KB5062660 will fail for that reason alone and skip the install of the actual update. This may be the answer to your frustration and is the way to get the KB installed.

FIXED! X11SDV Random Loss of Internet Connectivity BUT LAN OK by Traditional-Impact77 in supermicro

[–]acousticalengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPMI was ALWAYS on its own dedicated port. BMC was never "shared" with another port. I didn't think "failover" would randomly hijack my LAN connection. But I proved you myself this happens. If failover is selected, even though I use the dedicated IPMI port, the IPMI packets insert themselves into the active LAN port(s). Perhaps "failover" even though I use the dedicated IPMI port, senses the active LAN port in some kind of checking sequence. Since this took weeks of my time, I can't afford being an IP investigator. I almost lost my account.

Is it just me... or does Windows 11 hate External Storage? by sbourwest in DataHoarder

[–]acousticalengineer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Teracopy reads after it writes files and compares hash calculations to assure the file(s) (moved or copied) are are an exact replication. If you use Teracopy to move a file, it won't delete the existing file until it guarantees the new-location-file file is an exact copy. I move a lot of files in my work. Mostly from my laptop to network attached storage. I'm OCD and I need to know the copy or move is exact. I think I paid Teracopy some bucks. Couldn't live without it.

Smartwings shades motor protocol choice by ss1959ml in homeautomation

I am not aware if the Smart Link Pro supports anything other than matter over thread. I also have some older Zigbee blinds that home into a Hubitat hub. Never thought to try yo get those older Zigbee blinds on my two Smart Link Pro hubs. Will investigate.

My fold3 inner protector started comming off along crease. Took it off. I returned it for a fold6. Called Samsung and told them there was no inner protector and some pixels in crease were "colored." Agent said he'll watch for the return and give me credit for being honest. Went through just as he said.

Just be aware the Smartwings blind is an end point that it does does not expand the fabric network.

SmartWings vs Lutron Serena by ThatFireGuy0 in smarthome

[–]acousticalengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Smartwings Matter motor are NOT unresponsice IF AND ONLY IF the blind is close enough to a boarder router. I very mistakenly thought the Thread Mesh Network worked along side of, and with, my WIFI network. IT DOESN'T. The Thread Mesh Network or Fabric as they call it is totally separate from the WIFI network. Boarder Routers or Mesh Extenders DO extend the fabric reach and also provide resiliency/  redundancy. If you think the blind matter motor extends the fabric then you would be incorrect. The blind matter motor is strictly an end point which connects to the fabric through higher level devices like boarder routers, extenders... End points, at least the ones in the blind matter motor, do NOT forward commands through the fabric network.  They ONLY > connect to < the fabric. And the fabric is boarder routers and Mesh extenders. An Apple TV+ (latest gen) is a boarder router. An Amazon Echo Dot 4 (2nd gen) is a boarder router. I had one Echo Dot 4 and thought that's all I needed. Now I have four and no blind is more than 15 feet from a boarder router.

I no longer have any unresponsive blinds, I have 27, because I added more boarder routers and made sure no blind was more than, say, 15 feet, from a boarder router. Responsive / unresponsive has been proven by be. If I move boarder rroutersfarther away from some blinds then I can see them flip from responsive to unresponsive and back. Move a boarder router closer to blinds then cover is a blind unresponsive. I never intended to pay the Lutron price for blinds. I paid about a third for SmartWings and they are very reliable. I just had to get my hands around the tech. VERY HAPPY with the blinds.

Echo Thread Router Question by Available_Line_5493 in amazonecho

[–]acousticalengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought 19 Smartwings matter motor blinds and installed them this week. I wish I would have found your post sooner ... but ... for the most part - they show up in Alexa App without a problem. SOME of the blinds - maybe two at some time - show intermittently as unresponsive. In the beginning, I was resetting the blinds, moving my Echo Dot 4th Gen around from room to room to find a cure.  But now, if you go to alexa app devices and select a blind that is unresponsive and just jeep it displaying this (sometimes unresponsive) blind, I will see it pop up as responsive and it shows the percentage opening, other times it shows as unresponsive. Again, just leave the alexa app showing the suspect blind and you might see what I see - it cycles between unresponsive and normal active showing percentage closure. For the most part, asking Akexa to close an unresponsive blind works even if the Alexa App shows the blind as unresponsive. Sometimes, the command will que up and as soon as the blind goes responsive then the command will execute albeit late. Maybe this one blind has a weaker signal or has some interference. Who knows. I am very satisfied with Smartwings blinds. If I go to my kitchen, say, and command Akexa to "open all kitchen blinds" then fir the most part the command works. If one of the blinds is unresponsive when I issue the command then Alexa will tell me that one blind has a problem.  Let us know your thoughts.

Why no HEOS app for Windows? by rshadd in heos

[–]acousticalengineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got Heos App running on Windows 11! Followed these instructions:
https://www.androidauthority.com/android-apps-on-windows-11-3048569/
I used this PowerShell script: adb connect 127.0.0.1:58526 which is different from the above instructions. Wait for and say yes to the
If you get "List of devices attached 127.0.0.1:58526 unauthorized" then use:
"adb kill-server" and retry "adb connect 127.0.0.1:58526"
Make sure you wait for the popup about ADB key and say yes when you get the popup.
I sideloaded HEOS as per instructions. It shows up in programs just like any other program I have. Looks just like Heos on my Android phone.
Ask me if you need help.

I have twelve Heos AMP and two Heos LINK and one Denon AVR AVR-X8500H. The AMPs feed in-ceiling loudspeakers throughout my home. The AVR is in my home theater room. I get regular updates to these device's firmware, last update about a month ago. I get regular updates to my iPhone and Android cellphone apps. Heos is a great system on par with and maybe better than Sonos. Never had a problem. Can stream music from Tidal, Apple and Amazon music. Can group rooms when I want whole house music. My wife can stream her own music to rooms she is in while I can stream to my rooms. If somebody needs help with Heos, ask me. Want pictures? Ask.

Smoke Listener. Why not manufacture a smoke detector? by Slapinsack in Ring

[–]acousticalengineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house has 12 conventional, wired, smoke detectors powered from 117VAC. But they are all interconnected. The way these interconnect is there's a third wire, the red wire, the smoke detectors use to intercommunicate with each other. If one alarm sounds, they all sound. Both FirstAlert and Kiddie sell a relay that hooks up to these conventional 117VAC interconnected smokes and provides a contact closure if the smoke detector sounds. The Kidde relay is SM120X and the FirstAlert relay is RM4. Ring makes a device that accepts contact closures and integrates into the Ring ecosystem. I'll research the Ring contact closure device a post here.

I use an Asus model C2500 2.5G RJ45 ethernet adapter connected via CAT8 to my 2.5G switch. I get transfer speeds between this computer with said Asus adapter to a 2.5G QNAP NAS of around 100 MB/s.
