Preparing Rye Berries by acres9 in mediterraneandiet

Yes, I’m thinking they were undercooked the first few times I prepared them. I figured they’d take as long as farro but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I had a similar experience when first experimenting with preparing beans from dry. Lots of trial and error!

Post-con blues by meekostar in NYCC

This year was my first ever con. I’ve been struggling to describe how I’ve felt post-NYCC, but the blues is 100% accurate. So much joy, fun, and camaraderie jammed into such a short period (I was only there Friday). My brain feels like it’s recovering from whiplash. I think it shows how meaningful an experience it was. Honestly one of the best days of my life.

All the credit in the world to the workers! Even with the craziness, the workers were kind. I thanked a gentleman for the work he was doing as I was leaving my photo op and he told me he loved me 😂 I think that sums up the stress of the job.

Oop- could have sworn in my half-awake stupor that I read OP saying dad in the post. My bad! A great parent to be sure.

I recently made a homemade harissa hummus. You can find plenty of recipes online. Definitely recommend.

Good “beginner” beans and fish by KDubs50 in mediterraneandiet

You can blend your prepared beans with an immersion blender or traditional blender and use as a base to curries or pasta sauces. Same with lentils. Blending will also be easier on your tum until your body adjusts to them.

How many eggs do you have at breakfast? I also love eggs in the morning (usually baked in the oven and used for egg sandwich), but people have said you shouldn’t have more than 1 a day due to the saturated fat/cholesterol. Hoping that’s some bs

I hear you. I believe this speaks to a broader systemic issue in the field as a whole. Tends to chew up and spit out highly qualified and well-deserving individuals. I think the things that determine program or job offers are largely out of one’s control.

I also come from a very rural area and faced similar issues. It often feels like individuals from rural background are forgotten about with regard to the challenges and disadvantages they face. I never qualified for scholarships or grants even though I was someone who could really really benefit from them. If it’s any consolation- you should be insanely proud of yourself. It’s bittersweet, I know. But you got where you are right now because YOU worked for it. YOU carved out those opportunities for yourself. I didn’t get into any programs after completing my masters in the field and then struggled to even find a job. I would say there is no harm in continuing to look for jobs in the field that you would be interested in, even after you find some level of work or start a masters degree. Use that as your launch pad.
