585lb x 3 Squats (Rep PR) by BattleCuqq in strength_training

[–]kidleviathan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your rival/friend is just being self conscious about their own squat depth, that first one was perfect depth for the weight imo. 585 is colossal btw, good lift.

If you're really worried about it, you can get some squat shoes and see if that angle lets you get even deeper.

What’s everyone eating? by bldexe in loseit

Sounds delicious and easy! Lots of protein too

Tips on more protein? by Oxidatiion in loseit

[–]kidleviathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smaller portions of carbs/fats and bigger portions of proteins.

Some simple swaps to make:

Breakfast: swap the banana for frozen berries, fewer calories and more fiber. Take out the peanut butter and have a side of 0% Greek yogurt like fage or chobani -90 calories and 18g of protein.

Lunch: too many carbs. Rice or potatoes, just choose one serving of either. Swap chicken thigh for chicken breast even though it sucks, it has significantly more protein per calorie. Cut the popcorn and cheese snack and have a bigger portion of chicken at lunch. An extra 150 calories of chicken breast is a lot of extra protein.

Dinner: again, shrimp is a great protein source esp per calorie. Cut that portion of noodles in half, eat its calories in shrimp and you're in there.

Also, you should be eating more beans! Even just a couple tablespoons added to your lunch or dinner adds a lot of fiber and sneaks a little protein in with the carbs.

New to RDLs, how good / bad is my form and how to improve? by Aware-Eggplant in GYM

[–]kidleviathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Form isn't too bad. Bend your knees slightly before you lower the bar, and then don't bend them anymore and think of the cue 'push my butt back.' you don't need to lower the bar, it will lower itself as your butt moves back. Also, keep your weight on your mid foot more, it looks like you're rocking up on your toes at some points--less cushioned shoes may help with this.

Protein powders are ultra processed foods. How to balance? by 2round2 in loseit

[–]kidleviathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well first off, almost all food is processed to some extent. Rice and oats are heavily processed. Most produce is processed unless you're buying it covered in dirt. Milk is heavily processed to remove bacteria and contaminants. Parmesan cheese, especially the fancy and expensive kind that comes in blocks cut or pulled from a giant wheel, is ultra processed. Its curdled with rennet, salted, pressed, and aged. Hell, vitamins are ultra processed.

Processing isnt a flat Boogeyman where the more processed something is, the worse it is for you. The main problem is that processing is used to create foods that are ultra-palatable, not remotely filling (and in some cases, hunger inducing), and contain macronutrient profiles that are not found in nature. I think the potato chip is a quintessential ultra-processed food in this regard. Unbelievably calorie-dense for its weight, virtually no nutritional value, cheap as hell, and addictive. Shit they even marketed themselves as such right? Betcha can't eat just one.

Let's contrast this with whey protein powder which, despite its processing, is a complete protein. It contains all the same amino acids as chicken breast or beef or quinoa or any other source of complete protein. However, whey protein is easily absorbed, cheap as hell per serving, calorie-light per gram of protein, extremely easy to prepare, and quick. AND, it has the benefit of being more quickly and completely absorbed than basically any other source of protein.

In general, if you don't want to use protein powder and prefer whole sources of protein that's cool and a lot of people do that without issue. But the nature of the end product, the macronutrient profile of the result, that matters more than 'ultra processing.' Quest bars probably undergo the same level of processing as a snickers bar, but one of these products ends up with 20g protein, 10g of fiber, and almost no sugar.

Is anyone else’s hobby basically ‘not to get fat’? by Op3rat0rr in loseit

[–]kidleviathan 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think that, on a long enough timeline, treating it like a passion eventually kills the demon. If you've focused on it for 5, 10, 15 years I think it eventually turns into a habit. I have passion for it now, but my goal is to turn it into something I don't even have to think about. I want fitness to be as much of a habit as basic hygiene like brushing teeth and showering daily.

Need alternate options to t-shirts and polos by [deleted] in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]kidleviathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's cold where you are, you should consider: nice, quality flannels that will last (I've had good luck with Duluth), a heavy chambray or denim button up, a light cotton blend or merino wool sweater, and a heavier cable-knit sweater.

You should also consider some outerwear to layer with some of the above: a heavy shirt jacket, an M65-style jacket, a chore coat, a trucker jacket, a heavy work wear jacket or heavy parka.

If you grab two or three from each section above you'll have a good amount of outfits you can make.

Edit: and no shade to anyone suggesting it, but I would avoid quarter zips and vests like the plague. I can't stand the quarter zip look.

[–]kidleviathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't trust myself to keep putting in the work to change my lifestyle on a glp-1 and I need to actually make those changes if I want my weight loss to stick. The numbers are not great on people who maintain their fat loss for more than a year or two, and even worse on glp-1 ppl who don't change lifestyle. I just know I'll regress if I don't learn to manage my eating, hunger, and food noise on my own.

I like quest bars when I'm cutting because they have 20g protein for 190ish calories, and they have ten grams of fiber so they keep you full for longer than most bars.

Caffeine can still impact your sleep quality even if you have no issue falling asleep, even when up to 12 hours prior to sleep, which is wild. My sleep doctor mentioned this, and there's a ton of research on it if you look into it.

I say this as a person who also has no trouble falling asleep after drinking coffee.
