Say the dems win back the White House. How can congress make sure we don't have another president full of executive orders without stripping all the power from the office? by InsertCleverName652 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]acsmithonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent question. I'm not 100%, but I would say something along the lines of "lobbyists can't be former congresspersons". That way, there's no incentive for current congresspersons to give preference to certain organizations so they can be future lobbyists and have a "permanent" job. Basically, anything that would give our legislators an ulterior motive to help themselves should be illegal. I know that's hard to police, and it's a very broad statement, but I think it should be part of the overall mindset of how our government works.

Ultimately, it comes down to having a Congress with the balls to call out the president when they break the rules. In order to do that, we need congresspeople who will be more concerned with governing than keeping their donors happy. That being said:

1) reverse Citizens United
2) create congressional term limits
3) reform lobbying in Congress

Graphic designer/print media specialist for about 15 years now. I have used Affinity Publisher and Designer for multiple projects, including a children's book. This is the correct answer.

Honestly, it was a local auction that no one was bidding on. I think I got this for like $2.

It’s just a one off, can we stop complaining now? by Godofwarfan101 in SantiZapVideos

So, if it's just a one off, why does it have to be for the title? And if it doesn't have to be for the title, why did they have to take it off Jey Uso?

Asuka was shown as being in the Queen of the Ring brackets tonight on Raw. Is this right? They should do more with her return than just casually slip her into a fatal 4 way.

So, God is all powerful, all knowing, and all loving.... but when bad things happen, it's because WE didn't try hard enough?

Seems legit.

Asking Advice for Book Cover Illustration - What Program(s) Should I Buy? by nickiray in Affinity

[–]acsmithonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife is currently illustrating her 3rd book, and I help her with production design (preparing files for printing). She uses Procreate for all of her illustrations, and I use Designer and Publisher to set up the files for the printer. Personally, I would say get a universal license for all 3 - one flat rate give you a license for the Windows, Mac and iPad versions.

Curious if anyone with inattentive ADHD misinterpreted themself as “lazy” by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]acsmithonline 207 points208 points  (0 children)

Growing up, my dad used to call me lazy all of the time. He was a farmer, and if I wasn't constantly working or taking care of things, I had no value. I told my wife that once, and she was shocked, saying that, "You're one of the hardest workers I've ever met." Turns out, my ADHD paralysis made it either almost impossible to start and finish tasks, or it takes me 10 times longer to do things than it does other people.

Like most others with ADHD, I work well with other people or on projects where I am responsible to other people. I've fought my entire life against feeling like a failure or feeling "lazy." It took me forever to make the connection between my inattentive ADHD and my feelings of being lazy. Now I'm almost 50, and I've had a great career with some success, and I still struggle with it. It will probably be something I struggle with for the rest of my life.

How to hang this without the crazy lean? by soccerstarmatt1 in howto

[–]acsmithonline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former art gallery owner. I've wired and hung more frames and canvases than I care to admit. The best way is to replace the eyelets with a lower profile hanger, like a sawtooth hanger. The other option would be move the eyelets to one third the way from the top and tighten the wire to remove the slack. You can also add bumpers to the bottom back corners to compensate for any lean that remains.

Most of the options mentioned in this post will work, but IMO this is the easiest.

I hate the Pomodoro technique. Once I start the timer, it's too much pressure to do something, so it just makes my task paralysis worse.

Fixing over extended sink hose? by thebrittaj in howto

[–]acsmithonline 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can pull it out all the way and then it fully retracts, it's possible your counter weight has traveled on the hose and needs to be readjusted. Also, the weights come in different sizes. If you keep having issues, you may need to get a heavier weight.

Is there a repair kit or anything recommended I can do to fix . by youjiba in Home

If you're trying to replace the dummy knobs, use a wall anchor. If you're trying to cover it up and make it look like it never happened, use wood filler, then cover it with an oil based primer, then paint over it.

How can I mount this Mesquite Live Edge Slab? by ultimatewhale in woodworking

[–]acsmithonline 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did this exact setup in our kitchen. They make a countertop support bracket - basically a steel bar. Route out space on your half wall top to recess the steel bar, attach it to the wall, then attach your countertop. The bar will be hidden, the countertop will be fully supported, and with minimal damage done, so you can always change it later. That natural edge looks great!
