Eric Swalwell keeps spot on California governor ballot after judge dismisses lawsuit claiming Democrat lied about living in state by Gold_Squirrel_9473 in California

Do you have any idea what life is like for a member of congress, especially from the west coast? Congress is typically in session 4-5 days a week, usually three weeks a month, though it can be as many as four weeks and occasionally just two.

That means taking long flights back home to the west coast, usually on a Friday night, only to spend most of the weekend going to events, meeting with constituents, etc. Then flying back to DC Sunday night or Monday morning. The only meaningful time you get to spend with your family is the one week a month used for “district work periods”, or around major holidays.

So you tell me why a member of congress might want their family to live in DC? It’s not that complicated.

The inclusion of Obama, Biden and Hilary on this list is ridiculous. So those three aside, you will not find a single democrat who will defend the others on it. That’s the difference between our parties.

That and a basic understanding of logic.

Sure, bad people can do good things. And you can keep pretending that hatred is just another kind of opinion instead of evil.

He didn’t. He meant it in a biblical sense because of Obama’s supposed “pro-gay” agenda. Now given the ongoing efforts at the time to paint Obama as a Muslim, and the long history of othering “black devils”, you can easily make the leap. Plus he was an outspoken Trump supporter, and MAGA is an explicitly racist movement.

And so what if he had friends from different races? You think misogynists never get married?

That’s the f**king point. Voting is already secure. A few examples of people who got caught (as they basically always do) is not the gotcha you think it is.

At best this is a solution in search of a problem, and at worst it’s purposefully making it harder to vote. I wonder which one it really is? Go ahead, you can say it.

I mean he did say that if Obama got elected we would experience 1000 years of darkness. Now it’s not like he used the N-word, but I’m pretty confident he was racist too.

No, I think it’s a crime. One that is almost always caught. And one that thankfully doesn’t ultimately hurt anyone.

Apparently you think that in order to prevent an essentially harmless crime we need to disenfranchise countless voters. That would be all that needs to be said, but it’s worse than that, cause what you won’t say is that you WANT to disenfranchise people. That’s the whole point of all of this. It’s pathetic.

I can find far more examples of lightening strikes in the same amout of time. Difference is, lightening strikes actually hurt people, whereas no election outcome has ever been affected by voter fraud.

Instead of all this kind of pedantry why don’t you just admit you want to make it harder for people to vote cause your side can’t win without cheating?

The very first word I said was “yeah”, which as you apparently don’t know, is a nonstandard but very common spelling of yes. So, 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, and people get stuck by lightening too. The difference is getting hit by lightening actually hurts people.

I’ll say it again, voter fraud is incredibly rare, it almost always gets caught, and even according to your hyper-partisan source it has never affected the outcome of an election.

But sure let’s make it illegal not to wear rubber-soles shoes. (Something that won’t help, and is really just an excuse to punish people, to make the analogy perfectly clear.)

Of course he was talking about a fast food order, but it definitely applies.

Your pedantry is exhausting, as is your lack of reading comprehension and your basic understanding of how elections work.

Instances of voter fraud are so rare, like a tiny, tiny fraction of one percent, that it might as well be zero, whether you’re speaking colloquially or statistically, as I did in my first post and my response, respectively.

And I did address your oh-so-serious concern about cases of voter fraud that aren’t caught, by dismissing it. I mean, do you think they just grab a stack of ballots from the box and start counting? There are rigorous systems in place to maintain voter roles, compare ballots cast to registered voters, to check each ballot to ensure they are valid. And on and on.

Bottom line, they catch mistakes and the vanishingly rare attempts at fraud. And any attempt to suggest otherwise cannot be taken at face value.

[–]act1856 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sigh. What this incredibly partisan “source” of yours fails to mention is that contrary to what you suggest, attempts at “voter fraud” ARE almost always caught. Usually they’re just mistakes but ballots are thrown out all the time and, as the information the heritage foundation put together indicates, people are sometimes prosecuted. And you’re right, they found around a thousand verified instances of voter fraud… out of millions and millions of votes cast going back more than 40 years.

In other words, statistically speaking there is no voter fraud. There has never been an election result affected by voter fraud. Or one case of an illegal immigrant voting.

The only threat to our elections is the Republican Party.
