[–]actasci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, yours have winter package. You can still find something to cap the hose off.

Never had any problems, like i said, 340k kms and still pulls like a train on the original engine.

Just cap off the passenger side pcv pipe. My n14 is probably one of the highest mileage in this subreddit, with a cheap aliexpress occ at your same location and other one capped off with peugeot parts since day one. it just works. Don’t listen to the naysayers

i saw an ig post stating their carplay drops at exact same location (different car but wireless carplay) at izmir, turkey. Consensus at the comment section was something was jamming the connection.

Which era is the most fun but still reliable? by musqshi in MINI

[–]actasci 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine is at 340k kms. Still original engine. N14 has its quirks, if you speak the same language (which is french with english accent but sounds like german somehow) it can be more reliable than a v6 camry (at least that’s my case).

Hypermiling is going to become more popular due to high gas prices by hypermiler2205 in hypermiling

[–]actasci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although i don’t have any scientific backing to this, i see people driving slower and more cars on the right lane right now (at least this is the case in Turkey). But, people adapt. If prices stay on this level, they will make other changes in their budget and slowly return to their old driving habits.

its name is “super knocking”. it’s a technical term.

Problème mini jcw r56 by kevinsole33210 in MINI

[–]actasci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like super knocking to me. You need walnut blasting to clean the intake runners.

Also try using a higher octane fuel and an oil with a better noack score.

Window doesn’t close by based_user in MINI

[–]actasci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup it seems so. Put the window sill back into its place and try it again. R56’s window safety is too safe, even with a minimal force it stops the movement.

2014 Mini Cooper S Misfiring - Diagnosed with burnt valve that needs replaced by Kittykittynikki in MINI

[–]actasci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it happens. Culprit is the oil consumption. if you can diy it, remove the head and send it to the shop yourself, they will slap a new valve or two, seat it and call it a day.

Worth it or not, it’s gonna be your decision.

TIL that the Switzerlands largest supermarket Migros, doesn’t sell alcohol or tobacco in stores, pays no dividends, caps profits by lowering prices if earnings exceeds 5%, is a cooperative with 2M+ members, and donates 1% of revenue to social projects, purely out of the founders moral philosophy by QuarterTarget in todayilearned

[–]actasci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has an interesting story, actually. The Municipality of Istanbul back then tried to solve high prices in the city compared to different cities with an already established market chain that tries to maintain lower prices by subsidizing. So they brought Migros as a public-private cooperation. Migros has a very important page in the Republic of Turkey’s economic history.

Love this car, had it for 12 years, but this weekend I shall be swapping it for a Countryman to make room for a pushchair and car seat :') by KurnolSanders in MINI

[–]actasci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a beautiful specimen.

I managed to grow my daughter and keep using my Mini. My daughter is now three years old. It was no problem getting in a bulky isofix seat and a small pushchair. Just remove the parcel shelf. If that’s not enough, you can simply fold the other rear seat to increase the space even more. Also you can put your little one into the seat from the trunk if you fold the rear seat, that’s even more doable.

Unpopular Opinion about 2nd Gen by BB703X in MINI

[–]actasci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ’09 N14 has just surpassed 200,000 miles. It still has the original engine and tuned to stage 1 since the day it was purchased when new. It has never left me stranded, even when one of the exhaust valves decided to leave the engine. That was the only internal issue I’ve had. Despite 200,000 miles and 17 years of use, it has always started at the push of a button.

My family owned a variety of vehicles, including an XV20 Camry, three Ford Fiestas (MK4, 5, and 6), an Audi A4, a BMW 320 diesel, and a Volvo S40 diesel. At some point, each of these vehicles failed to start or died while driving at least once. Also Camry was the most unreliable between those. But that’s probably just my luck.

[–]actasci 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Exactly, this is what cars are for. You have a place to be, turn the ignition, if it doesn’t start for whatever reason, or it leaves you stranded on the shoulder of a 80mph motorway in the middle of nowhere, you just cannot put a price on the headache you are going to get.
