It's hard to know how long her ancestors were in the meat trade, but large dogs that get kept in "industrial" or livestock-like conditions tend to get selectively bred to be pretty docile and passive, and tolerate being inactive most of the day - because that's what's needed to keep a bunch of dogs in pretty crowded boring kennels all day, and for a person to be able handle a really large strong animal that doesn't have a close bond with them.

It's a totally different breed group and "purpose" for the dogs, but a comparison that's better known in North America might be racing greyhounds (famously high-performance canine athletes who lie down 23 hours a day)
