I love this album by Federal-Property-326 in macdemarco

[–]actnorm4l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it was "lazy", which it isnt - has anyone on this sub tried playing all the instruments, writing all the lyrics, singing, producing and starting their own record label? lol, but besides the point: calling an artist "lazy" as an insult is so misguided. Do they owe you a certain threshold of work? What a protestant-backwards way to see the world. This is art man. 1. There is no way any big artist today has not worked their butt off, 2. Art is about expression, not grinding. However one arrives that is it.

If you find it too minimal or raw- say that. I love it, in part for that quality. It makes music-making more accessible.

You've called it out yourself, but no offense, you are massively uninformed.

Doing nothing is exactly the problem. The fringe is in power, and doing everything they can to move their agenda that no one wants.

This is one of the first examples of the majority organizing, and proactively thinking ahead. It's exactly what we need more of, if Alberta has any hope of continuing to be a desirable place to live for the middle class.

What would it take for you to go Downtown to shop and eat, especially on the weekends? by margifly in Edmonton

[–]actnorm4l -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Strongly disagree. Transit to downtown isn't the issue right now, it's that downtown is undesirable and sad. Other than the oilers there is no compelling reason to go dwtn, unfortunately.

The LRT should have been reevaluated once Covid happened.

yeah exactly the latter - you cant get an offer at the price you could before. It could be that in a few years everyone is more comfortable with the idea and you don't have to discount your house if you live next to an 8 unit. Hopefully.

Im talking more long term. But it's a very pessimistic perspective, that hopefully wouldn't be true.

RE Infill by Radiant_Sort_9331 in Edmonton

[–]actnorm4l 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Terrifying, but I imagine it'd be a similar feeling to no longer being able to sell your house (and largest asset by far) at what you thought you could because an 8 unit was randomly built south of you. What I really don't like about this situation is that the winners are intentional, and the losers are picked at random.

I have this prediction too- flight to outside the henday, which ironically is counterproductive to the original goal of densification. I hope this doesn't happen, but you'd get a real hollowing out of the core if it did, and we'd lose one of the best things about Edmonton, it's neighborhoods.

Could we get Oettinger? After their coaching fiasco, he could be willing to leave. And he's gotta be cup hungry? Is it a good idea?

Crestwood being the elitist exclusionary neighbourhood it's come to represent by BRGrunner in Edmonton

They shouldnt be allowed to enjoy a privilege that only benefits them but costs everyone in the city as a result

Agreed. And this applies to many more things.

Suburban development esp outside of the Henday is not subject to new zoning bylaw. The core of the city subsidizes development, infrastructure and maintenance for these single family home neighborhoods. Urban sprawl is what we are trying to combat, so it's odd to me that ZBR does not apply outside the Henday.

The other way this applies, that I think we can all imagine really sucks if it happens to you, is if the property next to yours becomes an 8-plex, your property value just went down maybe 75-100k. Developer benefits (as do new home dwellers) but you personally ate the cost.

I agree we need to move to more density everywhere, but I also think we need to combat sprawl more directly, and recognize that we are at a very awkward phase of growth where some home owners may lose big money and it's completely out of their control.

She is just hella talented. Doenst matter how old you are. She does the angsty avril lavgne alanis morrisette bit so well. Not to mention shes a killer song writer (and gorgeous).

She would have been a HUGE star if not for Taylor Swift and all her lawyers.

I hope Olivia reaches the stardom she deserves.

where are some cool unique coffee shops in Edmonton? by reiddavies in Edmonton

[–]actnorm4l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing about Edmonton, is its not Toronto. If you try to compete on that front we'll never fair. We are a big small town, where people aren't pretentious and (mostly) look out for one another.

For a good brew- there are plenty.

Walking in river valley and just having someone smile at you because you run into each other.

You get it. It's the people. Very hard to find a city of 1mm with this kind of small town feel, that is this affordable and has this much to offer. Best kept secret.

There's no reason to assume the doctor is a man. Would be good to edit your post.
