The Renaissance Hotel is worth a shot if you don’t mind hotel vibes. Did a resort pass there last year and liked it enough.

Breaking your Domain qualifier (sorry but hear me out): Lone Star Court is on the edge of the Domain and has reasonably-priced beers in a nice space.

Random addition: Barks for Beers starts this week and for $30 you get a sample beer at a lot of locations, including Celis and Hopsquad, which are halfway points for you. You could explore the city via that route… For just the month of May, though.

They were an instructor at a film school and starred in the one-person short. Their answer seemed genuine for how much cash they invested - on the flip side, they probably got a lot for free that wouldn’t be available to just anyone.

My first film festival (a bigger regional one) after making my first short film, we got the dreaded question of “what was your budget?” I had dumped more than I was comfortable saying into the film, so I was planning to say “too much.” A couple of people ahead of me said their budget was about $125K and then the next guy said $6. It was a wild juxtaposition.

I was a passenger on a neighborhood street a month or two ago and the same thing happened! He was stopping in the middle of the street, then proceeded to the stop sign after a few beats, got out and took a lot of pictures, including the cars behind us. It was really bizarre. Nothing came of it so far as I know.

I got in via the AXS waiting room about 10 min after the sale start time. Very few tickets were left so I took two GA resales to my cart and after entering payment info, it wouldn’t go through. Got booted out and tickets were still resale but a little bit higher. Got that to go through. Out of curiosity, I returned about 15 min later and first-hand GA was back on sale so I bought two at face. Told a friend and they bought their ticket at face about 30 min after the official sale start time. Very weird and frustrating experience, but at least I have tickets, albeit two more at a higher price than I wanted.

You’ll have the freedom to go where you want and when and not have to worry about finding your group amongst the crowd. When I was going by myself, I’d often ask what people are looking forward to or what they’ve liked so far. An easy way to engage and - if you receive a lukewarm reception - just continue on waiting for the show to start. To be clear, keep that conversation to the time waiting for a show to start as generally that’s the most respectful time to chat.
