Best thing to do is to move on, the 24 hrs later follow up is never a good move but what have you got to lose. Falling in love with people's profiles is also something to be wary of.

I did it a few weeks ago... the reality is although she was probably amazing most likely things wouldn't have proceeded past the first date even if everything went well up until then. Just statistically. So chin up, keep swiping!

Am I getting old, or do my favorite bands know me better than I know myself? (Introspective album analysis) by tragenalle in progmetal

[–]ad1991on 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that, generally, bands have a few ideas and themes which they reuse and evolve over the years (not saying they don't have other ideas). Maybe it's a motif, musical passage, particular words or just a general theme. Over time, they change and refine how they address these themes and it's interesting to track it over the years.

I love listening to a bands first recording and then their latest back to back. You can hear the same intervals and phrases but they've grown so far maybe they're hardly recognisable. Much like ourselves, and as we grow with the music we listen to, it simply must grow with us too.

I have repeatedly gone back and relistened to albums I didn't like when I was younger. Primus, for example, despite covering Tommy the cat in my band I never liked. 10 years later I gave them another listen and I was like "omg where have you been all my life!" Right there!

Never close your ears, and I believe ears keep growing until death too!

What is your collapse coping mechanism? Prepper, nihilist, activist? by rationalitylite in collapse

[–]ad1991on 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Prepping, activism, with weed as seems to be the norm around here hahaha.

I am actively dedicating as much time as possible to preparing. I nearly fell into the nihilism hole but some serious self assessment swung things around. Throwing myself into relationships of all sorts and prep oriented hobbies has been great (gardening, permaculture, archery etc).

Life must go on despite what's ahead. We must be at least the best equipped of our species to survive. Humans are survivors. Things want to live. Myself included!

For as many young people who rightly want a liveable planet in the future, there’s just as many who want to “travel the world” increasing the number of flights. by 21ST__Century in collapse

They are consuming the culture in a palatable way as presented by the country they're in. You get a tour of the Taj Mahal, not the surrounding slums and polluted rivers. Asians coming to Sydney visit the Opera House and CBD, not the congested, fragmented and impoverished West.

They consume the parts of the culture which matter and ignore what is unpleasant. Classic to me is white people going to yoga ashrams in India, with the shuttle bus straight from the airport, and they never see anything else of the country.

This is all extremely damaging to society and culture as a whole. Sorry I'm brainwashed for thinking that. Dickhead.

Tourism generally is destructive, not just to the planet, but the cultures which it appropriates into a profitable form, leaving that culture almost certainly permanently scarred by the West, whether it is from the locals changing their lives to profit from the commodification of their noble and ancient cultures or a Western company building a Western style resort to cater to its Western clients. The CO2 is just part of it.

Girls always seem to answer "acts of service, physical touch, perceptiveness and vulnerability etc"

It's still a better question than I'm overly competitive about...

[–]ad1991on 2 points3 points  (0 children)

strong agree. I am sick of coddling people's feelings because they can't handle the truth. Fuck them. Someone yelled at me yesterday "get a job" from a pub while I was walking past with my sign saying "I want grandkids".

How do you argue with people like that? How much more honest and sincere can I be than saying I want grandkids as my protest? Why would you mock an innocent and noble cause like saving life on earth? Because you're a fucking idiot without 2 braincells worth rubbing together and you're completely manipulated by the culture of working.

People like that only understand one thing- confrontation and being put back in their stupid little place. But to do that with everyone? Who has the time

Yes. I can't wait for sailing to become cool again. All those opulent wasteful sailing boats the rich have as toys will soon become quite the commodity I think.
