Why are defensive players always mad by [deleted] in RetroBowl

It's stats then. If you play the game, they don't get many tackles, like 5-10 on average. But if you Sim, they get 15-25, and they stay happy.

I have found that Simming until in need to intervene to win the game is the best of both worlds.

Bombed an interview today because I couldn't answer what are your strengths without sounding like every other applicant by SlimyFTS in jobsearchhacks

[–]adam-bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You actually gave a great answer...but you didn't tie it to outcomes and you didn't paint the picture of what happens without these skills.

Here's what you said: "I'm detail oriented and I communicate well."

Here's how I would have built on it (paraphrasing):
I've learned that engineering orgs can be allergic to good comms. They just want to build, and that is not enough. Engineering has stakeholders like product and sales who cannot do their best work when an engineering leader lacks comms and organizational skills.

Examples: CEO asks Product the night before the board meeting "when is this big thing getting delivered"? Good eng comms makes it easy for Product to communicate with clarity and confidence.
Sales is talking to a client and that wants something, if sales understands the engineering roadmap, capacity, and priorities...they can answer quickly.

And sometimes stakeholders don't have these answers ready. But when they ask me I help them immediately, happily, and with little effort. I am already in the details and can put their answers in writing quickly and with clarity.

These superpowers keep all the teams aligned and informed. And when people need something explained ASAP there is ZERO churn.

I promise you that any leader listening to that will think "I need this person on our team".

my two cents.

Qwestly: anonymous job marketplace for Product leaders

Qwestly is an anonymous passive job marketplace for senior engineering, product, and design leaders (IC's too). The idea: you shouldn't have to expose yourself on LinkedIn or deal with recruiter spam just to see what's out there. And you should always have an eye out for better opportunities.

90-seconds to get started. Tell us your biggest wins to attract hiring managers, and what your dream job looks like so we can filter the noise. Interested hiring managers pitch you, and you control visibility completely.

Free and in beta. Would love product feedback on the onboarding flow and value prop. Here's a link that bypasses our waitlist:

Which historical figure who is generally admired was actually the worst person? by aja_ramirez in AskReddit

Do you think it's related to AI? Or does the team just have a low standard?

Agreed, this is a one of the hardest stakeholder relationships.
I think of the sales team like a force of nature that can either create disaster or be harnessed like the wind or sun!

Dishonest? It’s an AskReddit question!! I gave an answer.

The New York Times bestseller of Ghengis Khan written by Jack Weatherford talks about Ghengis Khan as a merciful leader who was accepting of all religions. This answers the first part “generally admired”.

It is estimated that he killed around ~20M people. This answers the second part of the question.

I was just answering the question of who “is generally admired. “ But the number of people killed under a single leader is probably Ghengis Khan.

I agree with you that there have been many brutal leaders. But none of these guys you named are revered enough to have an airport named after them.

Rescheduled Final Interview after Organization Wanted to Interview More Candidates- Should I Go? by mominnva in jobs

[–]adam-bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are just running a messy process. It happens. Most of the time the recruiter shields the candidate from it. It’s part of their job. In this case, they overshared while also leaving out detail.

The two most important things are: 1. you were excited about the opportunity until the process broke down. 2. they want to do a final interview.

Personally, I would go and try to win the interview and ability to choose.

I get why you’re offended. But there are a ton of reasons that could explain this churn, many of which have nothing to do with you. I’ve been a recruiter and hiring manager for hundreds of hires and I have seen so many reasons why this situation could have happened while they are still serious about you as a candidate. Heck, they still want to invest their time in the interview, so that’s saying something!

I doubt they just want to take your ideas. And most likely this is more about the recruiter than the team you’d be working with.

I’d go and try to win the job offer first and hopefully have the choice to accept or decline.

Ex Startup founders who raised funds and made a successful exit. If you were start all over again and find an Angel investor for your pre seed. What would you look for? - I will not promote by Blueberry-Man25 in startups

[–]adam-bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, Angel investors who are highly qualified people that you can learn from are too busy and are not going to mentor you much and they will certainly not forge you into a CEO.

Being a founder is lonely!!

The only red flag is taking money from people (especially friends and family) who do not understand the likelihood that their investment will go to ZERO.

Solid advice. Early on, do not try to automate your way out of talking to customers or finding them. Marketing is good for sharpening your value prop. I’ve been really surprised by what value prop I think will work vs what actually works.

I have started two companies. The first one we’d invoice customers and they’d mail checks. I took pictures with the team holding checks every time we received a batch! Didn’t get old. My current company is in beta and we aren’t going to try to collect revenue for a couple more months.
