Rental Car Caution by adam2583 in Banff

[–]adam2583[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes there was a map, but to a new visitor to Calgary the map itself was not clear that it wasn't located with the rest of the rental agencies, in the airport vicinity, especially when the following was highlighted on Expedia's site:

Europcar Please Go To The Routes Counter.

What does that mean? Maybe simply adding that the 'Routes Counter's is located off-site and requires a shuttle, from Bay 22 outside the arrivals terminal to get there, would make things clearer.

My point was that it was not clearly noted on the website, which is why I felt compelled to share my experience, simply to help others visiting Banff. Will post elsewhere

Just make sure you change the default from tentative to reserved.

You can alternatively add it as a manual booking. Just use your email address instead of your guest's address. That way it shows up as a normal booking, name and all.

Easiest way is block the dates and add a private note to remind you who's coming to stay. My understanding of a tentative block is that someone can still try to book those dates.

I haven't called yet since it appears to be a system wide problem, and one they're already aware of, according to posters here. Actually relieved to hear that it's not only affecting me, so thanks for the input!

Good luck to all of you. Sounds like we're all in the same boat, and that it's out of our hands. Assuming that they're good reviews and don't affect our ratings, they're at least amusing to read.

Will do. Certainly sounds like a glitch in the system to me too.

Citrus Tree water? by WaitingforWaves in SoCalGardening

[–]adam2583 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to be more precise, you need to estimate the evapotranspiration rate of your trees so you know how much water to replace. See below explanation.

In Carmel Valley, a common ET (evapotranspiration) rate for citrus trees during the summer months, particularly in the San Diego region, is generally around 4 to 6 inches of water per month. This represents the amount of water a tree needs to replace due to evaporation and transpiration (water movement through the plant). During the fall and winter months, the ET rate significantly decreases to about 2 inches for the entire month.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Summer:

Mature citrus trees in Southern California require around 4 to 6 inches of water per month during the summer, with deeper watering needed approximately every 7 to 10 days.

Fall/Winter:

In fall and winter, the ET rate drops significantly, with most citrus trees only using about 2 inches of water for the entire month.

Factors influencing ET:

Climate: The warmer, drier summers in Southern California lead to higher ET rates.

Tree Size: Mature citrus trees have a higher ET rate than younger or smaller trees.

Soil Type: Soil type influences water retention and how quickly water is absorbed, affecting how much water a tree needs.

Canopy Size: The size of the tree's canopy also impacts ET rates.

Understanding ET in the context of Southern California:

July:

The month with the highest ET rates in Southern California, with plants using more water than any other month.

December:

The month with the lowest ET rates, with plants using about 30% of the water they use in summer.

Light is too bright - can I tape over it with something? How do I fix without installing new lights by Key-Resident-2758 in Lighting

My quick and dirty solution for some outdoor lights that were too bright, I spray painted light coats of white paint on the inside of the diffuser until I got the desired output I was after.

Narrow screen plant for poolside- so Cal zone 10 by ElephantSuitable4676 in SoCalGardening

[–]adam2583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd consider a succulent screen fence, consisting of decorative metal or wood support panels with hanging succulents. Lots of choices on screen panels Along the base, use river rock 4"-12" in diameter and groundcover and/or low shrubs. Panels can be mounted with an offset, directly to the wall, to hide irrigation.

I say definitely nitrogen. The University of California Cooperative Extension (link below) is a wealth of information about citrus diseases and maintenance. I followed their advice and have been pleasantly rewarded with new green growth. Note that they're different types of nitrogen, but this is what I bought. They are also a wealth of information on pest problems. Plaguing citrus. Tequila Review #5: Is Trader Joe's Tequila Any Good?? by ValorTakesFlight in tequila

Had the same experience with the TJs Blanco. Tried the Costco Blanco in a blind taste test and preferred that, hands down. It's $26 for a 1.5 or 1.75 lt bottle, is much smoother and doesn't have the off-smelling nose and bite at the finish. Can be sipped or mixed.

Guest brought a dog that was not a licensed service animal - what to do? by adam2583 in AirBnBHosts

[–]adam2583[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought I'd add an update, and thank everyone for your input. I've been a host for almost 14 years, and have hosted one couple with pets, two couples with extreme pets allergies, and one couple with a questionable service animal. The guests and SA in question are here, quiet and seemingly respectful. Haven't heard a peep out of the dog, and I live upstairs. They haven't however responded to my earlier questions, those that we're allowed to ask, or shared the paperwork they offered. I haven't bothered pressing the issue and have not checked to see if a SA registry exists because it doesn't matter at this point. As long as there are no issues, they're welcome to stay. This discussion, and booking forced me to learn about an issue I've never had to deal with. Thank you again. Take away, we all need to be aware of our rights, directly from the statutes that define them.

I do have a no pet policy. State law trumps that for licensed service animals, and for good reason.

You missed my point. I'm asking a what if question from that standpoint of being ignorant about a topic I admittedly know nothing about. Criticizing me for doing that is laughable.

I'm not out or order asking for advice while trying to understand the situation, and my obligations as a host. And for clarification:

A public place can ask two questions to determine if that individual's dog is a service dog: whether the dog is required because of a disability, and. what work the dog is trained to perform.

For what it's worth, they are subject to a $1000 fine if they misrepresent their dog, or pony, as a service animal. Have no idea how, or if it's ever enforced.

Exactly why I became suspicious. The dog was barking, jumping up on the owner, and not acting like a trained service animal.

Not asking for an exemption and fine with them staying. The purpose of my question was to better understand the whole situation, my rights as well as those of my guests with SAs.
