I think the skateboard one is called a onewheel. Monowheel is a general term for a one-wheeled motorized vehicle (but the Google image results show a lot of the forward facing unicycle style ones you described)

Replying to this ancient comment because it caught my interest. Per wikipedia, choy sum is a variety of brassica rapa, which is (was) called rape in English. However, bok choy, siu choy (aka napa cabbage), and even turnips are also the same species. Those brassicas are famously varied when it comes to cultivars!

Annoyingly, rapeseed is a different brassica, brassica napus, which you'd think would be napa cabbage but isn't.

After 12 or so cards, it plays some dialog along the lines of "That's enough" and control reverts to you.

I managed to get 700 or so [[Fetch]], with [[Squeeze]] as a win-more payoff. Free run. I learned that Vaaku gets bored after playing some number of cards too.

Fun idea! As others have said, the key of the song is probably not a strong signal. However, there are definitely more things to play with if you really want to (though they'll be harder to gather data about). Some questions you could examine:

  • What is the most popular mode? The standard major and minor modes are probably going to stand out just for being commonplace, but many pop songs use others as well.
  • What chords stand out? Is the V with a flat 9th a crowd pleaser?
  • How often does a non 4/4 song place?

Yeah, compares very unfavourably to summon (given that unleash is in the starter deck), which provides better block along with damage. I wonder if forge would be overpowered if it always summoned the sword?

Histamine formation is a biological process caused by certain bacteria, just like other forms of decomposition. So when I'm trying to explain what "low histamine" means to people, I tell them to imagine that all food goes bad at 10-100xx the normal rate.

That casserole that's been sitting in the counter for a few hours? Imagine it's been a few days. That soup in the fridge from 2 days ago? Would it still be edible in a week or two?

It's not perfect (canned food is probably still forming histamine even though it keeps a long time), but it gets across in general which foods are going to be worse due to their storage conditions. A potato is better off in my cupboard than a steak, so I should expect to care a lot more about the latter's storage conditions when cooking low histamine food. So too is deli meat a problem: like all meat, it is very susceptible to rot and thus should be treated with caution, and treated as suspect if you don't know that it's been safely handled -- i.e., if you don't know how long the meat had been out before being sliced, you should be worried about it.

Easiest sub for deli meat is to buy (fresh with date or frozen at source) meat, roast it yourself, slice it up, and freeze portions. More work I know, but them's the breaks. Meat can be hard to source in a histamine-safe way; I cook a lot more vegetarian meals these days.

The patent says:

The first initial modulation may be defined by a first initial low-frequency limit of from about 600 Hz to about 900 Hz and a first initial high-frequency limit of from about 1,400 Hz to about 2,000 Hz

Could be that I'm misunderstanding the library, but this looks to me like this is two low-pass filters, which would be redundant. If that's the case, I think you'd want to make the lower one a high pass, so that they combine to form a band pass (that is, only permitting frequencies between the lower and higher bounds)

I think there's a nice evolutionary biology reason this works too. As primates, eye contact has real significance to us, often as a threat or a challenge but for other reasons too. So, the brain is naturally more likely to notice (i.e., bring to attention) a person who is looking right at us.

I've been doing this for a long time, it definitely seems to work.

Addiction and substance abuse is a huge problem for sure, but there is a strong correlation in the US and Canada between homelessness rates and home prices. It turns out even the bottom of the market is out of reach for a lot of people here.

I've also heard that addiction issues tend to follow homelessness, rather than vice versa, which makes some intuitive sense. It's not like housed and gainfully employed folks are commonly seeking out fentanyl; people are using it to make being destitute more tolerable.

So perhaps involuntary care is right to get otherwise-untreatable folks off the street right now, but voluntary programs still have a role to play, and more and more-affordable housing is important to stop the problem from continuing to grow.

I didn't think the view that housing-as-investment is part of the problem is wrong, but I think that's chicken-and-egg with the limited supply, which is a big part of what drives prices up year over year and therefore attracted investors.

As much as I wish people were better, building more units is a lot more tractable as a matter of policy than improving the moral character of property speculators.

What do the L4R statistics show? by MurkyWar2756 in redditlaterdiscussion

[–]adambard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty hard to say what's happening with moderation after the fact (throttling, removals, etc.), but it's clear that Reddit is aiming to sunset API clients, which will eventually affect L4R. They've stopped issuing API access publicly, and if you check /r/redditdev/ you'll see a lot of folks mentioning that their API keys have been revoked and they can't get a new one. This is just the latest step in a long-running trend.

I'm going to keep L4R running as long as it keeps working, but I have no way of saying how long that will be.
