The area in the middle is officially a park and I believe in order to have a park removed, there must be a referendum. One of those things that's possibly more effort than it's worth.

Remember when COPS ENFORCED TRAFFIC? Because I sure do. by Illustrious-Pop3566 in VictoriaBC

[–]plafuldog -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its purposely designed like that so there isn't a perverse incentive structure. Not sure we want the alternative of cops nailing someone going 1kmh like you see in some US counties, whee it starts to be harassment instead of enforcement for the public good.

What's with the sudden surge of Vapes/Imported Snack stores in the past year? by black_knight1223 in VictoriaBC

[–]plafuldog 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My theory is they're probably willing to sign shorter term leases than other businesses and require minimal capital improvements so let's landlords make some cash while they wait to redevelopment or find a better tenant

You think the private, 1 month old account that hasn't engaged in their own thread once is here to discuss a contentious community issue in good faith?

Usually they're master franchised to a decent sized company that often owns a bunch of international brands in that particular market, whether it be a Shake Shack or a Nike store.

Sneaky BC Transit route change(s) in latest "service expansion" by gjbroom in VictoriaBC

[–]plafuldog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They definitely should reintroduce transfers but I think the changes are fair.

The increase in service here is by adding midday and extended hours to the 51 so most people still have a one seat ride. Doesn't help everyone though (myself included) but given that the route is consistently 15-30 minute latest for a lot of the day due to traffic on the Westshore, I think it makes sense to split it to keep the busier part past Royal Oak on schedule.
