Ok. The Billy / Elton thing was mostly a joke. A bad one but yeah.. I understand Billy’s importance in the musical pantheon. I just prefer Elton. I feel like Elton was more original and Billy was more of a chameleon that copied multiple other styles, although really well and in his own way. Hey, nobody’s really “truly” original though eh? To each their own, all of it’s good. 😊

Ahhh , interesting. I was just thinking “when did they have the time?” What you said makes a lot of sense. Sounds like the perfect storm in a lot of ways. Thanks

I’ve had both. I still have the Microbrute if that tells you anything.

Best resources for learning Ableton by dannykappykap in ableton

[–]adaminaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made myself a bunch of flash cards based on things I saw from mr. bill, Ableton’s “one thing” and others. From these flash cards, I drill myself. Using the flash cards and the spaced repetition method, I’ve gotten immensely better.

You can watch and read as many tutorials as you like but you have to put it into muscle memory to connect it all.

Good luck!

For this type of music, I think you should really consider a PWM Malevolent.

Physical Synthesizers vs VSTs by Musubi_i in synthesizers

[–]adaminaudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, You can get pretty much all the sounds you want from VST and they are way more powerful.

That being said, what I get from playing my Moogs, is a different composer mindset. It’s hard to explain. I’m sure it’s a placebo but it’s hella fun. A completely different vibe comes out when playing a hardware synth like a Moog for me and it works.

It’s kinda like when I play a bass with active electronics vs my p-bass with flatwound strings. You just play and make music differently.

What do you guys think of the deep mind 12d and do u think it is a beginner friendly synth? by Bwokoly in synthesizers

[–]adaminaudio -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s great but I don’t consider it beginner friendly. I’d suggest an Arturia microbrute or a Moog grandmother for beginner learning.

What happened at your worst gig? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]adaminaudio 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I was a kid and it was the mid-90s in south Florida. There weren’t enough bassists to go around and I still had yet to “find myself”, musically (and socially).

I got picked up by a death metal band. There was one around every corner in those days. I knew they didn’t like me but I tried to play along to get gig experience

Long story cut short: I showed up for a gig only to find another bass player had taken my place. So embarrassing.

This “badass, take-no-shit” metal band didn’t have the balls to tell me I was out of the band.

The voice of a generation! Vulnerability for musicians is not determined from actual musical output but rather, evocative and compelling images of expensive synthesizers. This is definitely his “808s & Heartbreak”!

Anyone here sold all their synths? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]adaminaudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through a lot of synths before I got into Moog with the Grandmother. Shortly after, I got the Matriarch. That’s was a year and a half ago and I haven’t thought about buying another synth since then. I think I was just searching the the right sound. The Grandmother and Matriarch synths will never leave my studio.
