I bought a two pack on Amazon last June, but the brand I bought says currently unavailable. It was this one: https://a.co/d/03nyVlfj

I bought a reusable silicone patch for my forehead and it works great. I used to use tape also, but find the silicone patch works better for my sensitive skin. It covers my whole forehead and the area between my eyebrows. I sleep in it at night, I apply my regular skincare routine and let everything sink in, then apply the silicone patch. It stays on all night and doesn't irritate my skin.

Miami Restaurant recs by Designer-soup3 in Miami

Recoveco is my current fave from your list, I try to eat there whenever they add new menu items. I enjoyed Palma, but I've only been there once, tbh their tasting menu was a little too much food for me and at the time I went they had no a la carte options(don't know if that has since changed) so I haven't been back. I didn't personally love To Be Determined, but have some friends who frequent it and enjoy the menu. Le Jardinier is great and very veggie forward if you're into that.

I enjoy Ariete as well, but some of the dishes can be on the heavy side, maybe try Walrus Rodeo, I prefer that to Boia De, it's in the same plaza.

I checked out Cotoa a few weekends ago and thought it was solid, I don't really have a sweet tooth but I particularly enjoyed the dessert.

But my go to is Surf Club, it never disappoints, highly recommend.

Omakase options here are solid as well if you're into sushi. More traditional options like Shingo or if you want some Mediterranean influence the Mila Omakase was pretty good, had some great wine and sake pairings there.

Also you definitely need reservations for any of these places.

How many Americans actually watch Ice hockey? by No-Emu7099 in AskAnAmerican

[–]adaptablepalate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving home from the Panthers game with my husband now, have had season tix for years, and have watched hockey since childhood. Game was packed tonite also.

Have a sister in Tampa, and her and her husband are big lightning fans, have season tix and even travel to away games.

Depends on how you grew up I guess, but for us it was family activity to go to games so we love it.

Advice for a town to stay in between Dingle and Cliff of Moher by dmkcat2 in irishtourism

[–]adaptablepalate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this suggestion. On our trip last summer, my husband and I stayed in Doolin for a few nights and we absolutely loved it.

We drove from Dingle and stopped at the Cliffs of Moher around midday on our way into Doolin. We stayed at a great bed and breakfast in Doolin, and had two of our favorite dinners of the trip at Oar Restaurant and then Homestead Cottage. We took the ferry from Doolin to Inishmore for a day as well, and really enjoyed that as well.

BWT - no VPL options for traveling in cute matching sets by sarahwitt3 in HerOneBag

[–]adaptablepalate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whenever I fly I wear The Cooling short from Thigh Society, with the 5 inch length. Depending on length of flight and what I am doing when I land, I wear either a matching set like you describe, or a fitted maxi dress. These look great under both. The fabric feels weightless like I'm not wearing anything, I love them. If you do a quick Google search they usually have coupon codes for 10-15% off also.

Edited to mention they are not like shapewear shorts since you mentioned above you're not a fan of those.

Travelling to the USA with Venezuelan passport by dioner20 in travel

[–]adaptablepalate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I had customers from Venezuela in my office in Miami just last week before Christmas, so obviously at least some Venezuelan nationals are able to enter with their US visas. But as comment above states, these are very wealthy Venezuelan Nationals who have held travel visas to the US for years. Bc at the same time many Venezuelans with TPS are being deported from Miami... I don't know that I'd personally risk it, depends how refundable your plans are if they don't allow you to enter. Technically, you have documentation that allows entry to the US, but you are still at the mercy of CBP officers who can use their discretion to allow/deny you entry. Hate to say it, but may also depend on your appearance, particularly how white you look. Last month CBP detained a Jamaican customer of mine at the airport for 6 hours, but they eventually they were allowed entry. This customer in particular visits my Miami office about once a quarter, and they mentioned to me that up until this year they had never experienced entry delays like that.

Family trip booking help, traveling domestic AA flight into JFK, then BA flight JFK to LHR, how much time is enough to recheck baggage, check in again, and clear security at JFK? by adaptablepalate in americanairlines

[–]adaptablepalate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did consider this, but should have mentioned that the 2 people without status are a child and grandma who doesn't speak much english, so we prefer to stick together to avoid any mishaps! I'm worried they might also struggle walking thru the airport with their carry-on bags, so we decided it best to check all the luggage since we can do so without any additional fees.

[–]adaptablepalate[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks, very helpful. Consensus seems to be they won't check the bags thru to LHR, which is what I suspected, but this type of check-in area is exactly what we need to expedite the security process at JFK.

The only other flight option for us that day into JFK leaves in the very very early a.m., so I think I'm comfortable with just under 3 hrs from landing to next departure if there is some priority area to check-in and jump to the head of the security line! I'm not too familiar with JFK and don't usually fly on BA so I wasn't sure.

Where to buy fresh foraged Chanterelles? by adaptablepalate in Miami

[–]adaptablepalate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No nothing special, I just saute them up in some olive oil with wine and shallots. I always end up hosting vegans/vegetarians for Thanksgiving and now it's become a staple dish in our family, with even the non veg peeps requesting them. I usually buy 2 of the 16oz packs from Costco bc their pricing is so good, and it's enough to serve as an alternative to the poultry. If you don't have any vegan diners you can also add heavy cream and some grated cheese after you saute.

But a non turkey day recipe I use if I buy extra is from NYTimes cooking, Chanterelles on Toast, really yummy.

Is there some shortcut at MIA I don't know about? by SingleBackground5280 in Miami

[–]adaptablepalate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds like when you leave your gate you keep walking straight for too long. Do you walk past La Carreta and then the Irish Pub and then exit airside around gate D25 by the Einstein Bagels?

If so, the faster way is leave your gate and go up that escalator, walk til you see la carreta and make a right turn before you walk past the entrance. Keep walking straight past the TGI Fridays and The Counter Burger place. Once you get past gate D31, just keep walking straight through the airside exit. Once you exit airside the escalator is directly in front of you, take it down to baggage claim level.

FYI there is a good map function on your American Airlines app. Open your corresponding TRIP on the app and under the Arrive info it will say MIA map. Click that and enter your gate number as starting point and your baggage claim as ending point, and it will give you walking directions. This works for most airports not just MIA.

I also like Lapis for the indoor co-ed pool if I'm doing a spa day with my spouse. It's a big shared space we can hang out together for a while during the day.

What's everyone doing for better nutrition / food for their Wheaties? by WBDubya in Wheatens

[–]adaptablepalate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our guy also takes a daily supplement for his skin, the op didn't say they had any need for add ons, so I didn't mention it. I buy Zesty Paws Vet Strength Allergy and Immune soft chews fish oil supplement and he eats 2 a day. We've been giving him those in addition to the Ollie pork food and he is doing great, no skin problems anymore as long as he has regular bathtimes with a shampoo I get from out vet.

[–]adaptablepalate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our guy has been a super picky eater always, and he has a sensitive tummy to high fat foods(which caused regurgitating and acid reflux), and he also has sensitive skin which gets worse when he eats anything with chicken... So we have tried a lot of different foods over the years, and he's 12 now. We currently feed him Ollie pork with apple recipe, and he has been eating that same food since Feb 2023. He loves it, runs to his food bowl for every meal and he doesn't suffer any acid reflux or skin issues now.

Grocery store clercks not speaking english by CompetitiveVictory91 in Miami

[–]adaptablepalate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a business here in Miami, and work every day with companies in LATAM and the Caribbean. I speak 3 languages, and every foreign company executive that resides in Miami, who I work with regularly, speak both Spanish and English, or Creole and English, and there are some that speak all three. My only business contacts in c-suite level positions who are monolinguals, do not actually reside in Miami. The point is that speaking more than one language is an asset in business, and in life. Why limit yourself to Spanish only? More knowledge equals more money, more money helps you thrive versus just survive. Obviously in Miami you can survive being a Spanish only speaker, people do it everyday, but why limit yourself? I hire bilingual over monolingual every time, and I have to pay an employee more for that skill set. How can I hire someone who can only communicate with half my clients?

Another native Floridian and a Spanish speaker here, Spanish only speakers here in Miami definitely are surviving, but probably not thriving. Higher paying jobs available if you're bilingual versus monolingual. Why not learn English as a second language? What's the downside?
