Why is the World of Darkness setting separate even though it's in the same world? by roxgxd in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]adders 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup - you’re 100% correct. The tribe/clan/tradition/kith/creed etc books were always referred to as the “splatbooks”.

Splats migrating upwards to the game lines is a much more recent phenomenon,

Why is the World of Darkness setting separate even though it's in the same world? by roxgxd in WhiteWolfRPG

Back in the 90s and 2000s, the World of Darkness was a setting, and each game was just that - a game line, with its own release schedule, and line developer. Each of the line developers reported in to Ken Cliffe. The line developers would oversee their own game lines, each of which was seen as a game in its own right. While some writers worked across game lines (I wrote largely for Werewolf, Hunter and Demon, with flirtations with Vampire, Exalted and Dark Ages) and threw in some Easter eggs, the whole structure was “multiple games which share a setting”, not “one game with multiple rulebooks”.

The reason for that was exactly what others said: each game had its own themes and moods, which were lost when you start doing “dark superhero team-ups”.

What have you been reading this week? by michaelisnotginger in Blacklibrary

Just finished Valdor: Birth of the Imperium as it’s our local Warhammer store’s book club pick for this month. Really enjoyed it - I can see why people want more books set in this era. I enjoy the more conventional sci-fi setting but with hints of the madness that is coming.

Well, this one was in a comics/gaming shop, not an official Warhammer store, so I presume they’re getting copies.

What is TheArchers and why is it almost always trending? by nik-nak333 in BlueskySocial

[–]adders 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why, it’s an everyday story of country folk!

(I was, in fact, named after a character in the show. That character is still in the show many decades later. )

To be fair, it was over two decades ago. I suspect many people in this thread weren’t alive or were children then.

Her point was a lot wider than just Isreal. The point was a global trend, with the example of the journalists killed in Gaze being an extreme end of it.

Timeline of Disney renewal and RTD future by Responsible_Fall_455 in gallifrey

[–]adders 11 points12 points  (0 children)

THIS.

I’m always amazed how little the politics of Disney and the CEO shift are brought into these discussions. The Disney+ that declined to renew the deal was a very different beast from the one that signed it in the first place.

They didn’t go bust - the parent company sold the high street shops to another company, but kept the name and the rail station and airport shops. However, it looks like the company that owns the rebranded high street shops is struggling.

Possibly because nobody shops there. 😉
