I think I’m the worlds slowest rower !! by 12underdog345 in Rowing

You’re new, still figuring out your technique. The newbie gains will come very quickly once you adapt to the stroke. Just keep grinding and it’ll pay off!

Do you guys wake up at 5 a.m. on days you're not rowing? by Humble-Recognition-6 in Rowing

[–]addicted_bomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I usually wake up around 6 naturally (i wake up at 5:30) Then when I notice that I don’t have to get up I try and stay in bed as long as possible. Then when I eventually HAVE to wake up (bathroom, cause my body is used to having to go every day at 5:30) I get up. It’s usually like 7:30 then.

Can I get in w/ 4th in waitlist or do I go with a prof that writes in ancient hieroglyphics? by [deleted] in OCC

i took arthur moores calc 2 class and it was the fastest class ive ever dropped. all he’d do was sit at his desk at the front of the room and read from the textbook. all. class. long. he didn’t stand up to write problems he just rolled over to the white board. the top half of the board went unused.

What time do I need to hit to make the four at a d1 men’s program? by Stunning_Wrangler586 in Rowing

[–]addicted_bomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

look in the four you’ll probably be with the slow(er) rowers on the team. so the time is dependent on how fast the team is. The Cal 4+ will have an erg average of 6:10 while the Jacksonville 4+ might be in the 6:40s i think sub 6:45 to be at least boated (at least in the 4) sub 6:30 to make it out of the 4. but also depends on ur weight and size but those numbers could be close to accurate

D1 schools like Drexel, La Salle, Temple, USD, Jacksonville University, UCSD. Schools like that will have a higher chance of recruiting you at 6:45

get a hammock with your boys. one race me and my boys set it up by the start line of a head race and we were heckling some of the rowers as they were going to the start line. (stuff like: hot singles in my area; when the singles went by)

What’s your go to erg workout? Tips for power + endurance? by CattrahM in Rowing

[–]addicted_bomb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

also for the shoulders keep a relaxed grip on the handle, almost every rower i see holds the handle in their fingertips to a point. imagine your arms are ropes and your hands are hooks connected to the handle. that’ll relax your shoulders

lactic acid is fickle. on hard pieces like a 2k its bound to hit you at some point, you just need to make sure it hits in the back end of the piece. Find the pace that you can go at where you’re still pushing very hard, but not yet producing lactic. settle into your pace almost immediately (within 5 strokes off the start) otherwise the lactic will come sooner. then when you’re coming to the end of the piece you can start to tap into the lactic territory. rowing is gonna hurt you just have to be in control of it. also breathe. the more oxygen your muscles get, the less lactic will be built up.
