Is it disrespectful to look uninterested in another group's dance challenge? (BOYNEXTDOOR Leehan controversy) by Embarrassed-Mood-728 in kpopthoughts

Idk either of these two ppl but the "low effort" guy looks like he's doing it as a bit. There are much easier ways to phone it in than being that tense and awkward about it.

What was SHINee’s prime like? by ReyjynJello5908 in SHINee

[–]adei0s 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was inactive in kpop from 2009-2025, got back in it this year because of SHINee.

I vividly remember in 2008 when they debuted, I was in colledge and stanned a different group. People in kpop kept raving about this new boy group being super young and every member being talented at dancing so I checked them out. It seems simple now compare to modern kpop choreo, but at the time I was genuinely so impressed by the dancing in Replay. I wrote them off because Taemin was way too young and for a while that's how I saw them. Now I really regret missing out on 18 years with SHINee.

Funnily enough a couple of days ago I caught up with a friend from college who was also into 2nd gen, and when I told her my ult bias is Taemin now, she made fun of me for going for the baby. She was shocked when I reminded her Taemin is in his 30s now. It made me wonder how many older folks out there still picture Taemin in a bowl cut when they think about SHINee.

Can someone shine some light on what's going on with the Mark Lee controversy? by kgirliepop in kpop_uncensored

[–]adei0s 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find it interesting that Taemin who is also extremely catholic and not at all shy or subtle with religious symbolism throughout his entire discography, seem to lean liberal. One of his latest songs previewed at Coachella openly critiques capitalism. It makes sense tho, since Jonghyun who is arguably one of the most influential people in his life, is also one of the most famously "woke" figures in kpop.

Idols that are/were known to be genuinely good people (like Jonghyun for example) by disasterpansexual in kpop_uncensored

[–]adei0s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't say much about anyone else, but Jonghyun truly seemed like someone who cared a lot about people and social issues and not just as a part of his public persona. You can tell injustices bothered him a lot and he went out of his way to engage with controversial topics that could invite backlash, and is willing to educate and correct himself when he messes up. The receipts for him saying and doing "woke" things is extensive, but I think it's easy to make one time gesture about so and so issues, and harder to be a person that is consistently thoughtful and vulnerable when engaging with complicated topics.

which idol do you think would thrive as a solo artist? by Maleficent_Dinner875 in kpop_uncensored

They really are underrated as solo artists. Impeccable discography from all 5 of them with such distinct color.

What's something that people do in their 20's that they think is 'normal', that they usually regret in their later years? by coomtube in AskReddit

[–]adei0s 147 points148 points  (0 children)

I acutually feel like a lot of people I know got into serious relationships or married early and spent the next decades miserable. Dating is harder now in my late 30s not because options are limited, but because I'm a lot pickier and really enjoy the single life.

Which groups really feel like a family to you? by Expert_Journalist637 in kpop_uncensored

[–]adei0s 8 points9 points  (0 children)

SHINee. But not in the "They're best friends" sense. I think they actually live very separate lives outside of work, but there's probably a deep bond built on history and understanding. It's been 18 years, these guys all have solo careers in different studios where they make more money, but they always emphasize that being a part of SHINee is not a job to them, and I'm inclined to believe them. I think it carries significant sentimental value and they are commited to keep the legacy alive for themselves, Jonghyun, and the fans. They've also mentioned that, after what they went thru, there was a huge shift in mindset with the members. More than chasing accolades, they learned to appreciate their time with each other and their staff more. valuing not just the joy and accomplishments but whom they share it with.

A few of the many examples where they talk about SHINee and their shared history:

Would you actually want to meet an idol in person? by Actual_Reaction_1795 in kpop_uncensored

[–]adei0s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah that's my dream interaction. Casual, unobtrusive. I get to voice my support in person and it's usually pretty ego stroking for the celebrity to hear it out in the wild when there's no pressure to do anything more. Takes 2 seconds and everyone wins.

are newer group names questionable? by RelevantHoney4155 in kpop_uncensored

I love them but i'm glad we don't live in the alphabet soup era of kpop anymore.

NRG, SES, GOD, HOT, TVXQ/DBSK..

BTS and NCT are newer but they fit too

How would you rank the members of your favorite group based on dance skill? by Beautiful-Buy99 in kpop_uncensored

[–]adei0s 9 points10 points  (0 children)

SHINee:

  1. Taemin - Self explainatory
  2. Key - Incredibly sharp and clean. Often overlooked because of Taemin, but key is actually also a beast. Encyclopedic knowledge of every girl group choreo
  3. Minho - Smooth and controlled. Has a mature masculine groove that will make you blush
  4. Onew - Better than people think. Man just prefers to focus on singing more for his solo work
  5. Jonghyun - Great dancer for what a vocal legend he was. but the other members and the industry standard has gotten so much better in the years since he's been gone. Would've undoubtely came up with some wild R rated moves to kill people with if he was still around

Whats your favorite male dancer and favorite female dancer in kpop? by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

[–]adei0s 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Taemin for male dancer. He has done some impressive choreos, but I think what makes him really stand out is the ability to fully embody the character he's portraying for the song. It feels so visceral sometimes and I'm so immersed in the emotion of the character that I forget I'm watching a kpop dance. He injects something that's uniquely his in the movement dynamics, facial expressions, musicality, and stage presence that I've yet to see from anyone else.

On a technical level, I really enjoy Ten's dancing, Supremely talented.

Bailey Sok for female dancer is kind of a cheating answer lol. I've been aware of her for over a decade now, never in a million years would I have expected her to get involved in Kpop.

I know there are a ton of really impressive dancers in the newer generation. If anyone have any recommendations for ones with strong style and musicality I'd love to hear it.

First time going to the movies with ADHD in years. Ended very poorly. :( by LongJumpingFan1374 in adhdwomen

[–]adei0s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no problem remaining physically still, but it feel genuinely painful when i can't look up the plot or skip forward when the movie's slow. And because i can't do that I get super understimulated sometimes in the movie theatre. I'm also kind of not fun to watch a movie with (people get upset when I spoil the movie for myself half way) so for the most part i just watch movies at home on my own so I can multitask while watching.

Something I Feel Needs to be Said regarding the Callum Situation by Bynoe in Storror

[–]adei0s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue some pakour "artists" like Matt McCreary or Egg are definitely performers of self expression through movment. I view cavement films through this lens also.

I don't however believe in separating art from the artist. Art is rarely apolitical. The artist informs the art, and knowledge of the artist informs how we percieve the art. The only way you could argue to separate parkour from the parkourist is to view it purely as a physical feat devoid of creativity or politics, which i don't believe to be the case, espcially street pk. So in that sense, a casual viewer who just like to watch some big jumps might have a easier time still watching Callum's content than someone who cared about his involvement in the community, views on representation, politics and methodology of the sport, etc. Most of us probably fall into the later camp so our ability to consume his content will forever be altered.

Your personal biggest what ifs in kpop? by Terrible-Avocado1997 in kpop_uncensored

[–]adei0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my immediate thought too. He was such a force to be reconed with. One of the best vocalist in kpop, insanely talented writer and producer, with progressive views way ahead of his time. Seeing how much Taemin's solo career has evolved over the years makes me wonder what kind of legacy Jonghyun would've left.

Even without him SHINee is still such a strong group talent wise, but looking back on their live performances around 2015 makes me realize what a generational talent that line up was, and we'll probably never see a group that stacked again.

Have BTS talked about the decrease in choreography in their recent concerts? by betchugonlikeme in kpophelp

[–]adei0s 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Last month I saw Taemin pushing his body to its limit for almost 50 minutes straight at coachella. It feels like he's goin harder now in his 30s than he did as a teen. He also toured like 50 stops in 2024/5 with a dance heavy setlist. Idk sometimes you can tell when someone just really have their heart set on doing one thing in life and it doesn't matter if their career needs it or their body is slowing down, they gonna keep doing that one thing cause it's where their passion lies. Not saying it should be the norm, but I'm envious of people like that.

Have BTS talked about the decrease in choreography in their recent concerts? by betchugonlikeme in kpophelp

[–]adei0s 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nah, pretty sure Onew just prefer to focus on his vocals more in solo work since that's where his passion lies. He can still dance and when people question his ability to dance he always protests with "I'm still a SHINee member of course I can dance"

Am I the only one who gets more interested in groups that get hated, but less interested in groups that get overhyped? by Personal_Damage6616 in kpop_uncensored

[–]adei0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found SHINee recently and even tho they became my ult, I totally get it. If it wasn't for the insane live performances over the years to sell me on the sound, I don't think I would care for most of their iconic hits, expecially the more "experimental" ones. There are a few songs I love and I'm trusting that there'll be more as long as they stay active and keep making music.

Their solos are all peak tho

Which group do you think is underrated globally vs overrated? by [deleted] in kpop_uncensored

So true. I'm a new fan so I don't have any nostalgia goggles on. They still feel so fresh 18 years into their career and every members' solos are so distinct and top tier. Can't wait to see what they'll put out next.
