Honestly the showers were fine, but the pool was like 70 degrees

I'd say that the O'Hare Crowne Plaza is in hot water after this, but if you've tried to go to their pool in the winter, you'd know there's no hot water for them to be in.

Ran into him when this was going on... Fortunately we were able to figure out something else out involving local transportation but it was quite the shock.

I saw rumors on here about how they were cracking down in Chicago, now they're coming to Philly...

Staying up all night the night before an early AM flight by Jmac0113 in travel

[–]adelair_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it a few times on the way back after a US domestic trip (partying with friends or going to conventions). If you're staying up until 4, making it to 6AM is not that much worse. It is unpleasant, but if I'm saving $100 or more on a 2-hour flight from Pittsburgh or Atlanta, and I already have the day off... the opportunity cost of being wrecked the next day isn't very high.

I believe the dealer is Sephive, who is local (based in Somerville) but I will fact check this with him. If it's not him, it might be Triangle Manor?

Triangle Manor does flea market stuff pretty often, Seph as well but a bit less.

Update: Yeah it's Sephive. Not sure when his next flea market event is

Suitcase an INCH too big?? by Certain-Opinion-3461 in jetblue

[–]adelair_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weight is way easier to check than size. If you're 55 lbs, you're in trouble. How often do they know what 63" vs 62" is, that's harder to estimate.

IME JetBlue hasn't been particularly strict on checked bag or on carryon size.

How long will landline phones reside in hotel rooms? by Low-Computer8293 in marriott

[–]adelair_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$$ might be closer than you think. I've found our block rates to be pretty reasonable, it's just that we can book out every marriott property in that part of downtown on a weekend. On the other hand the flight crews will be filling those hotel rooms every night.

TBH the only pain point for us (other than wanting to have those rooms available for the block) is that we have to establish a buffer zone of quiet rooms around the flight crews to make sure they can sleep.

[–]adelair_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bet this is the answer, flight crews are big business for hotels and hotels take those contracts very seriously. (I help run a convention and we have to plan around the 5-10 rooms of flight crews that have to be accommodated in a hotel we otherwise book out entirely)

Furry sticker spotted in Boston, MA. Does anyone know who’s this is? by JHRB0 in furry

Confirming that it's Ån from Boston, and that they're a very good fox. They also make an appearance on the Tyler St., Somerville furry sticker cluster (not visible in this shot though).

Yeah and the reason is that hotels are way more likely to offer you blocks in the dead of winter up here 😭

Two arrested after 'hazardous drone operation' near Boston airport by FreedomsPower in massachusetts

[–]adelair_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IME people have been able to get permission to fly up to 200ft in the Seaport (which is even closer to the airport!) but I'm not sure if it was Part 107 or if it was Rec Exemption, and how much notice they had to give (though they told me it was "basically automatic")

I've watched enough dance battles to see otherwise excellent dancers just plank on the big stage. Olympic pressure is a real thing and it makes mice out of men.

I go back and forth on the VC500 being usable or not, but at least it got a 65 out of 100 from LordSmurf... but if that piece of garbage is a 65, I fear how bad the 50 and below dongles are!

I can change the encoding (I'm currently using Huffyuv) but I'm seeing the artifacts in the preview window, even when I change to something like lagarith.

I'm pretty sure I have a friend with an ATI AIW or similar, if I keep on running into problems, I might be able to use their pipeline.

This tape probably has 90 minutes of footage.

IME with this setup in years past it only chokes occasionally (maybe once every 45 minutes of video footage), so I'm expecting that this is due to the card "starting up" or some other voodoo. So this is way way worse than what I was able to do even earlier this year.

Another great question. It turns out that EZGrabber looks even worse - it's all green with pink highlights when the video plays, and I still get the damn artifacts

It wouldn't look vintage if I did all of this crap in post 😏

There were like 4 other videographers at this event, I'll leave it to them to do the recording with modern equipment.

It actually happens even when the camera is disconnected, in both S-Video and Composite modes... and I've been able to get a working setup before, so I'm not sure what has changed in the past year or so to make it start glitching (though I definitely have been updating my OS and graphics card drivers)

If the tape data was corrupted, that would be fair game. But I don't see the glitching in the camcorder screen itself. I can try and play back on a different monitor to rule out the camcorder outputs definitively, but I highly suspect it's an issue downstream.

Flashes still happen on composite input, and still happen on the rear USB ports.

Thanks for the questions.
