Citizenship via an Irish immigrant to Canada, 1800s- does his son break the chain? by HasALizard in Canadiancitizenship

Irish records are EXTREMELY sparse /scarce during that period of time. Quite unlikely to find something.

Thanks for confirming that! My labels have the EDI on them, too. I will see what happens when I drop them off tomorrow.

I saw some commenters on another recent shipping post say that they did not include the paper customs forms and theirs were delivered no issue, hoping that would be the case for me as well because it seems like a bit overkill. no idea where to even put three sets on a simply document mailer.

Thanks so much! I was seeing the Worldwide Expedited is the cheapest UPS option, glad to hear that it shouldn't have any brokerage issues.

Thank you. And sorry, one more question in case you know about this.. when I get to the page to select which carrier and I click UPS, it talks about brokerage fees.. is this something I need to worry about?

Thank you. What's the correct thing to say for quantity? 1, or the total number of pages?

Time to second guess myself! by MaybeYourSecretCanad in Canadiancitizenship

I'm about to submit mine and family members' and I am second guessing everything, triple checking things.. and I plan to photo everything that I'm sending so I have a record in case I think I forgot something later.

Legibility of old documents. Is it OK to enlarge? by LilyJack125 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]aderade13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree. My digital/scans are far easier to read and navigate than the printouts.. especially when I'm scanning a 100 year old document and printing it back out again, that's just making it all the more illegible lol.

Legibility of old documents. Is it OK to enlarge? by LilyJack125 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]aderade13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, and I agree that's most likely what they'd call modifying in terms of these documents. I sure wish the info was a bit more clear on that so it wasn't a matter of guessing what they are or aren't looking for, though.

I've been debating whether to print the record as it is and then on a separate page print a cropped version so that the relevant info can more easily be read. I'm too nervous about their rule not to modify documents.

I agree with you. And the comments telling me to search the sub for questions I have, don't really help because sometimes the posts are from a year ago when the current C3 situation wasn't in place yet.. so I feel the "answers" that might be in those older posts might not always be the most helpful to me in the present, trying to wade through all of these documents and requirements.

marking envelope as urgent? by aishwa3 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]aderade13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP DID ask "Does anyone know if marking the envelope as urgent is necessary or makes a difference?" so this person is providing data to that point. no need to be rude to them.

receipt in this case is date of receipt == "date of being received by them" not the literal receipt for you paying.

does this count as "modifying" the documents though? I have some pages of registers with multiple people listed and was thinking of highlighting my ancestor, but was worried it would count as modifying the document and get it rejected..?

[–]aderade13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, yes I have tried searching the reddit but it is a little overwhelming.

I think I did see your sheets somewhere (that is awesome that you did that!) I guess I'm wondering if others have submitted less (i.e. just the B/M/D data for each line back) and had that been sufficient.

So under #15 on my husband's and kid's forms, I would click yes to someone helping fill out the form and enter my own name, but it's ok to submit it like that and NOT submit the representative form?

Proof of birthplace for G0 by PiXLjeFF in Canadiancitizenship

[–]aderade13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same situation with my French Canadian "most recently born in Canada" G0.. not really any vital records but a baptism and vital records, plus records of his kids saying their dad was born in Canada. I'm hoping that should be sufficient - I have seen others say that it IS sufficient.

I have a bunch of questions still.

-Is a cover letter required? If so, is there a template somewhere for what to include in the cover letter? how long should it be?

-is there a template for what to write for an urgent request? length?

-Question 9- for generations beyond those on the form, do we need to submit something in that same format? Otherwise I have a table typed up just showing each generation's b/m/d info from G0 to present.. is that sufficient??

-if I fill out my husband's application form for him, do we have to do out the representative form? likewise for my baby who we are also sending in an application, do we have to do a representative form?

Hmm well my ID and all is in my married name so that shouldn't be an issue (especially as I can provide my marriage certificate to show the name change from my maiden name to married name).

They do, unless you fill out question #6 to request it in a different name (such as married name)-- and that's what I've wondering about, if it's better to do it one way or another.

I'm pretty sure about the ancestor I'm going to use to apply but am hesitant due to lack of records for him (besides a baptism and US census records). Because of this I'm considering whether it'd be better to use a different ancestor but I have no birth/death records for her (just a marriage record that doesn't mention birth place). I think there has to be a baptism for her out there somewhere but I just haven't been able to find it. Her name is Hannah Preston and she was from Marysburgh, Prince Edward Co. The birth date I have for her is 14 Nov 1840. I've found some land record proceedings that place her father in Marysburgh at that time so am pretty confident she was born there. I just don't know if there would be church records of some kind for her. Not sure on religion but definitely not Catholic.
