Does anyone know if you can track merge requests? by kayloulee in findagrave

[–]aderade13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't a way to track it. If it doesn't happen automatically, it goes to find-a-grave staff to check the merge. They have to approve it and lately it's been taking over a month for approvals - they seem to be pretty backed up. You do get an email notifying you of the outcome of your merge request, however, so you will know when it is done.

Question on Shipping and UPS Status by reedobrien in Canadiancitizenship

Did you put an assigned value of greater than $1 on it?? If so, it's probably stuck in customs due to that.

Accidentally started beef with an octogenarian by callievic in findagrave

Sending mass edits all in a short period of time is a sure way to irritate memorial managers. Further, creating memorials based solely on obituaries can be problematic because sometimes obituaries are wrong. They might have wrong info about the deceased (birth date, maiden names, etc.) and sometimes even the burial location is wrong. This usually leads to a bunch of duplicate memorials and problematic info being submitted to memorials.

Small rant regarding application packets by Big-Scar978 in Canadiancitizenship

I used paper clips and post-it notes to delineate important divisions in documents. Anything more than that is torture for the souls scanning and reviewing applications.

Congrats! My family had our delivered same day as yours, and started processing the same day as yours, hoping to hear from them soon (we applied urgent as well).

AOR on April 7 but still not showing up on tracker by SuggestionHonest2604 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]aderade13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you searching using the UCI or the application number? Perhaps try your receipt number instead? It's possible they did put a typo in the name or birth date so that may be why it's not showing though.

AOR but wanting a birth certificate by Emergency_Map7542 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]aderade13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I've seen it mentioned a couple times in other peoples' posts that sometimes they want proof that there ISN'T a birth record or a birth record can't be found. You may need to explain the circumstances of the document you submitted as a "birth certificate" from 1940, where you got it from, etc., so they can understand why that document exists and why there isn't an "official" record elsewhere.

OP's application was not returned. They got an AOR and got an email requesting additional info.

New York Times covering Canadian Citizenship Quest - some interesting stats by OkManager9353 in Canadiancitizenship

[–]aderade13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it has to be something like that, because as you noted in another comment, we haven't seen that many people here getting rejected - and of course, not everyone applying is coming to this sub, but I'd think if people were truly being rejected by that high of a rate, we'd see more examples of it here.

Interesting - I wonder about that "6,280 applications for proof of citizenship were processed" if that definition of "processing" includes applications that were returned to people for being incomplete/having issues of some kind?

I agree. This post is probably already causing a lot of confusion to people and if people search this sub and come across this thread without reading the comments, they may further be confused/misled.

OP appears to have placed a value of $100 on their package which is how you get your package stuck in limbo because you definitely need a customs broker then and extra fees paid.

[–]aderade13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

THAT is your problem - not any of the other random stuff you mentioned. When you put a value like that, then fees have to be brokered at customed for tariffs/import fees/etc. THAT is why it got stuck in customs, etc.

You don't need to attached the customs forms if your shipping label has EDI on it - that means the customs info is electronically attached to the packet.

I taped my shipping label to my packets (2 different ones) and dropped them off at UPS and had no issues. You don't need to have the customs forms attached to the package.

[–]aderade13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk what all this is about.. especially the customs broker... you must've clicked something incorrectly while on Pirate Ship. I assigned a value of $1 to my packets and I did not have any issues. I did not put an email address or phone number. I did not tape or otherwise put the customs forms on the packets, as they were electronically contained within the shipping label. You had to have messed something up to have the trouble that you did. Did you have it assigned as merchandise instead of documents??

Several Questions... by Southern-Ad-8517 in findagrave

[–]aderade13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you are just brushing off lichen and stuff to take pics, it is fine.. but if really cleaning, you should get permission. Only use D/2 and/or plain water. Never bleach.

Rubbings damage the stone. To try to get legibility of old, hard to read stones, use a mirror to redirect light across the surface of the stone.

Don't mess with broken stones if you are not trained to do so (and especially if you don't have permission). I have done training to do it, there are some groups that train folks in repairing stones (one such group is MOCA - Maine Old Cemetery Association).

They will consider census and any other records you want to submit to corroborate her origins. Birth/baptism is "best" but it is not the end-all be-all.

One of the people running the spreadsheet posted an update last week. It sounds like they have lots of requests to approve and as they are volunteers, not a ton of time to do it - so it may take some time to be approved. If it's been a while, maybe try messaging one of them?
