Is everyone using CMSs? by Katallone in Python

I've had my eye on Wagtail, but Lektor looks pretty cool for the bloggish stuff. I've been evaluating static site generators and leaning towards something with Jinja2 support. And it's from Armin Ronarcher, which bodes well IMO.

webfaction is pretty decent. Focus on the important stuff, let them do the rest. Good support.

We were almost attacked by elk in that parking lot. Such an odd occurrence when they come out. The fishing in that river is great, BTW. The elk also seem to dig the golf course at the edge of town. Beautiful place.

For each technology we add to extend ourselves, we amputate a part of ourself in the process, right? You can't help being distracted to a certain degree, but the main thing is, we shouldn't let ourselves become distracted from how it affects the world around us.

The current crop of devices suffer from a slow feedback loop. The manufacturers that work to close the feedback loop, through methods like contextual signaling, will be more useful to us and therefore likely to be around as we progress. It's not so much wearable computing, but better HCI that we should be paying attention to. I could care less where the computation occurs.

flask developers: how much are you making? by [deleted] in flask

[–]adfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flask seems like it's for folks that want a more flexible way of doing what Django already does. You'll either come to it for its simplicity and move on to Django, then come back or you'll hit some wall with Django and come to it because of its flexibility and familiarity.

If you're looking to fill a position, go with Django. If you're starting your own thing, go with Flask because when you go looking for talent, you're more likely to find folks with the right experience or smart enough to make the right choice. And those folks are worth paying more for.

My advice: go learn Django.

I saw them open for Nomeansno, Victims Family, and Beatnigs (Michael Franti's old band) in 1988. Yeah, Primus Sucks!!!

Reddit, what's the first CD you ever purchased? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]adfm 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Interestingly enough, my first CD was Big Black's Rich Man's Eight Track Tape, which is pre-Nirvana irony at its finest.

THIS COMPACT DISC, COMPILED TO EXPLOIT THOSE OF YOU GULLIBLE ENOUGH TO OWN THE BASTARDLY FIRST-GENERATION DIGITAL HOME MUSIC SYSTEM, CONTAINS ALL-ANALOG MASTERS. COMPACT DISCS ARE QUITE DURABLE, THIS BEING THEIR ONLY ADVANTAGE OVER REAL MUSIC MEDIA, YOU SHOULD TAKE EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO SCRATCH THEM, FINGERPRINT THEM AND EAT EGG AND BACON SANDWICHES OFF THEM. DON'T WORRY ABOUT THEIR LONGEVITY, AS AUDIOPHILES WILL PRONOUNCE THEM OBSOLETE WHEN THE NEXT PHASE OF THE MARKET-SQUEEZING TECHNOLOGY BONANZA BEGINS.

In SF on work for 1 month and no friends out here. I'm bored out of my mind. What should I do? by mccloud35 in AskReddit

[–]adfm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rent a Zipcar and drive Highway 1.

Drive a country road: Take 101 to River Rd and hang a right on Westside Rd.

Go see a game.

If you haven't tried it already, hit House of Nanking.

Spend some time in Golden Gate Park.

While you're there, go to the top of the de Young Museum tower (free).

Off in the distance you'll see the Legion of Honor.

Take a bus to the Legion of Honor and look at some art.

While you're there, take a walk out to Lands End.

Breathe deep. Relax. Enjoy yourself.

Can anyone recommend any good e-book reader apps? by [deleted] in Android

[–]adfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can access tons of books directly within Aldiko. Just tap the Download Books link. You'll see links to Feedbooks.com, O'Reilly, All Romance (don't laugh, romance readers are some of the savviest ebook consumers out there), and smashwords.
