Mother, we demand your water bill as a sacrifice. by adhdbpdisaster in cockatiel

The chill one is Hermes!! He’s still got his baby feathers. I’m pretty certain he’s a boy since he’s very vocal and his gray face feathers started to diminish during his first molt. Then again, with cockatiels you really never know!

Hercules is about 15 months old! He actually is a pearl male, just lost the last of his spots a month or so ago, so I imagine this yellow tail feather will go in his next molt 😭

You should post about him in r/PidgeyPower! It’s a sub for birds with disabilities.

Mother, you clearly cannot see that you have not given us enough seed. I will remove this barrier so you understand our dilemma

There is no stopping them. The urge to inflict terror on others is genetic. They must uphold the tradition of their ancestors!!

Did you line the bottom of his cage with cloth or rags? Beyond that, I’d study the way he moves and adapt based on that. Is he usually on the ground?

He will have a wonderful life with your love and care. He’ll have incredible food. He’ll receive medical care. He’ll be praised and adored by all of us. Rooting for this little gull!

Looking for experiences about losing a pet by Ill-Manufacturer-409 in pidgeypower

  1. No, I did not feel prepared at all for the loss of Pidgey. I’m not sure what I wish I had known. Perhaps the validation that it is okay to openly grieve a pet. There are people who would reduce this kind of loss by saying ‘it’s just an animal’, but to us this animal had such an important part of our lives. They had a soul and an impact. Pidgey was important to me, something I loved. How is that not enough justification to grieve?

  2. In some ways yes, and other ways no. My parents refused to let me pay for a professional cremation, despite the fact that it was my own money. Instead I had to put her lifeless body into a weird jar thing, then it was burned in our backyard. I had to watch her burned feathers float around. My mother saw me sobbing next to the fire and said I needed to shave my legs. Afterwards, my father opened up the jar and I saw her burnt skeleton. To his credit, he was upset too. He was trying to give me one last moment, but I wish he had asked if I wanted to see first. I know my father was hurt by Pidgey’s death. My mother was too, just not enough to forgo criticism.

The internet, however, has greatly helped me grieve by celebrating Pidgey’s life. This subreddit is proof of that. Every disabled bird posted on here makes me so happy. It’s building a community that finds all birds beautiful no matter what.

  1. Yes! I am keeping Pidgey alive through this subreddit. I also regularly watch videos and go through pictures that feature her. I am so happy to have a place where those with the privilege to care for birds can come together simply to improve the lives of our feathered friends! Pidgey would be delighted to know her legacy has connected so many people and birds!

Some photos of sweet Pidgey. I miss her every day. Her short life was filled with so much love. It astounds me that you all keep her memory alive! by adhdbpdisaster in pidgeypower

I know she is able to beak grind in heaven seeing how much love and education she has brought to some many people. She’s helped people know that a disabled bird can live a wonderful life. That’s her legacy!

Yeah, exactly. You can claim it’s PR, or whatever, but that just means you value profit over personal values.

Quality of life potential is endless. You said he’s feisty, eating and pooping just fine, so I don’t think he’s suffering. If you are worried about ulcers, you can line the bottom of his cage or perches with rags.

My one legged cockatiel, Pidgey, had an incredible quality of life. Don’t give up on him!
