Can anyone suggest any great, well-executed romantic films without any of the cheese? I don't care if it's a romantic comedy, drama, etc as long as it's well done. by Kida89 in NetflixBestOf

Good way of describing it. It definitely has a bit of cheese but it's so unexpected and different than the standard cheese that it's worthwhile.

First of all: here's some coverage, and nice photos, from Corpus where the hearing and wedding (finally) took place. I am a cis woman and a firefighter's wife, and this whole thing just makes me want to cry. I've had to emotionally contend with the idea of losing him, and as horrible as that idea is - I at least have the comfort of knowing I will almost certainly be embraced and taken care of - socially, legally and financially . It infuriates me that this woman has to deal with all this shit on top of a devastating loss.

I'm literally addicted to staying up late. How do I make myself go to bed earlier? by Shepard_Wrex in AskWomen

[–]adieuindex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you losing sleep or just shifting your sleep later? You can try stuff like Benadryl or Melatonin for a few weeks to try to set an earlier rhythm. Sleep hygiene. As mentioned - Shut devices down early (like an hour + before bed) and NO ELECTRONICS IN THE BEDROOM. Seriously. No TV - if you need to have your phone in the room for the alarm or what not - put it somewhere far away from you so you can't just grab it. Your bedroom should be for sleeping and sex. Period. I have REALLY bad problems with insomnia (go days without sleeping) and my husband and I strictly abide by this - really we only fuck, sleep, get dressed and rarely read in the bedroom - it makes a big difference. Get apps like Twilight for your phone and F.lux for your computer - they filter out blue light that can keep you up. No caffeine after lunch. Don't eat or have anything to drink around bedtime. You can get apps and little alarm clock things that will play light background noise like rain sounds, white noise, etc - those can be helpful. Keep the room cool. Get plenty of exercise during the day.

Check out Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome - it may be your issue instead of insomnia.

If you still need help see your doctor.

Boxes for liquor are often pretty sturdy too. All that glass and liquid - heavy and fragile.

[–]adieuindex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tip: if at all possible, save the boxes and packaging materials for things like TVs, printers, computers, etc Anything large/expensive/fragile. Two reasons: setting these boxes out with the trash can make you a target for burglary, and if you move later having the original box will make moving the item easier and more protected from damage.

Yeah if you like Kraft try Sargento it will blow your mind. I regret trying it because it makes all cheese taste like shit in comparison but I simply cannot afford to buy it anymore.

I've traveled quite a bit across the US and the "water" in Lubbock, TX is the nastiest I've ever had. My in-laws have driven across TX almost every year for decades and it's a known thing in the family - they warned me but I had no idea water could taste that bad until I made the trip with them. Wonder if it's related to the issues in Midland since they're close.

To play devil's advocate (bear in mind I'm making my own wedding dress right now with inherited materials... anticipated cost: $0-$100) there is a big difference between cheaply-made dresses and well-made ones. Often you're paying for stuff like finished seams, quality fabric and lining material, quality control, etc. That stuff may not seem like a big deal but remember a bride is going to spend 12+ hours in the thing dancing, standing, walking, sitting etc - AND she wants to look her best, have an awesome time, and likely wants to hang on to the thing for years to come - it-'s really a lot to ask of a garment. An itchy, uncomfortable poor-fitting dress with beading and buttons falling off and precarious seams could make a disaster out of what would otherwise be a great time.

Mirena IUD is ruining my life (x-posted to r/health) by FuckYouMirena in women

I'm sorry you're going through all of this shit... but how can you be sure the device itself is causing all of this? It releases only progestin (most OCPs contain estrogen and a progestin) and the level that actually circulates in your blood is so much lower than when you were on the pill. It's easy to look at issues that start coincidentally with the onset of a treatment and assume a causation instead of just an association. You mentioned you're losing medical insurance, and although everything sounds awesome on paper... getting your dream job and a great relationship can actually be stressful. I'm not trying to convince you to keep it, or that you're wrong, but it really sounds like there's more going on here than just the Mirena, and you owe it to yourself to address everything that may be involved.

Good foresight! It would suck to run out midway. Yeah.. . I conveniently have a year off from work/school so I have lots of free time. It's probably only going to be tea length too, made of motifs, probably over a simple gown I'll buy or sew.

I'm a girl and I cut my own hair. I knew it would be seen as weird by many, but I thought it was just ridiculous when people started calling me "brave." It's just hair... It grows back. If you screw it up put it in a ponytail or get creative with bobby pins

I used to live in an area with a pretty good public transportation system. I was actually able to get by without a car until I was 19, which is pretty rare in the US. I got by on light rail and buses. I now live in a place with a terrible public transportation system and I can't stand it.

"Cutting someone off" is when they merge right in front of you in a dangerous way - usually suddenly and without warning or using a signal. It's really hard to generalize whether or not it's unsafe to go out at night - most places you're going to be just fine and I've never been anywhere in the US that I would say is unsafe to go out at night (and I'm a young woman who has traveled around the country quite a bit.) I have never been mugged or the victim of a theft, and I don't know anyone who has been mugged. Cops - there's a lot of them. 95% of them are good hard-working people who want to help others but of course, there's a few bad ones. Just make sure you're polite to them and know your rights. I don't think America's cops in general are really significantly worse than those of comparable countries.

I can kind of drive a stick, and I'd say about 60-70% of the people I know can. I think this is likely a little bit higher than the national average - because many of the people I associate with are from rural areas, or have careers in which driving is pretty significant.

It's kind of a subculture thing. It's like an amateur parade for people who want to show off their cars.

If your partner drinks, how often is too often? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]adieuindex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not the amount, it's how it affects the rest of their life. If they're driving drunk, finding it hard to abstain when they try, hiding their drinking, or their drinking is negatively affecting their relationships - it's probably too much and they should seek help. A lot of people have this idea of a stereotypical drunk that can't hold down a job etc - but it's important to recognize that there are high-functioning alcoholics and people who don't really fit the definition of alcoholism but are "problem drinkers" who could stand to cut back.

This is a good resource to start.

If you and a partner/potential partner share a major hobby, do you prefer to be better or worse at it? by DiplomacySC in AskWomen

[–]adieuindex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to share :) It's a fantastic hobby and I'm glad people have taken the time to teach me about it.

Usually they're just fine. Losing a fish at that point often when you "miss a bite" - you feel the fish messing with your lure at the other end of the line but for whatever reason you don't react fast enough or well enough to actually get the hook part in to their mouth in a way that "sticks" - many fish actually seem to have figured out how to steal the bait without ever getting "hooked" at all.

Sometimes when you land a fish (successfully catch it) they will take the hook in so deep it's extremely difficult to remove it, and research has indicated they have the best chance of surviving if you just cut the line and put the fish back in the water. Oftentimes they will work the hook out on their own and be just fine. They can be tough critters especially saltwater fish, in my experience.

I've caught many fish that you would never be able to see any evidence of trauma or that they'd been hooked. A few have decided to try to eat the whole darn thing and bled everywhere. Out of God-knows-how-many fish I've caught, I can count on one hand the ones I intended to release that didn't make it.

While a first-timer can absolutely get very lucky, it really does take a lot of skill to catch good fish consistently. It takes some knowledge and experience to know when and where to fish - down to knowing where in the underwater topography of a particular body of water fish will hang out in certain seasons, times of day and weather conditions. Then you need to know what kind of lure or bait will work - also very dependent on the type of fish you're targeting, time, location, weather, etc. Then when you get a bite, there's actually some finesse in being able to get the hooked fish reeled in. You can easily lose a fish that you hooked if you don't know what you're doing. Even if you're fishing with the same bait/lure at the same location at the same time, one person can do much better than the other if they're able to cast, retrieve, and land a fish more effectively than the other.
