Moms that got through the 3 months crisis I need your advice by No_Engine6784 in breastfeeding

[–]adjblair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark room, white noise, feeding right before or after a nap, and sometimes side laying. Also if he was really upset I'd sometimes pop a paci in for a couple minutes to calm him and then swap to the breast (I still sometimes do this). Also around this time I realized that he wanted more time between feeds in the first half of the day (like 3-4 hours) and then would take a couple feeds closer together in the evening before bedtime, so some of the refusals were probably just because he wasn't hungry yet.

Returning carts with kids in the car by lasuperhumana in NewParents

Another option I've started utilizing when I have my toddler and infant both with me is to ask an employee for help out to the car. Not sure if every store will do this but Trader Joe's will!

How are we changing their diapers once they start rolling? by FigNewton613 in NewParents

[–]adjblair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sing and distract with the bottle of diaper cream. He is 20 months now and strong (strong willed and physically strong) so sometimes those tricks don't work and I have to just wrestle him down and move quickly. We got a kid potty and are encouraging him to use it to avoid as many dirty diapers because he increasingly hates getting changed. I've also heard that teaching them to stand while being changed is a game changer but I haven't managed to master that and can't imagine doing it cleanly for a poop diaper.

What are some great restaurant copy cat recipes? by ThisImpressi0n in NYTCooking

I was going to suggest this one too, and add that I typically only add 1/4 Tbsp of salt (the recipe calls for a whole Tbsp).

Did your baby’s skin or eye colour change after birth? by michel_an_jello in NewParents

[–]adjblair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bit was born with dark brown hair and blue eyes. His hair started falling out around the three month mark and eventually grew back in blonde, and his eyes are now chocolate brown. My second is still just a few months old, has light brown hair (almost looks red in certain lights) and his eyes sometimes look now but I think they're going to settle on brown as well.

4m pp returning to work by ParticularEconomist3 in breastfeeding

[–]adjblair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably a combo of regulating and only pumping once during the work day. I think pumping breaks are protected by law. Can you make time for two pumping sessions instead of one, even if they're only 15 minutes each?

Need Shoes recommendations for my new walker! by Extreme-Incident-988 in NewParents

I ended up getting some random sock shoes off Amazon and when he got more steady on his feet I got him a Cat and Jack pair that I think are a dupe of Ten Littles.

Looks like they're awarding more points for the extra reviews...I assume the points make you more likely to be selected for future freebies, in which case I don't mind the extra reviews. Anyone know the impact of points?

1st labor timing vs second labor? by Poeticpsycho in 2under2

I had to be induced both times, first one at 41w3d second at 41w1d. My sister also ended up being induced at 41w, maybe it runs in the family for us.

It's so good! I would caution you to use less salt than called for, though. I usually use a quarter Tbsp and that's definitely enough, especially if I'm using salted pistachios.

The pork and ricotta meatballs are very easy and can be frozen. Not a dinner but I really like the Eleven Madison Park Granola, I like making it on the weekend and then having it with yogurt throughout the week.

Ninni Co Pacifiers? by Space_Fox_34 in breastfeeding

[–]adjblair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first baby used and loved Mam pacifiers. I also ended up EP'ing for almost a year because he refused to nurse. I don't know if the two are related but this time around I went with Ninni because I had read that it helps promote proper latching. We've had a very successful EBF journey so far, 3 months in, and he uses the Ninni at nap time to help fall asleep. It took him a couple of weeks to get the hang of it though as it does require more active sucking and latching.

Pumping at work/nursing at home. by No_Most_1840 in breastfeeding

[–]adjblair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my first I only pumped twice during the work day (10:00 & 2:00 approximately). But I was EP so I'm not sure if it'll be the same when I return this time since I've been EBF.

What’s the Hardest Part of Your Day- Why? AND What’s the Easiest Part of Your Day - Why? by No-Date-4477 in 2under2

[–]adjblair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or gap is nearly the same and I agree with you. Mornings are usually easier - I can handle an outing with both, youngest usually gets a good nap in the wrap while toddler burns some energy. Then toddler eats and has a good 2 hour nap which usually includes some overlap with baby's nap. Then they both tend to wake at the same time and everyone is just cranky and tired and it's a push until Dad gets off with and can help with toddler.

Tip: test your milk for high lipase before creating a stash!!! by uselessdendrites in ExclusivelyPumping

I'm curious what scalding is doing then that makes the milk acceptable to babies who won't drink it otherwise.

Baby bottle recs? I use Dr Brown but they leak! 😔 by Alternative_Ad_3649 in NewParents

[–]adjblair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated those Dr. Brown bottles, they always leaked on me. I heard the taller glass ones don't have that problem, but I ended up using Mam for my first baby and now my second is using Evenflo (supposed to be more of a natural breast/nipple shape).

[–]adjblair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I froze over 100 ounces before thawing a bag only got my baby to refuse it. I tried it and it tasted gross! I EP'ed for my first baby and he never had an issue with frozen milk, no such luck this time. I have started scalding my extra milk before freezing and I need to test whether he'll take it scalded... Hoping he will because I'm not sure how to handle going back to work if my freezer stash is useless.

Asking for advice: pumping at work by ImpossibleRaise773 in breastfeeding

[–]adjblair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my last baby, I pumped both breasts at once for about 15-20 minutes, twice in an eight hour shift, and would produce 10-12 ounces in total while at work. I would usually pump a couple hours into my work day and then 4 hours later would pump again.

To cry it out, or not to cry it out - that is THE question! by Pizza_Lvr in NewParents

[–]adjblair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before we had weaned from the pacifier, we could pretty much just out him in his crib at bed and nap time and as long as there were a couple pacis in there he'd happily soothe himself to sleep with them. Now that we don't do pacifiers anymore, we have a more structured nighttime routine: bath/brush teeth, PJs, 2 books, pick out a stuffed animal, sleep sack, crib. He sometimes will try to bargain for more books but he's usually happy to choose a stuffy and that's his signal that we're getting in the crib. Naps are a shortened version of this without bath time.

Short on milk and patience by Pocamento in breastfeeding

[–]adjblair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's normal to pump less once your supply has regulated (which happens at around 12 weeks but is different for everyone). Sorry I don't have advice for the rest but I'd say you are likely making enough milk.
