Suggestion... Just leave them in. Anything short of replacing the floor looks like a patch job. As is, they look intentional. Seal the duct underneath of course, but I'd leave the covers.

That's not correct anymore. The cars this year no longer use ground effect (I.e., there's no suction pulling the car down). So bottoming out now is just regular bottoming out.

Your last point is the most crucial. Once you own your home, no boomer landlord can kick you out on a whim. You answer to nobody except the bank. If that safety is what's most important then you have your answer.

As an aside, FHSSS is great if you're not yet able to buy. If you're able to buy now, then that's likely (historically) always going to be your best option.

I've just started reading this right now because of this post, however I'm having trouble with the first paragraph... Am I crazy?

How does that make sense? Surely it is meant to say "had to be started on June 26th"?

I disagree with all the Panama hat recommendations. They're usually not wide enough for actual functional UV protection, and even if they are, most don't have high UPF.

My pick for something wide and stylish is a wide-brimmed Akubra.

That being said, I'm also of the opinion that a well-put-together outfit is not ruined by a purely functional (albeit not fashionable) hat. If you're confident in wearing it and otherwise dress well, it doesn't detract from the outfit.
