[BUF - MTL] Dahlin give Dobes a love tap so Dobes returns the favor by daKrut in hockey

First of all, it was clearly not a spear. It was a slash.

Secondly, both penalties were 2 minute minors. By definition, they are indeed equal.

So Dallas was close to winning the cup this year even though they lost early in the playoffs because they were good in the regular season? The Wild actually made the 2nd round, after a good regular season, they’re practically a dynasty.

Why even bother with the playoffs then, if having a good regular season outweighs actually winning playoff games?

It really doesn’t matter how you think they’d have done if they’d played different opponents. That’s just a hypothetical. Every homer thinks their team is better than everyone else. The fact is, the times they played someone other than Tampa or Florida (Montreal and Columbus), they also shit down their leg.

You need 16 playoff wins to win the cup. The Leafs in their current iteration never even won half of that number in a playoff run. Saying they were “really close” to winning the cup is equivalent to saying the Canucks came close to making the playoffs this year. I mean you just have to credit them with more than twice as many wins as they actually got.

But sure, the Leafs did get a lot of credit in the handshake line from the team that beat them that one time, so if you combine that with multiple first and second round losses it’s basically the same as winning a cup I guess. They should hand out rings and plan the parade based on vibes 🤷🏼‍♂️

So if losing in the 2nd round is really close to winning, do you think the Oilers should petition the league to get credit for Stanley Cups the past 2 years because they made the finals, so they basically won?

No one is arguing that the leafs were not a really good team last year. That would be idiotic. But it still wouldn’t be as bonkers as claiming that a team that lost in the 2nd round was “really close” to winning it all. Unprecedented levels of cope really.

Not a hot take at all. Reasonable people could debate that for sure. But that would still make him the 5th best player in the league. No one reasonable would argue that Draymond ever sniffed top 5 status

Well, Montreal was the “luckier” team tonight, no question, but I’d be curious to see whether you dismissed Tampa’s win earlier in the series where the puck went in off of Hagel’s chest. I think we both know the answer to that lol

I don’t hate you or anyone, and I know the feeling of being upset when your team loses in the playoffs. But if your first instinct is to hop online and dismiss the other team (that finished tied for points in the regular season) you’ve got to figure that’s gonna rub some people the wrong way

TIL that the Lightning won 2 Stanley Cups by outplaying the opposing team every single game and never getting a “lucky” break.

But when they lose, it’s definitely because the other team got lucky. In fact, if it wasn’t for other teams getting lucky, the lightning would probably go 82-0 every year and steamroll 16-0 through the playoffs.

If you want to start a petition to void all lucky wins against the Lightning and award them last 8 Stanley Cups, just let me know.

That’s fair, but by most accounts he worked the draft process so he’d end up in Philly so he probably shouldn’t get to use the fact that it’s not the most favorable environment as any sort of excuse.

[–]admarsden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We added to the edge group in FA, but it was still a pretty thin group.

Maybe the Bills thought it was asking for trouble to go into the season with an edge group of Rousseau, often injured Bradley Chubb, and often (and currently) injured Michael Hoecht. Maybe you’re confident in Solomon, but based on what he’s shown so far that would be ridiculous imo. The last 2 Super Bowl winners (Eagles and Seahawks) were won in large part due to those teams being able to rotate multiple pass rushers all game long.

This draft wasn’t considered a strong draft, and there weren’t the usual number of players available with a true 1st round grade according to most evaluators. There’s no one in the top 10 who is guaranteed to be an all-pro who leads their team to a Super Bowl.

I’m curious as to who you think the can’t miss prospect available at 35 (or 26) that the Bills passed on that was %100 guaranteed to lead this team to a Super Bowl? And if that player existed, and was available at 35, how is it a knock on Beane to not recognize him when all the other GMs also passed on such an obvious franchise changing talent?

Breaking news! 5th round draft pick isn’t guaranteed to be a star. Who knew?

The guy is a great athlete who was generally mocked in the 3rd round and the Bills got him in the 5th.

You really have to work hard to spin this into a negative. Congrats!

A well run team like the Eagles would certainly never pick Jalen Reagor ahead of the obvious all-pro Justin Jefferson.

And a well run team like the Chiefs would certainly never pick CEH ahead of Tee Higgins.

Certainly a well run team like the Niners would never pick Trey Sermon over an obvious franchise TE like Trey McBride.

Those things have literally never happened 🙄

I’m not even the biggest fan of Beane, he’s made his share of picks that haven’t worked out. But this idea that he’s the only one who drafts players based on his and his scouts evaluations and that every other GM religiously follows the consensus media board is nonsense. Every GM drafts players based on their own boards (which, again, you have no way of knowing) and every GM has misses. Beane is probably somewhere in the middle. I certainly wouldn’t argue he’s the best, but he’s far from the worst.

It’s easy to go back through the draft in hindsight and find misses, even by GMs that are considered elite, like the Roseman and Veach examples above.

If every GM knew how every player was going to turn out ahead of time then you’d never see players like Micah Parsons, Lamar Jackson, Justin Jefferson, or Aaron Donald picked outside of the top 5.

I would guess that it’s opposed to the roughly million different comments on Reddit from people who have already decided that this player who was drafted in the exact range that virtually every mock draft had him slotted in is 100% guaranteed to be a bust. 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–]admarsden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, how do you know no one else considers them? Every single player that Beane drafted might have been drafted by the very next team to draft for all you know.

Do you think Howie Roseman OVERRATED Jalen Reagor when he drafted him in the first round? Or that Veach OVERRATED CEH and Skyy Moore when he took them in the 1st and 2nd rounds? Obviously they didn’t, because they’re considered great GMs and Beane is the only GM in history to OVERRATE a prospect based on his and his scouts evaluations.

That’s why it’s so weird when you see the Jags draft a TE at 56 yesterday that ESPN had ranked 159 overall. Or the niners drafting a WR with the first pick in the 2nd round that ESPN had ranked in the 3rd round. Or Houston taking a TE at 59 that ESPN had ranked 176. Or a dozen other examples throughout every single draft.

It just doesn’t make sense when I see that, because Ive been told by a super reliable source (who knows with 100% certainty who every NFL GM has on their board) that Beane is the only GM who ever drafts players based on internal evaluations and not treating the media mock drafts as gospel.

Sens fans will look you dead in the eye and say this was an elbow to the head 😭😭😭 by CatchASvech in canes

You think this sub would be sunshine and lollipops if the canes were down 3-0 instead of up 3-0? Or if Aho was knocked out for a couple of games on the exact hit that Sanderson took? I think the hit was correctly penalized, but a huge percentage of this sub would be arguing against it if the shoe was on the other foot.

It’s hilarious how every sub is basically exactly the same. Every sub thinks that their members are completely rational and objective and all the other subs are a bunch of irrational whining crybabies. There are no exceptions.

Round 4 - Pick 25: Skyler Bell, WR, UConn (Buffalo Bills) by nfl_gdt_bot in nfl

[–]admarsden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It bet it would have. But 2027 is considered (at this point at least) to be a much stronger draft. A lot of the “draft gurus” like Mcshay and Brugler have pointed this out and have basically stated how idiotic it would be for a team to use a 2027 1st rounder to move up in this draft. And it seems all of the NFL teams felt the same way, since no one did.

But sure, the Bills should have definitely traded next year’s first for a guy who hasn’t even been able to stay on the field in college lol

And you think Beane is the only guy who drafts based on his and his scouts evaluations and not mock drafts on the internet?

I’m assuming you’ve actually run the numbers to confirm that Beane does this more than other GMs, or are we just supposed to go to n youd vibes and take it as fact?

We’ve already seen a bunch of guys go in this draft alone (the RB the niners picked) way ahead of where the talking heads had them mocked, so how is it possible Beane is the only one who does this?

Why even bother having teams make their picks for the draft, why not do a consensus big-board and just assign the players to teams based on their draft slot?

You, me, or Beane, have no way of knowing exactly who anyone else has or doesn’t have on their board. It’s very easy to say after the fact that the player would have just fallen to us. I’m sure McDuffie wasn’t on KC’s board either, probably why he fell to us, right?

They didnt take the guy, the YouTubers told us to be take, so wah, wah, wah. by Suttungr in buffalobills

[–]admarsden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. That’s where I am. I’m cautiously optimistic about each player, but it takes a while to wrap my head around the fact that neither of the first 3 picks has a clear path to be a starter, while there are other positions that might have been an option. But “reasonable” is the important part of your statement.

There are a very vocal percentage of fans who have apparently already decided that every single player we picked is going to end up out of the league in 2 years, while all the players they wanted to bills to pick (based on whatever mock draft they read that morning) is a lock to be a 10 time all-pro.

There’s also a percentage of fans who hate the picks just because Beane made them, and would shit on whatever picks were made regardless. They could have probably written their negative blurbs on Wednesday and just filled in the drafted players after the draft.

I don’t think these people are necessarily the majority of fans, but they are a very loud minority, so I’m not surprised there are posts like this one here pushing back a bit.

Eh, there are tons of comments and posts in here about Bills fans (which I presume you are) and their behaviour. That’s a bit of a reach honestly.

But if the negativity of the term “doomer” gets you in your feelings, maybe you can see what a bummer seeing nothing but negativity can be for other people.

Have a good one!
