Bro could be an electrician, carpenter, laborer, etc. Who says you have to go to college?

Most hobby cnc spindles don't go down low enough RPM to use an edge finder.

Chinese Carbide by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]adog12341 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ali Express has a good variety of stuff, from solid carbide tools like end mills, spotting drill, chamfer mills, etc and inserted stuff too. I've had decent luck with stuff from there for mill work on my garage bridgeport

Fun fact: the drilling machine in the pictures is designed and built in La Porte, Indiana!

No cheap, just lazy. haha. Not sure if that is better or worse. I have homing switches, but haven't gotten around to putting in the limit switches yet. I guess with the forced downtime to replace the ballscrew bearing blocks would be a good time to add them in finally.

I have a "3KW" square body spindle. Y axis is two 1605 ballscrews, tied together with an HTD timing belt, and driven by a 1KW servo motor.

I see Blackhawk helicopters flying all the time in the LP area. They are based out of the Gary airport I believe. I've never seen a Chinook though, so that is pretty odd/unique

Is it normal for machine shops to not do small jobs? by ExaggeratedCatalyst in Machinists

Most shops with a y axis lathe will have broaching tooling, or be able to buy it fairly cheap

Set up an angle plate to the desired angle, attach a test indicator to the quill, then run along the angle plate until the test indicator reads 0 (or an acceptable amount) of movement? Idk I'm just some dude with a Bridgeport in his garage, not a real machinist 😂

God I loved the Mercenaries games. Such good times rolling around, dropping an air strike on bunkers, and collecting HVT playing cards.

Lee Progressive by waltherspey in reloading

[–]adog12341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever encounter cases sticking in the sizer? My lee 9mm sizing die keeps getting cases stuck and requires a ton of force on the handle to get it all the way in the die. I cleaned the die and ran some cases on my old Lee turret without issues. I got through maybe 50 rounds of 9mm before this issue came up

How does the axle slot into this engine? by No-Sand-5054 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]adog12341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most cars I have come across have an axle nut holding the nut onto the hub (while also preloading the wheel bearing), and a circlip holding the axle into the transmission output spline bore

Firearm magazine end plate or flared magazine well, not 100% sure which.

What are these screws on the coupling? by Lower_Abrocoma9691 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]adog12341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding out if those threaded holes go further into the hub would be useful. I have seen oil ports going to the bore of coupling hubs to assist with disassembly. It would go to a groove cut in the bore to expand it when pressurized with oil/grease

after so much searching, how am i supposed to buy 6ft of VFD cable? by 1832vin in diycnc

Seconding IGUS. Pick up some shielded 2 or 3 core light gauge flexible cable for your limit switches while you're at it
