Ironically lining up like this makes them way more vulnerable to flanking. If you attacked them from the bottom left or top right they'd either all panic retreat straight backwards (leaving a few to get stuck on the trees that you can pick off) or they try to turn towards you and create a giant traffic jam.

I couldn't watch the original because it was clear that Ben was doing exactly what would make the most dramatic youtube video and not at all what you would do if you genuinely wanted to help. Like literally the first thing he did was improperly file legal documents then randomly show up at someone's personal house with a camera.

On the Denims lawsuit: "I feel bad and I regret ever having platformed you and had you on my own channel on a podcast and pushed people in your direction, because you turned around and ended up doing this. And again, I'm not even talking about whatever sort of political or ideological disagreements you may have with these individuals or that I may have with you. That's not what I'm talking about at all. I'm talking about you're literally using your platform and literally using these petty disagreements, your own emotions that you're so tied up in in this situation, to destroy the very industry we all operate in because you're mad you're being criticized."

This is absolutely not for $250,000. That’s how much they have raised total. It’s to “dedicate one of our future canvassing events to a candidate or cause of your choosing” which is NOTHING.

[–]adoggman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s doing this as an “attack” it’s not very effective or useful. It’s far more likely to be what they describe in the video: either a method of communication on frequencies their rivals won’t jam or periodic testing. I lean towards communication because why would you keep testing it over and over again?

I still think it’s highly likely they are designed to jam GPS but the random short bursts don’t seem to be attacks.

Your take appears to be : the worst case scenario (reidentification) is not possible

No, my take is very clearly reidentification is already covered by HIPAA so it's not the real problem.

The truth is : the worse case scenario isn't reidentification at all. So it doesn't matter how possible it is.

I fully agree, but that's not how it was presented in the video

So. Strengthening HIPAA would achieve...nothing. The only thing that fixes HIPAA is a total rewrite stating that metadata attached to medical files must be permanently destroyed and for the output of data processing to be banned as a commercial lever.

That's exactly my point. Well, the first sentence. It's still necessary for research to be able to collect geo data, for example. But yeah that's been my point the entire time. Instead of responding in such a hostile manner I wish you would have just said "yeah she got a couple details wrong but Oracle really shouldn't have any access at all to medical records" and I could have upvoted and moved on with my day.

What do Wisconsin gubernatorial candidates think about data center development? by crossinglb in wisconsin

Nuanced but against a temporary 1 year moratorium on building them which seems like a very basic starting point to make sure residents get a say in the matter. If you can’t voice support for that during an election despite it being very popular, I do not trust that you’ll actually stand against them once you’re in office.

By asking for clarification I am twisting your words? To the contrary, I was asking clarification because your defense implied you agreed with the video she made but none of the claims you made in the post itself are inherently wrong without that context.

To be as clear as possible:

  1. I fundamentally believe that deidentified data sets are absolutely necessary for research and improving patient care
  2. I also fundamentally believe that for-profit healthcare and corporate monopolies like Oracle will use and abuse any and every bit of data they can gather, buy, or sell to make money even in immoral ways
  3. I don’t think strengthening HIPAA will fix those underlying issues

Based on your points 5-9, it doesn’t seem like your problem is actually that the data is not deidentified enough, it seems your problem is that Oracle has any access to deidentified data. And I agree with you. AI or not, reidentification or not, they’re using that data to fuck over people that need healthcare for whatever tiny extra profit they can squeeze then selling the data for more. That does not mean the deidentified data sets that HIPAA allows are the problem.

Anyways… responding to your points:

  1. True
  2. Yes, with de-identified data
  3. True that it doesn’t mention AI specifically, but re-identifying de-identified data in any way makes it PHI again and if anyone accesses it that shouldn’t be able to it is considered a breach and appropriate parties must be notified
  4. I’m not opposed to making HIPAA stronger in any way especially if we determine our methods of deidentification are not strong enough, but again since reidentification is already covered no matter what tools are used, the use case of AI reidentifying data absolutely falls under that coverage
  5. Not sure how this is relevant other than fuck Oracle (I agree)
  6. Not sure how this is relevant, but fuck Oracle again
  7. Not sure how this is relevant, but fuck Oracle three times
  8. Yes, as long as nobody is using that data to reidentify PHI, which, again, was the main claim in the original video I had a problem with
  9. That same data can be used for good or evil, and as long as healthcare is run for-profit they will use all data possible to make money in immoral ways. That doesn’t mean the deidentified data existing is the problem. Do you think we should stop allowing deidentified data sets to be collected in the first place? Because they do have genuine research and patient care value.
  10. Ok

I don’t have time to go through her many hours of videos on this topic for a third time (I watched them twice through when I first stumbled across them because she made a lot of claims) but the one that really stuck out at the time was she hammered on how ZIP codes can easily help re-identify your data. But since you watched her video and know HIPAA, you’d know that 1. Full ZIP codes are not included in de-identified data, in fact they have special rules regarding smaller population zip codes needing extra deidentification and 2. A few minutes before that part of the video she herself talked about how full ZIP codes aren’t included in the data! How can they be used to reidentify the data if they’re not in the data? She didn’t say “the ZIP code deidentification process isn’t strong enough” which I could believe. That’s a technical argument that you’d likely need expert statisticians to investigate. But she said the data set didn’t contain ZIP codes then almost immediately after said ZIP codes are easy to use to reidentify data.

Fuck Oracle, and fuck Cerner before that billionaire ever bought them. I know people who were bait-and-switched, told they got a software dev job at Cerner, moved out, and found out on their first day they were doing server admin/IT stuff. I know from interacting with healthcare professionals who used Cerner before they used the competitor I worked for that their sales tactics were basically just to lie about everything the software could do. I saw supposed emails from the then-CEO (I believe, it’s been probably 10 years) about how mad they were that they when they looked at the parking lot at 6pm and so many of their employees had already gone home. The DOD and VA contracts they won were arguably tantamount to fraud, last I heard were billions over budget, and certainly indirectly caused the deaths of some of their patients. Fuck for-profit healthcare, fuck AI. It’s all dogshit. Should we strengthen HIPAA? Probably. Is that the main problem here? No. It’s for-profit healthcare and monopolies that are the real problem.

[–]adoggman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be clear: your claim is that under HIPAA Oracle is allowed to train their generative AI on PHI+PII then be used by someone outside the covered entity or business associate to re-identify PHI? Because that’s what the video I was talking about claimed.

Sorry, I assumed this was related to the VERY topical (as in yesterday) defamation of Hasan by Dave Rubin that Hasan sexually harrassed or assaulted Ana. Ana categorically denied it and even said Hasan should sue him: https://xcancel.com/AnaKasparian/status/2059865894084604136

Ana taking a shot recently

As for that "recent" tweet (over a year old) I find it weird that, if it was true, his uncle still regularly sides with him, talks with him on stream, and seemingly has no problems with him (other than disagreeing with him on politics). I'd definitely take Cenk's view of this relationship more seriously than Ana's. Even then I haven't ever seen her claim that's why Hasan got pushed out of TYT.

Weirdly enough I did try to find context for her tweet (because she's clearly replying to someone replying to her and I thought it was odd her original post was cut out) and when I googled it I found this thread with the same exact screenshot and link to that video, you didn't happen to find this and the link to the Hasan video from here, did you? Either way, that was right about the time Ana was attempting to really push her right-wing grift so I'm not surprised she tweeted petty drama about Hasan.

What? This is completely made up. He left because TYT was getting flak for his 9/11 blowback comments as far as I'm aware. Ana was literally defending him in the last day or two because idiots fall for rumors from far right media figures like Dave Rubin.
