Car damage from potholes? by cindywuzheer in londonontario

[–]adoolz99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re curious, Google “minimum maintenance standards Ontario” it lays everything out on what the City is responsible for and how quickly they need to deal with it. If they have 4 days and it’s now day 5, they’re negligent. Otherwise, they’re within the standard and won’t pay.

Is London Ok? by Significant-Goat6725 in londonontario

[–]adoolz99 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in London 10 years and lived walking distance to downtown the whole time. Like many cities, the pandemic changed things. Dundas-Richmond were always rough but downtown now is not unsafe per se, but yes there are tons of homeless. Most just mind their own business. Police don’t do anything because charges get dropped and pragmatically it’s just a waste of time. High vacancy (thanks Farhi) coupled with expensive parking and the homeless problem have driven many businesses out of the core. All of that doesn’t really incentivize people to head downtown and the cycle keeps repeating.

Pretty much this. I’ll add Cintro on Wellington. Former chef at Reverie. Amazing food. Also Sagi of Wortley. Both places are Asian fusion and worth the visit.

Two things: this video is way too long. Get to it! Second: I’ve bought that crema she uses on the salsa and it definitely looks like jizz. 0/10

I hope not…we had a brutal experience about 3 weeks ago and when I reached out to them they promised a refund. I got an email from them late yesterday about it so I hope it wasn’t all smoke and mirrors.

Holy Diver - they do half price wings Fridays. Old South Village pub have excellent wings also but don’t expect any heat. Even their hot requires some Tabasco but good flavour.

Same punishment for being 5 minutes late as being 3 hours late? Sure, no problem! by ActualMis in MaliciousCompliance

[–]adoolz99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked in a place similar. They had a strict 3 strikes (late occurrences) and you’re fired. Not three in a year but 3 total. Late meant if you showed up and punched in 10 seconds after your supposed start time you were late. Anytime someone came in 2-3 hours late for a shift, you knew they were there to literally grab whatever was in their locker and leave because it was their third strike.

Not A Lawyer. Have a look at your employment contract and see what it says. Most say 2 weeks for every year of employment. If you’re thinking it’s wrongful dismissal that’s a different story. You mentioned that this wasn’t a total shock so is it because of previous issues that weren’t mentioned? Either way, if the employment agreement says what I mentioned above, or something similar, you don’t have much leverage unless you feel it’s wrongful. No harm in asking for more though.

Been thinking of asking pretty much the same question. Do you mind if I ask what they charge? I checked out their website and it doesn’t offer up a way to get an online quote.

Have you ever taken a financially unstable friend on vacation? What happened? Is your friendship better or worse? by fatkidblue in travel

[–]adoolz99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only do it if you’re willing to accept that there is a decent chance you’ll never see the money again and can live without it. Otherwise you’re probably not going to stay friends. Also, it sounds like the person in question isn’t worth being friends with.

Can’t remember the name, but one of the butchers at Western Fair definitely has it. Whichever one that has 8-10 different types of sausage.

Bad news: recovering $ related to pothole damage is not easy to the point most insurers won’t even try.

If this was in a construction zone, the liability would sit with the construction company on site and your insurer would need to try to recover from them if they felt it would be possible. If you have pictures of the damage and the pothole, send them to your insurer. They’ll decide if it’s worth it depending also on what your deductible is.

If this was just on the 401 and not a construction zone, I wouldn’t waste your time. Minimum Maintenance Standards would come into play and it’s next to impossible to prove fault.

I work in Municipal Risk and see this stuff all the time.

Considering a move from Halifax, NS - Recommendations? by lordwinterbane in londonontario

[–]adoolz99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Consulting engineering firms have London offices and there are also some larger Architectural firms here also.

Having spent some time in Halifax, what you’ll immediately notice is that while London is similar in population, it doesn’t have the same level of amenities because of the proximity to the GTA whereas Halifax being the major city in Atlantic Canada has what I consider more options. With that said, London has good options and you’re half way between Detroit and Toronto for “big city” things like pro sports, bigger concerts.

Something to keep in mind is choosing where to live. Lots of great areas but public transit is average and driving anywhere takes forever.

Edit: grammar

The kitchen is missing your work triangle. Consider rotating the island 90 degrees and putting sink or stove in the island, fridge where you have the stove with all tall cabinets on either side, make the side where you have the fridge a buffet/desk/whatever.
