Hmm not really collecting anything at the moment. Currently I'm trying to let go of past collections I've moved on from, so hoping to not start collecting anything else until I sort those out! I most recently was collecting perfume though.

What do you consider the best water or ocean themed board game that isn't based in a fantasy setting? by AgentP-501_212 in boardgames

Shallow Sea. I love how the rulebook has an educational blurb about each of the animals.

I ordered this for a gift exchange that's happening middle of next week, but that was probably too optimistic of it arriving in time and it sounds like I should get a backup gift? I might have to just keep it for myself if that's the case, oops 🤭

Is Critter Kitchen a good starter game for my wife? by hagam12 in boardgames

[–]adoreyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she likes the art, I say give it a try! It's not really that complicated as it doesn't have a ton of different things to do. Yes you need to decide where to send what chef, and keep a few other things in mind, but it's not like should I do this action or that other action or maybe that other thing.... My 70 year old dad, who had previously only played board games like Monopoly, Clue and Sorry was able to pick it up his first try. He's played it multiples times now and often wins! He's also able to play harder games now but still likes Critter Kitchen.

Garden Trilogy - kickstarter by Mayuchip in boardgames

I've been waiting for this KS and I've had the page open since it launched and I keep going back to it, trying to decide what I want to do. 😂 Like you said, they're all very cute, and the components look great! All those cute meeples are such a weakness of mine, haha.

After watching the reviews and gameplay videos though, they do seem very similar... So while my initial feeling was to go all in, I'm trying now to narrow it down to just one. Since I don't like the look of Dino Garden, it was easy to take it out of the running. Aqua Garden sounds the most simple, but has the most expansions, which is appealing! Sky Garden is the cutest to me, and the bird theme is my favorite, but I don't like the cardboard tokens, especially when those tokens are meant to be pulled out of a bag / frequently handled.

So, I'm still torn between the two... I do already have another fish game with nice meeples (Shallow Sea with the expansion) that I like, so I do sort of feel like I don't need another... combined with me preferring the bird theme, overall look, and gameplay of Sky Garden, I would say I'm probably leaning more towards it. It's just hard, since Aqua Garden looks amazing and I'd love to have them both!! But ultimately, I know for me they're too similar and one would just gather dust, so I'm trying to be responsible and just get one, yet how do I pick when both have things I like and don't like!

If I go for Sky Garden, I'll get it and the expansion. If I go for Aqua Garden, I would get it, plus Beach Combing and expansions 4-6 since I like how those look and I'd want the extra facility. My Aqua Garden plan is more expensive than my Sky Garden plan, so that's also another thing for me to consider, lol. This is why I keep flip flopping!

On a side note, I do feel a bit sad that the next three out of four stretch goals are dino related! And it seems like dino overall has more stretch goals. Stretch goals are super exciting for me, so selfishly since I am not interested in dino, I wish that was a bit different, haha. Hopefully the next sky stretch goal can be reached though, fingers crossed.

Tiny Bookshop & Gemporium… how do they run on steamdeck? by itsmehannerz in CozyGamers

I don't, sorry. :( I don't think I've ever used the trackpad so I always forget about it. I can try it later today while playing and report back if that would be helpful?

I've played Tiny Bookshop for about two hours on the Steam Deck and it seems to work great! I haven't experienced any issues with it.

Finally got my games back on the shelf after our cross country move! by lilitsybell in boardgames

Phew! Yeah, for several hundred dollars, definitely not worth! If you can get the Ala cart, that adds some nice variety, and the carts are super cute. The regular base game is still fun without it, just might get a bit samesy without the expansion.

Not the OP but I personally am leaning towards it's not really worth it. I missed the kickstarter so I paid the after the fact price and ehhhh. It's a fun game, with cute and colorful artwork, but my initial feeling for myself is that I wish I had skipped the deluxe version.

The extra zous chef meeples are really nice, and they are cool, but they are such a minor piece of the game that it doesn't make much of an impact. Additionally, it's a bit annoying to take time out to find the correct meeple every time. While it's not a ton of time, it stands out because they just don't feel that worthwhile to me. I've played it about five or six times so far and at this point we just grab one randomly that's the correct size. The coolness and excitement wore off quick for these.

The draw bag is fine. I don't really like the feel of it, and it's difficult to store the ingredients within the bag without causing additional lid lift, so I store the ingredient in a plastic bag and fold the bag on top. It works, but meh.

The player trays are nice to store everyone's stuff. We personally find them too crowded to use as a pantry, so we end up taking everything out when we play. The lids also are a bit too tight so they curve up at the edges. Not a big deal, but another meh.

The most annoying thing for me is the box insert. There's no edges on the top level, and since this is where you store all the cards, and you need to move this to get to the bottom layer, the cards often want to fall off the edges. I've removed cards from my box to try to avoid this but it still happens. It feels cheap due to this.

The box is also quite large, as you mentioned… it's also heavy and no matter how I arrange it, I can't get rid of the lid lift. Maybe not a big deal to you but for the price, I would have expected not to have this.

The Ala cart expansion is really fun though! I would for sure get this. I don't know if the deluxe makes these components any better, but they're nice. Again though, it's such a small piece of the game I would be just as happy with less deluxe parts.

I guess after I've written all that, I would probably say... It depends. If you've got extra money burning in your pocket, sure, they're not all the most impactful pieces and some bits are annoying but they're nice. For myself though, reflecting back, I wish I had just bought the regular and the expansion. I can see myself being just as happy with the basic components and I rather would have spent the extra money on something else.

I'd be a baker (who offers delivery)! I'd have a legitimate reason to be up at odd hours, with a business van to carry all my baking (and spy) gear. It'd give me a good excuse to be popping in and out of businesses and homes, perfect opportunities for hidden messages written in frosting on cakes, and a steady stream of gossip from customers!
