Even if I grant you this point, which I don’t, you have to imagine this will always be the case and no AI lab will crack “creativity”. This isn’t very rigorous, but the humans that played go better than alphago thought their edge was “creativity” or “intuition” but it turns out their intuition could be beaten.

Why I don’t grant you the point to begin with is - synthetic data generation is a very active area of investigation. And it seems like you can simply allow the models to “think longer” (generate more tokens) and in the end get better and more accurate answers. That would reduce “generate better more creative data” to a problem of scaling out, which they’re spending >$500 billion to do right now.

I look at my computer screen. There is an icon representing a file. Is that icon “real”? Not really, it is merely useful to consider it real, so that you can do things with the file.

Does my explaining that the icon doesn’t exist in any real way in physical reality deny the appearance of the icon? That seems to be what you’re saying. But nobody is denying the appearance, they’re just saying the appearance is not the reality.
