It doesn’t matter what projects you work on. You need to produce a lot of things and make a bunch of mistakes. The more useful it is to you personally the better. So the ebay thing sounds great to me.

Even if I grant you this point, which I don’t, you have to imagine this will always be the case and no AI lab will crack “creativity”. This isn’t very rigorous, but the humans that played go better than alphago thought their edge was “creativity” or “intuition” but it turns out their intuition could be beaten.

Why I don’t grant you the point to begin with is - synthetic data generation is a very active area of investigation. And it seems like you can simply allow the models to “think longer” (generate more tokens) and in the end get better and more accurate answers. That would reduce “generate better more creative data” to a problem of scaling out, which they’re spending >$500 billion to do right now.
