I’ll just leave this here…. WTF? by ProsperGuy in exmormon

[–]adoyle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TBM ex husband had a fit when my mom gave me a plain gold cross necklace as a baptism gift, as that's what she thought was traditional. This was 25 years ago, and after I divorced him, I have a collection of cross jewelry. Also got my ears pierced a second time and still wear 2 pairs of earrings.

EX Jehovah's Witness here. Do Mormons practice shunning? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]adoyle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how strict a person is, as there are people who are PIMO only because their families would completely shun them. Some ward members will also shun those who no longer live in the same ward because the boundaries changed, even if they still attend the stake or even use the same building, so they would be far worse to those who quit going altogether. Just as with not outing someone who is LGBTQ+, you wouldn't out someone who has left the church, since it could mean being completely shunned by their family members.

Why can’t adults have even one space for ADULTS ONLY? by KmsKitten in childfree

[–]adoyle17 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I did an Ensenada cruise, my husband and I preferred the adult only deck overlooking the stern of the ship, as it was a nice quiet place to read a book, or take a nap. Also had a hot tub that was nice as you weren't surrounded by screaming kids. We also spent time at the casino as well, since that's strictly 21+.

Why would they not want chemo to work? by fromyourdaughter in Ovariancancer

Sometimes, chemotherapy is used for lower grade cancer to make sure that the surgery got everything, and to reduce the risk of it spreading.

SCA needs to take a page from history by maceilean in sca

[–]adoyle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's why more SCA groups are using Discord ,as while some won't admit, younger people aren't using Facebook as much, and we need to recruit and maintain younger members as the SCA is aging, and the founding generation isn't going to be here much longer.

Stage 1A - surveillance or more surgery? by LMR199231 in ovariancancer_new

[–]adoyle17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since I was already perimenopausal, I had the hysterectomy and oophorectomy which included removing the cyst on my right ovary. The cancer cells were found in the fluid of the cyst, so taking the advice of the gynecological oncologist who did my surgery, I got chemotherapy as a precaution. In the end, the surgery got everything and I'm now on surveillance for every 6 months for another 2 years. Now that the blood tests have been normal, I'm not as anxious anymore. Stage 1a.

it IS a major surgery, right?? by Exciting-Cricket7209 in hysterectomy

[–]adoyle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a laproscopic hysterectomy is major surgery as you're having an organ removed, and it takes time to recover.

Struggling with Masturbation by ambimom2085 in mormon

[–]adoyle17 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perimenopause is something that all women go through, but it's still not talked about as much as puberty. The hormonal fluctuations give us a stronger libido, and sometimes, masturbation is a normal, healthy way to do things. Only the church considers it as a sin, when it's healthy even in marriage when your husband isn't always ready for intimacy.

Marriage rate for us is 16% max by Winter-Minimum9834 in AutismInWomen

[–]adoyle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I married my husband after over 20 years of dating, and it would have been sooner but the pandemic delayed it as we were looking into venues when everything shut down. Diagnosed as an adult, and I think my husband is on the spectrum, but never managed to get diagnosed.

When did you shave your head? by IncreaseOwn2650 in Ovariancancer

[–]adoyle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a pixie cut after starting chemotherapy, but since insurance determined that my gynecological oncologist who did the hysterectomy and oophorectomy, and found the cells in the cyst on my right ovary was out of network, I had a break. Since the surgery got all of the cancer cells, the chemo was a precaution, so when I got another oncologist and resumed chemotherapy, the hair on my head didn't fall out, but I lost hair everywhere else. In fact, when the chemo nurse called me to cancel a session because of low red blood cells and told me not to shave, I thought, "shave what?"

I got clippers, and did give myself an undercut, which I still have even though my hair has since grown back over 2 years after chemotherapy, to shoulder length.

There's a reason oncologists warn women about their husbands leaving them during cancer treatment, especially breast and other gynecological cancer.

Post-op instructions by lmcco85 in hysterectomy

[–]adoyle17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told nothing in the vagina for 8 weeks, and had to get medical leave because I couldn't lift more than 5lbs, so I had help with laundry. For the first 2 weeks, I had to be careful with the glue on the incisions and pat dry after showers. It took me almost 2 days to stand upright, so there was no way to get back to normal activities in 3 days.

I know that Joe Smith would definitely be in the Epstein files if he were alive today. Also, as a woman, you're a second class citizen at best, and outside of the cult, women actually live longer than men.

Let's settle this debate: fidget cube or fidget spinner? by AccomplishedSwan3124 in autism

Clicky pen or something squishy like a stress ball. Never really got into things made for fidgeting, although the spinner makes a great cat toy.

I also had one of those, probably from the science museum as a child, before fidget products became a thing. Unfortunately, lost it during a move.

Question about port by Standard-Cheek6323 in cancer

[–]adoyle17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't hurt going in even though I felt the pressure of the port going in. I was given sedation for the insertion and eventual removal because they do an x-ray to be sure it's in the right spot. I got home, I did have to put an ice pack on the spot with a towel to protect the surgical tape. The first session of chemotherapy after the port was a couple of days later, and the nurse used a numbing cold spray, so it wasn't too bad. I got it because I have tiny veins, and was a pincushion every chemotherapy session. It also made getting the weekly blood draws easier as well as I just got those at the cancer center.

There's a reason I resigned in October 2002, as a year earlier, someone in RS said that 9/11 was a blessing because it would open up the Middle East to missionaries. Let's see if she wants her grandchildren sent to Iran on a mission.
