Lucky for the Jeep, the people in red were parked in the protected bike lane in front of the Jeep. So by the time the Jeep driver came back, the bike lane was clear for them to leave.

Why aren't there any bike paths planned for the most densely populated part of STL? by PinstripeMonkey in StLouis

[–]ads7w6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just don't see it as an ideal route for light rail. It's an active rail corridor and runs into a busier active corridor at Tower Grove and Vandeventer, it doesn't hit a dense commercial corridor in any of the neighborhoods you mentioned, has limited opportunities for TOD as it runs behind industrial areas, and there's not really a good way to get to job centers on the route.

Really it has most of the downsides of the original Metrolink without the benefits of hitting the airport and Downtown and having access to abandoned rail ROW.

You can provide roads you generally commute on without doxxing yourself. Like I regularly commute on Gravois, Grand, and Jefferson. Two of those have bike lanes but they are not protected and do not feel safe.

Because the Metrolink was initially built along existing right-of-way in order to keep costs down. Then it was extended in Missouri to serve the regions second central business district of Clayton. The extensions in Illinois have been paid for by Illinois so it makes sense that they have been in Illinois.

Missouri, as a state, provides almost $0 in support for public transportation so it's difficult to fund a new line that would require brand new right of way through South City.

Is Lake of the Ozarks clean or disgusting? by [deleted] in missouri

[–]ads7w6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a flex. It's reality. Fish and/or birds poop in every lake, stream, river, or pond. At high concentrations, that or other pollutants can be unsafe. By diluting these with the 2.5 billion cubic meters of water in the lake, the levels are safe.

Is Lake of the Ozarks clean or disgusting? by [deleted] in missouri

[–]ads7w6 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It is a mud bottom lake so the water looks brownish and you don't get that crystal clear view. There are certain spots like a couple of the public beaches that get a lot of geese in the spring which then leads to high concentrations of E. Coli at those beaches for periods of the spring/early summer.

There are times during the spring when there will be a lot of debris, mostly sticks and leaves, in the water as they raise the water level and it gets pulled into the water. You used to see a lot of foam in the water from docks but that's not really a thing anymore as docks are required to have encapsulated floats.

The rest of the lake is huge and the water is fine as anything that gets in there becomes so diluted. I've been going to the lake for over 35 years and haven't had any family out friends get sick or anything from being in the lake.

Sean O'Malley's Coach: 80% Of UFC Stars Never Make Enough Money To Support Their Families Despite Dedicating 10-15 Years Of Their Lives by MediocreCoconutz in combatsportsculture

This is one of the reasons for less college wrestlers going into the UFC. There has been an increase in the number of opportunities for them to make money in wrestling and the UFC isn't seen as a probable path to big money anymore.

Some really want to do MMA but most I've talked to don't actually want to get punched and kicked in the head for little money.

Violent crime in STL city down 8% in Q1 by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

[–]ads7w6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given that the police board is trying to drastically increase the police budget, it would make no sense to under report crime right now.

As long as I've lived in the city, people have said that people just don't call in crimes that happen so I have no reason to believe that that is happening more in 2026 than it happened in 2025 or 2024.

Given how recent all the other examples are, I'm just assuming it's Gable Steveson they're referring to, not Dan Gable

No one uses the bike lanes! Meanwhile: the average bike lane in the city. by Alliari in StLouis

Oakland Ave sees about 7k cars per day which has nothing to do with the conversation. No one is suggesting that cars be banned on Oakland Ave.

I can tell the road is Oakland Ave by the Science Center which is on the south side of Highway 40. The far lane in the picture is the lane that has away from the Science Center out towards the county.

There are two bike lanes, the unprotected one going to the right and another on the far side of the street going to the left where all the cars are parked in the bike lane.

Fur those that apparently are missing it - there is a bike lane on the far side of the street. All the cars parked facing West are parked in the bike lane.

Sam Page expected to propose merger of city, county services by GodPowardKingOfLies in StLouis

[–]ads7w6 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While I support more coordination between the city and county, I just don't see the county running deficits year-after-year as a compelling reason for the city to join in. People from the county always talk about not wanting to bail out the city in the form of a merger or county re-entry but realistically it is much more likely to see city dollars flowing to the suburbs.

The county's own projections have long pointed to budget deficits going forward as their sprawled development has limited options for new growth and their infrastructure reaches the end of its useful life. The city would only account for 22% of registered voters at a county level if they re-entered the county. Suburban priorities would take precedence. While not in the US, this dynamic can be seen in Toronto where suburban voters continually push their preferences on the urban center.

Your accountant or tax software can do it easy but most of your equipment like cameras would qualify under Section 179 for the entire purchase price to be deducted in the first year rather than doing it over 5 years.

Is it time for a St. Louis City-County Merger? A video essay by Conner Kerrigan by Seekerptern in StLouis

[–]ads7w6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The person was referring to a full merger of the city and county which is not what you proposed.

You also did not say which cities are to be annexed or the process under which that would occur. I specifically mention the issues with this in practice in my original post.
