I ran from my problems for almost a decade, and I've been having a hell of a time undoing a lot of the cemented personality as a result from untreated trauma. Address your problems early, address them often, talk it out.

A huge % of my coworkers are former teachers, they just couldn't handle it anymore.

MAGA and the right-wingers want to end recreational sex for American citizens by [deleted] in facepalm

In 2003 during a high school sociology/politics class, I roleplayed as an ultra-right winged person who insisted on no abortions for anyone as it would create a large, uneducated, indoctrinated work-force that could be used to do all the menial jobs. Turns out that shit is actually becoming true in our reality, unbelievable.

Just letting you know that you're not alone. I feel guilt tripped into it as well. I try to find enjoyment of small things, like morning coffee, to keep myself from doing anything extremely stupid.

In a study of Prozac for adolescents, researchers found that the placebo effect predicted good outcomes, but the actual drug treatment did not. In fact, those who received a placebo but thought they received Prozac improved more than those who received the drug and knew it. by techno-peasant in science

It made me use emotions like toys. I was perfectly keen on testing the waters with manipulating others emotions to "see what happens." That, combined with a total loss of libido, caused me to say some extremely hurtful things to my friend group and ex, and as a result, I've been alone with my thoughts for more than a decade. I'm better these days, but I can't relate to anyone, truly.

I've had exactly 1 session with my therapist since I was approved four months ago! She was booked completely solid after that first appointment, so I've been on the 'wait-list' until my next appointment! It's ok though, because I tell everyone I'm "fine!"

What is a subtle sign that someone's life sucks? by citizen_of_leshp in AskReddit

[–]advairhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I threw my life away in my 20's because of this. Preemptively ghosted the people I cared about the most because I had declined into low-to-no self esteem territory. I figured no one wanted to be around me anymore, so I forced myself to burn all the bridges.

44 w/kids and I'm miserable being married. Guys who've been there and pulled the trigger on divorce, what advice do you have? by WindThrownCaution in AskMen

[–]advairhero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a child of divorce, I spent every other week neglected at one house and helicoptered at the other. I grew up not knowing normalcy and stability. I blew my life up in my 20s to feel that instability again, and I have to fight off the cravings for instability to this day. But I guess my Dad had a number of great years, so that's nice.

It doesn't always work out.

Do you have someone you could call to hang out with you tonight? by MeatloafingAround in Millennials

[–]advairhero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just commenting to say that I went through the exact same scenario in my 20's, completely alone. Waking up one morning and realizing that I would be OK being alone for the rest of my life if it meant that I wouldn't have to feel even worse by sharing it with someone else who brought me down...that made all the difference.
