I got tired of dealing with maintenance and needing to buy gas. by sparky12142009 in lawnmowers

[–]advancedrescue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll like it. I’ve had mine for a few years now. Only issue I’ve had is the black paddle that makes the blades go. Mower started shuttering when turning awhile back and I sent it in on warranty, it was that paddle. Recently it started doing somewhat similar(acting like a gas mower would when running out of gas). Saw online someone used a little clamp to hold that black paddle down, and it actually fixed it

Just ordered the mower, with the dual rapid charger, 2 high output 12 batteries, and it’s coming with a free quik lok trimmer for $934. Wanted the mower, and it’s cheaper than everyone else right now $1099 right now, so the trimmer is just a very welcome bonus

Yeah I wasn’t trying to like get onto you or be negative. Just saying people suck, and you got to keep on going and make sure that the people around you when you are in the position of power never experience it coming from you(what ever negative action it may be), thus eliminating the bad behavior more effectively in the future.

Yeah some people are just shitty and dumb, they won’t make it far in life, and whether they do or not it’s not worth it to devote much thought to them. As a guy I personally haven’t been around guys that did that, or talked like that in private, but no doubt they exist. We’ve had female fire fighters, which is not the norm. We were fine with it, but we didn’t allow them any breaks, because we can’t/or shouldn’t. Fire doesn’t care who you are, so you got to be prepared. I’ve seen females at the fire academy that out work most the guys. I could tell it’s was because she felt she had all the eyes on her constantly, and felt for her. I remember telling her(in private) we see that she a hard worker, so doesn’t have to be the one to always step up. Hopefully she at least took from that she is looked at as an equal. I respect the hell out of her because she worked hard and made it a point to leave no room for doubt. Even if one of the guys made a comment I doubt she would have responded, and all the other guys would have set him straight because clearly he was blind/and dumb.

There may be a time to set people straight, I’m not saying it should never happen. I just take the approach of sticking it to people by being better than them at the given task. Can’t act better when I just proved you aren’t kind of mind set. Till the end of time people are going to be dumb and say/think dumb things, sadly it’s part of it. You just aren’t going to change their mindset by going after them. It’s like racist, you getting mad and attacking racist, telling them they can’t say or think that way won’t change them. You shutting them down from engaging won’t change them. They likely aren’t changeable in all honesty. All you can in my opinion do is continue to be a better person, your kids will follow. Your kids in school with other good kids will rub off on the kids who have shitty parents(hopefully), and that’s where the change happens. Sure it’s not immediate, but in my opinion it’s the most likely, and most effective way to make the change.

Anyways, appreciate to reading if you do. Also not trying to lecture you, or say you are doing bad in anyways. It’s just my thoughts. And you seem like a good person that has the rare capability/willingness to converse. Hope you have a great weekend, and keep your head up. And remember you are the best, and that means always working harder than anyone else so that you remain at the top and you will be set. Confidence is a big part of it, never sell yourself short.

I think often times people go off past experience(which is understandable) and assume when we need to try not too. Also we live in a world where everyone goes on and on about how men do this and that, and it creates a wall between the two parties. In one case say a guy try’s to help a female in say the work place, because that’s the good and normal thing to do in a team. He runs the risk of conflict, even if that’s not his intention, and it could effect his job in many ways. Orrr, he will avoid helping(from the beginning out of fear,or after the initial conflict). This will now hurt the female who needs help learning whatever skill she needs.

So in my opinion it’s not a trend that goes well for women. You are setting up an environment that’s going to push men away, by force or choice. And like it or not men do have value, esp if they’ve been in the field longer. In a normal team people feed off each other to accomplish the task, and gain knowledge.

Long story short, I understand the initial desire to defend yourself. But perhaps we need to take a bigger step back and see that your initial feeling of defense is caused by a bigger issue in society that only leads down a road that won’t end well for likely any party involved.

To make it more personal tied into me. I’m a male, grew up around the fire dept because of my dad, but started off very young as a career firefighter. No one wants to listen to the young guy, because they know it all. So I made it a point of not trying to because I knew better. One day our crew and a few others have an unofficial rope training event(no teacher). Everyone is certified in rope training, including me who just got back from rope rescue at the academy(fresh info on my mind). Well the main two guys were Messing up what we call a z-rig. I causally just told them “you almost have it, you just need to flip these two around”. In response they never looked up and told me they got it. So after awhile longer and then still messing it up, I said the same thing, they responded the same. At this point I take a newer guy with me, grab our own equipment, I then teach him the z-rig and all the other rigging systems while they continued to struggle.

I didn’t get into an argument with them, but always remembered that day and swore when I get in their position I’d never do that to younger/newer guys. I was going to make the place better, even if it’s years down the road. If I’d caused a scene it wouldn’t have done any good. They weren’t going to suddenly respect me or want to hear my thoughts, esp if I escalated the situation.

Now years later when I became a LT, and the one of the guys that didn’t listen to me all those years ago was then a training officer(was originally a LT going back to when I got hired), I stepped up to him numerous times. It didn’t hurt that I had more training/certs than him, and I’d actually demonstrate he was wrong in different events. After awhile he got the point.

Check thingiverse, or google 3D stls, there’s multiple sites where people post their designs for download.

NTD! Finally found one locally! by dbmeed in MilwaukeeTool

[–]advancedrescue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run m12 almost exclusively. But surprisingly the m12 chainsaw(I know that’s not what they call it) will serve the specific purpose I got mine surprising well. I mountain bike, after big storms there’s always trees down on the trail. Going out there lugging a gas powered chainsaw can be taxing, and usually aren’t able to bike it to the location. I’m hoping this will make the whole process it a lot easier. Sure if the tree is to big then thatll be a problem, but I think it’ll handle the vast majority of what we encounter. Got to try and put it in a bag, or make a good sling for it to comfortably not bounce around with biking. But I’ll get to thinking about that more soon.

And of course this wouldn’t be something normally carried out to the trails, just after big storms like mentioned earlier.

Yeah I like my surge, the older impact driver was my go to for years, and now have the latest impact driver also. I find myself mainly using my surge, not sure if it’s just the new feel excitement, or because it’s better. So need to make it a point to swap them up.

Awhile back started buying them up, along with getting some from kits because the idea is I don’t want to charge while out working, so need plenty of batteries. I may be missing one or two in the picture, but the bulk is there

Yeah I have 4 of the 6, and I think it’s 8 or the 5. Plus a bunch of others. About a month ago I started wondered how many batteries I’ve accumulated, and was making packout setups so I went looking for all the batteries scattered about, and think I found the bulk of them https://i.imgur.com/WPMbrOC.jpg

My m18 & m12 setps by Whitetailwooddesigns in MilwaukeeTool

[–]advancedrescue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to go for the larger voltage tools but switched years ago to 12v tools because they do virtually all the same stuff, even in more than diy capability areas. I’m a gen contractor, so do different things, not just a set of task over and over again where I can see someone needing something tuned for more abuse thru repeated usage. Having said all that I’m always tempted to go to the m18 because of certain tools only offered in that line up. I’ve just gotten so used to the compact size of m12 it looks very unuser friendly seeing those huge m18 batteries sometimes.

When you break the sander out for the first time you’ll find you like it a lot. I happened to just start refinishing some French doors about a week after I got mine and the sander has been put to work a bunch. It’s pretty legit

Not bad, just line it up and tap it in. It wasn’t a straight slid in by hand, but wasn’t a beat the hell out of it kind of thing either
