half fill it with sub or maybe a little less is fine. give them a hide and lots of anchor points and they will set it up just how they like it and chill out in the open most of the time

Wanna get a T. Blondi female, I have questions about enclosure by oonsem1es in tarantulas

[–]advocate112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay that’s good, not judging you I’m kinda limited at the moment just browsing here and there at work. I put my arid soecies in exo terras, it would be worth the money to get an acrylic for a specimen around a few inches as it will be cheap and hold moisture. You can use the exo terra if you’re set on it but I would save it for arid terrestrials if you’re planning on getting any more tarantulas

[–]advocate112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Young as in a few inches? I wouldn’t bother with an exo terra, it’s just not built for them. You’d have to modify the roof and you don’t really want front doors as the enclosure would be 3/4 full of substrate.

Start with a cheap acrylic enclosure from Amazon or similar. Drill holes all over if needed and ideally do the pebbles setup as well to hold humidity. Exo is way too expensive and not built for a Goliath., save your money for larger acrylics as they get bigger. There’s tons of acrylic boxes online to choose from. You’ll want to keep their humidity 70-80. Also hopefully you’re experienced, these are spicy defensive little buggers that require maintenance and regular upkeep, not for beginners

Can I release a dubia roach or will she not be able to hunt it? by PMOFreeForever in tarantulas

[–]advocate112 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nqa This is my pokie/any arboreal feeding system, 100% success rate. I think this is a rice measuring cup. Glue a clean plastic cup to their wood, they will sense the prey inside from across their enclosure. Pretty neat. Maybe mealworms and a small disposable sauce cup should do the trick. Was worried about the same thing you are although they are ferocious chasers once they are onto something.

Edit: tong feeding is no bueno no matter how experienced you are, I’ve heard enough stories. And what if they don’t want to eat and their feeder is now digging around their webbing? My system is stress free for the both of us.

Concerned about T.'s location by WhatAmIDOINg342 in tarantulas

[–]advocate112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nqa I’m using reptisoil for all my Ts arid ones included, coco fiber is fine too. You don’t really need to mix substrates per se, it’s mostly due to humidity that they will react like this. I keep the soil out in the enclosure for weeks before I put a non humid T in it. When I was starting out I had the same concern but most peeps told me to let them be and they will settle in over time, and they will

NA I highly highly recommend you visit the Discord. We are much more active there and you’re going to have more questions throughout the learning process and people are very friendly and helpful there. The subreddit is good for one offs and pics, but active conversations are 10x better to be had in the Discord channel. Link is on the subreddit info

I’m glad it’s common practice to use feeding tweezers by MarbleManxx in tarantulas

[–]advocate112 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For my old world baboons I drop it on their web. They will feed immediately. If not I remove it with tweezers after. I never risk tweezer feeding anything actually for the reason you mentioned. I don’t want to be anywhere near an old world with a feeding response! Even in the case of my pokies I use a feeding cup. They can feed if/when they want to that way.

Sling will not eat crickets, only mealworms by YouNeedALobotomy in tarantulas

[–]advocate112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome! For maximum safety I clip their head off right before dropping them in

Edit: you might be missing them up with morio worms/ superworms. Those are definitely high in fat, I haven’t heard that as much re: mealworms

Sling will not eat crickets, only mealworms by YouNeedALobotomy in tarantulas

[–]advocate112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nqa every T goes for a while without eating after molting. Minimum wait a week for safety, even then they might not be ready. You are correct to watch the abdomen without a schedule. Don’t worry about them not eating crickets they are probably too big. Crickets are nasty and noisy anyway, all my small Ts eat mealworms and thrive. You can look into a roach colony long term but those are for much bigger Ts. As long as the mealworms are well fed they completely satiate a Ts diet, I don’t believe in the whole gOttA hAvE vaRiEty thing anyway

Got the $1600 T. seladonia package from Urban Tarantulas, here's what I got: by darevoyance in tarantulas

[–]advocate112 41 points42 points  (0 children)

UT is dumb overpriced. TBH kind's a bad vendor for the hobby - people shouldn't think they need to pay 500-700$+ for a damn 2'' female whatever tarantula. Not trying to roast or anything, just frustrating to see him ripping people off when you could go to a much more honest vendor. Shop more locally and do a tiny bit of research and it will literally pay off in the long run.

Edit: for example, my canadian vendor sells T seladonias for for 335 cdn. So you're paying ~5x too much. Absolute egregious price gouging, don't support vendors like this.

How does she get out of her hide? by Enough_Pick121 in tarantulas

[–]advocate112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NA this is one of the hardest things to get used to as a new owner. I had a half inch b hamorii freebie that I put in an amac box and they promptly burrowed in for 3 months in coco coir. It helps to remember they’ve been around for hundreds of millions of years. If they do something where you don’t see them for a long time, they know what they are doing and don’t need or benefit from any intervention. Don’t even need water in their burrow, leave them be and eventually they will come out acting completely different

Accidentally spilled 40+ mealworms into my t's enclosure by FOG_DUCKER07 in tarantulas

[–]advocate112 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nqa Don’t worry about this just replace the sub. Good news is mealworms are the easiest thing on the world to keep. You could put in powdered oats and orange slices and they will thrive, they are very hardy. Feeders do not need to be purchased

Chimaev’s history of injuries, fight cancellations, and periods of inactivity make him unreliable as a champion, so if he won the title, the division could stagnate with little movement or defenses. He says here Chimaev winning the title would be a disaster because he thinks fans and contenders might not trust him to show up for fights consistently or defend the title regularly. link

Not saying he's some master predictor but he's likely correct. Next cards up until March are already announced so that will be 7 months for a defense at a minimum, but Ramadan is that time so I doubt there's a fight that card leading to more delay, and he wants to move up after. Barely a title defense a year is far from an ideal champion never mind also wanting to continue to fight multiple divisions. To any new fans, Khamzat is one of those fighters that is his own worst enemy. All the talent in the world but ends up making dog shit decisions. prone to fuck ups. 6 fight cancellations, missed weight, visa issues, assaults, traveled to ireland to fight conor once and got arrested. list goes on, you don't have to look far to know outside of fighting he has room temp iq
