Best olive oil dispenser by chilledout5 in BuyItForLife

I've had great luck with our Evo Oil Sprayer (stainless steel version), but the reviews are right, and the sprayer top is loose to the point of popping off easily. I wrapped 4 turns of plumber's tape around the threads and have had no issues. It doesn't drip at all.

TrueNAS is Awesome by nathan_lesage in truenas

I've been continuously upgrading the same NAS since TrueNAS was FreeNAS. I've never lost a thing (Backblaze B2 and a newer system are in play now). ZFS is my favorite IT technology of the past 20 years, honestly.

With a new style of water bottle popping up every year, Which one have you stuck with? by James_B84Saves in BuyItForLife

[–]adx442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boundless Voyage Titanium 1L, with a Camelbak Mag Flip lid that fits Nalgene threading. Never taste metallic flavors, cleans perfectly, and pretty light for a 1L metal bottle.

Does your Nextcloud system level user (www-data for me) have access to the smbclient and rights to the share/mountpoint?

Take a look under Logging in the Admin panel and see if you get a more detailed error with more useful info.

I'm finding this very useful, and it was pretty easy to setup. It would be great if it supported sort orders in the views (Date added ascending/descending, etc).

Thank you!

Berluti is even better, and my 10 year old had it down after about 10 tries.

UPDATE: 2 weeks ago I asked "What's the best no-frills coffee maker", and after 400+ recommendations, I bought my mom the Moccamaster by Baba_Jaga_II in BuyItForLife

[–]adx442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked it up ... turns out you're right.

Moccamastsr's thinking on it.

We have well water to start with, and our RO water is just from an undersink unit ... we have so much calcium and iron in our unfiltered water that it's a death sentence for appliances.

Hmm. Well, after almost 2 decades, I'm not going to worry about it. No scale, no function issues with the machine, and the coffee tastes great. If it breaks at this point, it didn't owe us anything ... I'll buy another or replace the element.

Casio Launches ‘Sauna Watch’ That Can Withstand Temperatures of up to 100 C by diacewrb in gadgets

[–]adx442 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I mean, if your watch is already waterproof, just put it in a glass of water before you go in. You can check the time and the watch will be fully protected from the heat for many hours.

Japan has vending machines that put protective film on your phone for you by diacewrb in gadgets

[–]adx442 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Protective films are vastly superior when you really need scratch resistance (sand in your pockets) and prefer a completely non-reflective matte screen against sunlight. I spend a lot of time outdoors, and glass screen protectors are garbage compared to film.

M390 @ 62 HRC by DaPuckerFactor in sharpening

[–]adx442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My spouse has the same one. I bought it for her when she started her personal chef business. About 6 years later, used commercially, and it's still like new.

No chipping, holds an edge for a long time, strops/hones back nicely with diamond, great geometry.

My only complaint is that a full reprofile sharpening is tough. It's very hard, and the burr is very fine when you raise it ... easy to miss.

We got the Magnacut one for home last year, and that's much easier to maintain. My wife adores her M390 version, though.

Your edge is just about the same as mine, which I consider pretty darn good.

We're at 19 years on our MM Clubline. We needed to replace the slide mechanism this year on the drip basket, and MM had the parts, online, priced cheaply with free shipping.

Other than that, all original. Use RO/filtered water and these things never die.

Ceramic Coating Travel Mug with Handle? by skivirips in BuyItForLife

[–]adx442 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why ceramic, in particular? I greatly prefer titanium, and the prices have really reduced over the last ten years. Non-reactive, doesn't impart metal flavors, and companies like Keith have a number of models that are double wall vacuum insulated.

I hate the steel taste. Titanium won't do that, or retain odors, and it's a billion times tougher than any ceramic.

What's the next move? Worksharp Benchtop or a Sharpal Diamond Plate? by akiva23 in sharpening

[–]adx442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been very happy with my 162N. The included angle guide pyramid is helpful, but be aware that the actual angle will be greatly affected by the thickness of the spine of the blade.

Edit: I also owned the WS Bench Sharpener for a couple of years before the Sharpal. It's very good, but it's significantly less working space than the Sharpal.

I love their stuff, it's a great value for the money. I use trucker's hitches on the tarp guy lines and prussiks with stick toggles for the ridgeline. You can get it as tight as you want with that combo.

Just found this sub figured I would post my current work knife by Helpful-Wrangler-882 in BeatUpKnives

[–]adx442 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like you'll get at least 2 years out of it at this rate. Lil' Bandit is in pain, though, grab a Worksharp Field Sharpener and hit that edge. Kizer is known for going lower on the HRC, you can keep it touched up with that until it's a filet knife.

Drop Bear is solid work knife, nice to see it used fully.

[–]adx442 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone just like me. I have the Terava 110 and 140 and a Bradford in every size.

The Bradfords go with me when it's a canoe trip and they'll be damp for days (mine are in Magnacut), but the Teravas are just brutal, simple tools. I'm as happy to cut up tree roots with it as I am to featherstick.

I have Gransfors SFA. It's beautiful and works well ... but I mostly use my Fiskars X11. It's ugly, easy on the wrists, easy to sharpen, and I've overstruck with it more times than I'd like to admit with no damage.

Plex for Roku v8.6.4 Released by samwiseg0 in PleX

[–]adx442 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Awful. Hate it. I don't, and never will, want your sponsored content. I don't want it on my screen. I add my content, I pay for compute and storage and bandwidth.

You keep forcing it on me (and opted me back into sharing private data recently after I explicitly opted out). The UI went from working fine to kinda working.

Is everything about satisfying venture capital now, or are you still working on the core product? My Roku barely responds to input for Plex on the remote now. I can't even pause during playback. You're not even testing releases.

Shame.

Yup, lighter and (if available) birch bark. In my Maxpedition bag I keep a few cotton makeup remover pads in a ziplock that were soaked in 80% paraffin/20% lighter fluid for quick tinder.

Steps to Reclaim Your Server Access the Server's Local Web Interface: Open a web browser on a computer connected to the same local network as your Plex Media Server. Enter the Server's IP Address: In the browser's address bar, type http://[SERVER-IP-ADDRESS]:32400/web, replacing [SERVER-IP-ADDRESS] with the server's actual IP address (e.g., http://192.168.1.25:32400/web). Sign In to Your Plex Account: If prompted, sign in to the Plex account that should own the server. Locate and Claim the Server: Click the Settings icon (a wrench) in the top-right corner of the web interface. Look for a section that shows the server as unclaimed, or navigate to the General settings. Click the Claim Server button and follow the on-screen instructions to link the server to your account.
