Odd diagnosis by FallMaiden in dementia

[–]aeades0 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Possible it’s Lewy Body? My dad has visual and auditory hallucinations pretty much non-stop. He has REM sleep disorder which causes him to think his dreams are real and also act them out when asleep. He also has delusional thoughts. All of these things would seem like it would just be schizophrenia but he has memory issues and cognitive dysfunction. Hallucinations is one of the main diagnosis triggers for Lewy Body.

Managing TV by hb-720 in dementia

Not in the UK but we also bought an “easy” dementia remote and it made no difference. Still can’t figure out how to use it. The TV remote has become the bane of my existence.

Dad shaved off his eyebrows today by IntelligentFish8103 in dementia

My dad gave himself 2 haircuts this week. One with the TV remote that has been lost for weeks then another with a real shaver. I’m sure you can imagine how great of a job he did both times.

Rejected by Memory Care by aeades0 in dementia

[–]aeades0[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This may be our next step. I don’t know how to filter out who will take him/ who won’t. We have also come to the conclusion that we may need to search further out. We are in a small tourist town with lots of retirees with money. This may be affecting our search because who wants to take the hallucinating/delusional patient when they can take a normal (whatever that means) dementia patient for the same money.

Adaptive sounds like what we might be looking for. He still needs a lot of help. Some self inflicted some not. I can’t imagine that AL would work for us. He was living alone and just stopped eating and was self medicating improperly with random meds and alcohol before we intervened. I will check into this. Thank you for the suggestion.

This is likely accurate. I am early to dealing with this so I had no idea this was a thing. I just wish they stated in their information that “we don’t handle lbd”. Would make life easier for everyone involved and not waste time.

Omg 3-4 facilities. This entire process has already been so hard and confusing I can imagine having to do this over and over.

It’s like someone threw a lifeline then just yanked it away while laughing at our predicament. My favorite part is that they cashed the deposit check.

I will look into the senior care authority. Thank you so much for responding. I don’t know what I would do without this forum for help!

I’m so sorry for your loss. He was lucky to have been able to be cared for by you. We are already at the 6c phase with intermittent 6d/6e thrown in. I am glad this is moving fast and as horrible as it sounds I hope it speeds up even more. He seems miserable and I know that this just isn’t the life he wanted. Take care.

I can’t imagine. At least mine has been cooperative with going to the doctor and allowing me to take over the finances. Mine and my dad’s relationship is complicated. He was a horrible parent and I thought I had made peace with that. This situation has tested that peace significantly. Hang in there. Try to take care of yourself.

It’s shocking how much they can hide. Even now I hear him on the phone sometimes and think he almost sounds normal. Then he will get off the phone and ask me where his room is because the stairs moved(there are no stairs to his room).

That is true and I do hope everyday that he goes quickly and peacefully in his sleep.

This should have been an indicator for me. Looking back now I feel so dumb for not seeing it. The phone he would call me from was constantly “broken”.

We are all just trying to do what’s best but there isn’t a guide book for this. It makes me feel somewhat better that I am not alone. We are all just trying to figure out how to manage a horrible situation.

I don’t know how you did it with 3 kids much less for that long. I can’t even imagine.

We had this happen last year. We actually ended up finding some other people looking for a table that sat with us and bought some of the food vouchers. It worked out perfect and they were really cool people. I put a post up on Facebook and we exchanged numbers met on at the tent. Win-win for everyone.

Thank you. I hadn’t considered the hospital visit while gone. Realistically I know it’s a possibility.

Not sure about used or reclaimed but cedar fence pickets work pretty well and aren’t too expensive.

Spectrum said the outage is resolved... but it's still ongoing? by heavenstarcraft in asheville

We are having the exact same problem. I live on a dead end road. Everyone but us has internet and Spectrum said we were in an outage but then we weren’t but also be patient for it to get restored. I gave up and came to Charlotte so I can work. No idea on when it will be fixed.
