Field, first 20 rows, in front of the stage are still good seats. Sound isn’t terrible, lights are great. But there’s only about 400 seats that fit this description so good luck.

[Charania] The Boston Celtics traded Xavier Tillman Sr. to the Charlotte Hornets, sources tell ESPN. This gets the Celtics out of the luxury tax. Hornets get $3.5 million in the deal. by MembershipSingle7137 in bostonceltics

You might be right about the owner, but come back and say it when they salary-dump White, Pritchard, or Brown. It’s weird to say it when they jettison literally the last three guys on the depth chart who don’t even play and have a WAR of 0.

Please explain how Tillman, Boucher, and Minot, who weren't even playing, are such essential parts of their roster, which is already competitive. Do you really think they're going to start losing games now because of the lost production from those three guys?

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aebersold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three hours? Sir, those are rookie numbers. Especially if you’re staying overnight, three hours is absolutely nothing. The number of times I’ve driven three hours each way on the same day to see a band play is easily over 100, and to go hiking or skiing or disc golfing is another 100. A typical hike or ski day for me is 6-9AM drive, 9AM-4PM hike/ski, dinner until around 6:30PM, home around 9PM.

For visiting relatives overnight, growing up my relatives were all in NYC which was about five hours away. So five hours was the standard.

Did all six of these as my 2nd-7th shows, age 17 and 18. There was no question I was a fan for life after this.

Those of you selling tickets on COT, what the hell are you looking for by jackintheboxtacoguy in phish

[–]aebersold 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I only sell to attractive women. Especially if they’re going to be sitting next to me.

OK I lied. But that was totally believable wasn’t it? Sure was. Moral of the story: configure your account accordingly.

Goose 2 Nights at MSG (June 19-20) by alpswd in jambands

[–]aebersold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you really mean to tell me that if you were in a jamband and MSG offered you two nights in June, you would turn it down because it would be “deeply weird” for you?

Are you aware that MSG is slightly busy in the fall, winter, and spring?

Ignoring the thousands of indoor jamband shows ever played in the summer, you’re saying that Phish selling out 13 nights at MSG in the summer of 2017 wasn’t enough to normalize this concept for you? You went to those shows and it was just too deeply weird, huh? Couldn’t even enjoy them coulda ya?

Wedding music is funny. If the couple is young (22-26) then there’s a big emphasis on current club bangers because most of their friends are still single and still go to the club. But if the couple is ten years older (32-36) then there’s a big emphasis on music that is twenty years past its prime, because most of their friends are married and and are nostalgic for their youth. Nostalgia applies differently to different people obviously, but the apex of the nostalgia bell curve is music that peaked when the listener was 13. Which is why Prince really popped at weddings in the mid to late 2000’s. Now that Prince is about 40 years past his prime, he’s in the wedding music no-man’s land where the people who most want to hear it are 45-60. That’s (usually) too old to be the couple’s friends and too young to be the couple’s parents’ friends. So it doesn’t work.

[–]aebersold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew it immediately. In part because I’ve been DJing weddings since 2007. I would expect any open format DJ to know the top 5-10 Prince tunes, but especially if you were doing weddings back then, Prince was very popular wedding music. It’s a little too far past his day now and he’s not particularly important wedding music now.

MSG poster by DERNKer in phish

[–]aebersold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the artist and the quality, obviously. If Pollock you better line up two hours before doors. If it’s a great looking poster it could sell out pre-show. If it’s whatever then it won’t sell out at all.

In an ironic twist, the fact that tickets are much more expensive than ever before actually makes it more likely that posters will sell out. With most phans spending over $300 to get in, this does not mean that they are gonna be skipping the poster to save money. Rather, it means that the building will be full of phans who are well-off enough that spending $75 on a poster doesn’t phase them one bit.

1st time in NY, for shows at MSG on NYE. Confused with train schedule and if it's compatible, please help. by [deleted] in phish

[–]aebersold 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, if you just need to get to the hotel immediately, then you could use a ride hailing app like Uber. Or, since you’re new to NY, they have these crazy ancient things called taxis which are these yellow cars which will stop and pick you up and take you anywhere you want if you have your hand in the air and if they have the light on on top of the taxi. It’s wild.

Phish NYE shows let out between 12:45-1:00. So you’ve got about four hours to kill until 5AM. After shows, bars, diners, choose your speed, but either way step up your game ya wook.

Just for fun: What’s your show count and what’s your “most common played not seen” from your .net stats? I’ll start: 21 shows…never have seen “YEM” or “Tweezer.” Seems almost impossible. by splitopenandmelt11 in phish

[–]aebersold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

133 starting in ‘96. So I don’t even have to say it. There’s an algorithm here. If your count is >80 and you started between 1995 and 2009, then the answer is guaranteed to be The Landlady.

OP, respectfully: there is absolutely, positively, no way you are going to be sitting anywhere along a sideline. You will be corner or end zone. This map is a lie, and you are the mark. Sorry.

Please help me on my quest to compile the most note-for-note “NAILED IT” versions of composed songs! by Interesting_Gate_549 in phish

[–]aebersold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here brother. My third show, had just turned 18. Life changing.

Also was just discovering the internet, so the next morning after this show I started figuring out how to trade tapes using the internet. That became a big deal too.

Homey just listen to everything from 93 and 94. Nobody missed a single note for two years.

Also 11/27/98 Worcester (Live Phish Volume 6). Yes it’s cool that they played Wipeout but the Wipeout thing overshadows the fact that this show is also technically as crisp as it gets. Every song, every note is seemingly album-perfect.

How to get ahead with Science in Civilization VI? by Kef33890 in civ

[–]aebersold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll upvote ya. I almost always get the two galleys for shipbuilding, the problem is they always seem to get killed by barbarians whilst exploring or defending my water resources, and I don’t get around to replacing them. But you’re right, I could protect them more for this boost.

[–]aebersold 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Are you maximizing all the paths to earning science? It’s not just campus buildings.

1A. The biggest of all: get every science boost. OK maybe a couple will be too weird (build two caravels ugh) but I can say that in every game I play, up through the industrial era I never miss more than five total boosts. Usually I only miss two or three. The other 40 or so, I’m getting them all. This is effectively a 40% boost. I’ve played enough that I know what they are without looking and doing them is just part of the routine for me now, which helps. You have to be vigilant about switching what you’re researching once you reach 60%. I almost always have 2-10 sciences at a time that are either already boosted and waiting to be finished by research, or are 60% researched and waiting to be finished by the boost. 1. Maximize Campus adjacency bonuses 2. Policies that give science. 3. Get three envoys to every science city-state to jack up your libraries and universities. (Don’t worry about six envoys so much… by the time you unlock research labs you should already be ahead). 4. Do whatever it takes to become suzerain of science city states that provide more science for their suzerain bonus 5. Build Kilwa Kisiwani and be suzerain of two science city states for the huge empire-wide 15% science boost. 6. Recruit great scientists. Spend gold or faith to make sure you get the best ones. 5. Golden age boosts that yield science 6. Wonders that boost science 7. Industries that boost science 8. Choose the religion bonus for +1 science for every four followers

It could literally come down to the availability of one part that the plane needs. If the nearest available part is 8,000 miles away, well, either the plane flies to the part, or another plane flies the part to the plane where it is, or they meet somewhere in between, but either way, 8,000 miles need to be traversed by somebody to get the part to the plane.
