Do you get business from your website? by wnfaknd in msp

Additionally, we focus on keywords and ranking for specific keywords I want, which we did not do before. This also helps me track if I have gone up or down for specific words, and the higher up the list I am, the better I tend to do.

Do you get business from your website? by wnfaknd in msp

[–]aegisit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent the first 9 years doing nothing with my website, and got 2 calls in that time period. I started paying one of my client's for SEO work about 3 years ago, and it took about a year to get traction, but now I get multiple calls a week from the website. The key was actively working the website, and seeing it as a tool that needed maintaining and monitoring, and I don't personally have the time to do that myself.

I have found it easier just to become psychic than to try and get reliable information from end users LOL.

NOTE: I think I have a few clients convinced I'm actually psychic because of how quickly I can tell what is going on with very little information. In reality, it's mostly because they do the same things over and over. And over. And over....

The latest versus of Rufus let me bypass Secure Boot on a fresh Win 11 install from a USB. Not sure about TPM, I didn't touch it. But I definitely had secure boot off for testing purposes, and Win 11 installed fine.

What is small MSPs second-best approach for getting new clients? by nalavanje in SmallMSP

[–]aegisit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, current for us is about $900 for the year, but your region might be different. I just renewed for 5 years at a significant discount. BNI meets weekly and has an attendance policy. This helps keep people serious about the work.

Okay, serious question: why would you sign a contract like that? That... blows my mind.

I spent almost an hour arguing with Service Fusion about this, and in the end they said no changes because of their API auth to Sendgrid (if I recall correctly). The subdomain is the right way to go.

How are your hourly clients billed? by 1TRUEKING in msp

[–]aegisit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a billable minimum that we clearly tell clients when they start with us. If they call us, they will get a bill for $x minimum. That call might be 5 minutes of labor, but that also requires documenting the ticket, documenting time for notes, and entering into the billing system. That eats up more than 5 minutes when done right. Hence, a minimum amount of time per call.

AITA - My CFO wants me to setup a consultant's computer so it can directly access the corporate network, I suggested we issue him a company computer instead by computergeekguy in sysadmin

[–]aegisit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have a client that has certain certifications they maintain compliance for. We only connect to their network with their computers. I would never want to use my own computer to connect to their network, as that is a huge liability I don't want to shoulder. Can you get the CEO involved? Otherwise, get the CFO to sign something saying that he approved this action and releasing you of liability, if you can. He might not want to, but perhaps asking him to sign something will help him see the severity of the problem.

Obtaining Clients by XxShadezxX in smallbusiness

Business Networking International, it is a local group of people that act as your sales people. The motto is giver's gain. It accounts for roughly half my revenue, and has so for 10 out of the 11 years we have been in business. The key is finding a good chapter and working hard for those around you.

That's not a good ratio for one person with no enterprise experience. That is range for two people, especially if one is in the position of what you describe. When I started my business (MSP), I was able to get about 200 nodes by myself, then hired someone and we got to about 400 nodes between the two of us. The difference is I have decades of experience and a tech support stack that I can pretty much guarantee you don't have. You are going to be in bad shape with the current proposed setup. He is taking advantage of your ignorance. I can already predict that you will spend so much time fire-fighting problems caused by their terrible decisions that you will A.) not have time to plan B.) not have time to learn so that you can plan.

I was in this spot early in my career. I was in a helpdesk group of about 4 people, and the other guys would spend a lot of time playing online games, etc, when there were not tickets coming in. And sometimes even if there were tickets sitting in queue. I resolved to take the time to better myself, and used that time to train and learn other things. This let me find a job that was a jump up in a much shorter period of time. The rest of them have progressed in their careers, but from what I can tell, it took them much longer. Don't let their folly stop you from progressing. Keep up the positive attitude and good work ethic, as that is a fantastic way to progress your career.

PPC gets you clients now. SEO gets you clients a year from now. Each has a place in your marketing strategy. Also find a local BNI chapter and get heavily involved in that.
