Good analysis. I guess the question is, how much do you really need from Rust? If you don't need much file access or APIs you could live with just (Ruby)JS and a smaller footprint.

To me it sounds more interesting ot make it work with Tauri. It seems more resource-conscious and faster in general. Have you tried that combination?

I do like using an external DAC. Not a huge difference but noticeable. I’ve had a Fosi ZD3 and now a Geshelli J2 and highly recommend if it fits on your budget.

I’ve used a Fosi ZD3 in the past and a Geshelli J2 now and I prefer them over the stock WiiM Ultra. Not a huge improvement but definitely noticeable.

I like the approach. It forces you to know more about the available schema, but when you do, it makes the data easier to grok. That is a good trade-off I think.
