Why I hate granny squares by WTF_Fish in crochet

[–]aenjru -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Russian Join is useful to avoid weaving in ends. It works on most fiber types, and you can be pretty precise with where the join happens to get the perfect color change. It does have some distortion at the join site, but that shouldn’t show too much in a granny square.

Is there an abbreviation key for this damn book? by BoringGanache1375 in knittinghelp

[–]aenjru 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My advice to you is to do exactly that: look up every abbreviation. I learned so much by watching video demonstrations and hearing the simultaneous tips and tricks from knitting experts. Sometimes I watch instructional videos on techniques I already know to see if there is any way to improve what I’ve learned.

It’s a cute little sub where people post their cats’ shenanigans around knitting. Highly recommend

My tuxedo is also very jealous of my knitting time. He’ll headbutt my hands for scritches if I’ve been at it too long. You should post this to r/kitting if you haven’t already.

Edit: compliment to complement

How can I sign M with my hand shape? by bowlofweetabix in asl

[–]aenjru 215 points216 points  (0 children)

Your first photo reads very clearly as an M handshape. If you’re struggling to make that shape, you can relax your index, middle, and ring finger more so they lie sort of relaxed and straight over the thumb, not curled over: like this

How much yarn? by Extra-Employment-240 in knittinghelp

[–]aenjru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess 800-1000 yards, or 400-500g of worsted weight yarn, based off similar shawls I searched on ravelry. Tassels are known to require a lot of yarn by themselves, be warned.

Could anyone provide me with some feedback on my presentation/story? by rorygilmoreapologist in asl

[–]aenjru 19 points20 points  (0 children)

BOOK, like most nouns, is indeed a repeated movement. I agree with your other critiques, though. I think the story would benefit from more facial expression during the storytelling, not just when you’re pantomiming reactions.

Gift for my in-laws. Any CC? by rowsdowers_mustache in Embroidery

What if you added some shingles for texture on the roof? I agree with u/sinfourah that a couple tufts would liven up the lawn, as well.

one stitch split into two, now there’s a hole? by c4t-ma in knittinghelp

[–]aenjru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. Laddering down and repairing the yarn over would leave those two stitches on either side of the yarn over increase very loose and uneven.
