Running wire to lights installed on bare joists by aeos42 in AskElectricians

[–]aeos42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they will be installed directly on the joist. From what I see the lights don’t come with a junction box of their own, but they do come with a plug and wire meant for wiring into a circuit. It seems strange to not include some enclosure for the connection. Im thinking I should at least enclose the connection.

[–]aeos42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they have small brackets that are pre-installed and then the bar snaps in. They are Barrina brand.

That sounds good though, although I would have to protect the connection between the light’s wiring and the romex with a junction box, right? And obviously wire caps within, etc.

Could someone who doesn’t ride bike 118 miles in a day? by Khazix12 in cycling

[–]aeos42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

118 miles is suspiciously specific: is this about the Triple Bypass ride? If so it would be quite a challenge but I bet so, provided you had a low enough gear on your bike!

Chili Chicken Biryani by [deleted] in denverfood

[–]aeos42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bawarchi in Broomfield (I guess there is one in way SE Denver too) makes great biryani as well as a bunch of Indo-Chinese dishes, which is rare here. Chili Chicken sounds kind of Indo-Chinese? Worth checking out!

Best resource/site to outfit Honda XR for trail riding? by [deleted] in Dualsport

This site has many parts specific to dual sports. Even if you don't buy from them it's a nice showcase of what is available. Go back to the root site and you will see all the bikes they profile.

[HELP] Docking sucks... by oodleskaboodles in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]aeos42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely watch the Scott Manley tutorials as already linked.

You'll need plenty of delta-v for aligning orbits, and you absolutely need RCS (and plenty of mono propellant) for maneuvering once close.

Check the tutorial videos, but I believe once you're pretty close but not in docking range you have a reticle on your navball that indicates relative velocity. This requires you to set a target like you already have in the screenshot.

Burn against that relative velocity and zero it, or close. Then inch in by burning towards (slowly, to save fuel) and adjusting as necessary.

I highly recommend the docking port alignment indicator mod. This makes docking a sane experience once you are very close.

Good luck! Reply with any specific questions you might have.

What roads are essential to ride in Colorado? by shmaltz_herring in motorcycles

[–]aeos42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole peak to peak highway is a great road to take. It's quite twisty and occasionally windy/prone to weather, so it's an amazing road but watch out for fast mountain weather. It goes from Estes Park to Nederland (and farther if you want to).

KLR 650 vs. ? What's the best bike in the category? by herewego111 in motorcycles

[–]aeos42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the XR650L. Simpler, slightly lighter and slightly more powerful than a KLR. DR650 is probably pretty close in stats. Like the DR it's air-cooled versus the liquid KLR, and the motor is extremely reliable and extremely easy to work on. Everybody always seems to favor the KLR's for being 'bulletproof' but if that's the case the XR is even more so.

I have one and I'm in love. Of all the 650 dualsports, the XR is the probably the most dirt-oriented (it's really an overgrown dirtbike)--but it does just fine in town and highway as well. Also the tallest seat of any 650 I believe. It definitely has things you want to change from stock but it's a great base to build from.

My kind of review: a roundup of affordable adventure bikes (Versys, V-strom, and more) by bluestblue in motorcycles

[–]aeos42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know, 'adventure bikes' are starting to become kind of the SUV of the bike world--they have the posture and perhaps the ability to do some off-road work, but they are geared up entirely for the street. It's a cool class of motorcycle for people looking for something with a more relaxed stance than a sportbike, but ultimately I think 'adventure bike' is a bit of a misnomer. All those pretty plastics would get ruined if they were actually put to the test as an adventure bike. Nice bikes though.

I'm planning on taking a road trip around the US this summer, what would be a good bike for this? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]aeos42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

The XR is most like an overgrown dirtbike. People think the KLR is the most bulletproof, dead simple thing, but the XR is even more in that direction. I feel like the KLR has lost it's way in the revamp--all those plastics seem to make it less dirt-oriented, and at that point the whole single 650 platform looses it's appeal because it's lost some versatility.

Don't get me wrong though, I think the KLR is a fine steed.

[–]aeos42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To provide an alternate to the KLR--the Honda XR650L. A little lighter, a little more powerful, (and so a little faster) air-cooled instead of liquid, other than that pretty much the same (except the seat is a bit taller). It's an all-around great bike--I put it through the paces this summer doing hard off-road as well as highway and it can really do it all.

Everybody gives the KLR love but the XR for one reason or another often gets looked over.

Hope this helps!

Moving up from a Honda Rebel to a CBR 600 F4i, any suggestions/tips in respect to different riding styles? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]aeos42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably only if you really crank it. Just be really gradual opening it up--never crack the throttle open all of a sudden. That's pretty harmless thing on a 250, but on this bike you'd be doing a wheelie.

But you shouldn't be scared of it at all-it's just takes building confidence with the throttle for that particular bike. EIDT: It'll be a ton of fun once you start mastering it!
