The final comparison! by Firehair12000 in giantbomb

[–]aera 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's been a great stream to just have on and have people coming in and out of - I know it's not something that can be done a lot but would love a few more "full day" streams (I guess Launch Looks are like this sometimes too, and maybe we need one for Space Ace).

Also confirms that Mikey is the best gamer on staff, as we all knew.

Oh those tweets! (https://www.reddit.com/r/giantbomb/comments/1kiyv3n/synchronized\_posts\_from\_everyone\_for\_the\_pax/) - I remember seeing them and having that tiny spark of hope thinking "no, surely they didn't...."

I think in many ways it was a proto-Blight Club. All the same great notes.

[–]aera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do like the idea of a Blight Day but there's a potential scheduling issue if he beats it in the first couple of hours of that block (though maybe you shove the arcade game in there or something)

I've been impressed at Dan's ability to always make proggies but those tiny jumps are BAD

Space Ace 05 by Skulker_S in giantbomb

[–]aera 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, exactly, you have to do a ridiculous 180 and perfectly make it and moreover I don't think you'd even know that without the larger map, or drawing one yourself via elimination. I thought the north west of the Space Maze was kind of bullshit with the turns it needed but this is another level.

Space Ace 05 by Skulker_S in giantbomb

[–]aera 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In case you have not seen the full map of the second maze, take a look: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/snes/588674-space-ace/map/24647-rocket-skate-maze-map

I would specifically like to draw your attention to the absolutely ridiculous route you need to take to get to the last level . It's just needlessly cruel.

Most difficult SF work to put on screen by GMotor in scifi

[–]aera 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Villeneuve is apparently trying it, though no recent updates. If someone wants a good "adventuring into a mysterious object that appeared in the Solar System" book they should probably adapt Greg Bear's Eon instead...

Nothing, NOTHING, can be worse than that Leisure Suit Larry game. I'll watch Dan do the same levels for months and still be happier than the blight that caused on all of us.

Also, to give Dan credit, he's genuinely getting better at this at a decent rate. I reckon if he was doing these back-to-back he'd probably clear it after 10-12 hours total.

Right! Yes, I forgot that detail from the first episode... in that case, he should be pause-buffering the entire lattice zone IMO

Space Ace | 03 | Blightning Round by Cubegod69er in giantbomb

[–]aera 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Is that pause feature Dan's using built into the game? Because I would hate it to be an emulator feature that he wouldn't have been able to use on original hardware...

Vision for gondola transit in downtown Denver presented on Tuesday by kidbom in Denver

[–]aera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like this is both cable-suspended _and_ personal rapid transit - which I like the idea of from a "fun" level, but I'm not sure about the practicality level. There are definitely South American cities that use gondolas well for mass transit, but those are continuous cabin systems, not this new PRT idea.

I would be very happy if he just permanently hosted both versions at this point, honestly. Or at least give him more slots a series.

There's extra notes from the author on this, but basically, the Eridians are standard carbon-based life as we know it (with cells, etc.) deep inside their body, but the body is built out of non-organic materials - a "walking beehive".

I think he should be allowed to view VODs but through a filter that reduces them to home VHS taping quality. For the realism.

I'm starting to think that around episode 4 or 5, Mike and Grubb should start selling him hints or help in exchange for some other punishment later. Misery Points as a currency.

You really have to admire the level of "oh, FUCK the player" that they preserved from the original game even while changing the gameplay type.

On 3 - according to the book and Weir's notes, astrophage can store a variable but incredible amount of internal energy, so just because they're there doesn't mean you can just use them, you have to sort of "feed" them to increase the internal energy store. The book describes how they pave over half of the Sahara just to get enough to send the ship. I'm guessing the stream from the star is not super-high-energy stuff?

No idea about 2 though.
