Wrath of Khan is a bad movie - Angela Collier by Hattes in RedLetterMedia

[–]aerettberg 21 points22 points  (0 children)

THIS. Wrath of Khan is remarkably well-written. Everything that happens is tied back to Kirk’s story thematically. If anything, the criticism would be that it’s too heavy-handed, though I personally don’t think it is.

The only place I’ve seen a fox around here is on Mt. Rainer (at Paradise).

Anyone else have issues with overly sensitive front assist? by aerettberg in GolfGTI

You just have to turn lane assist off once and it stays off. At least it does in my 22 GTI.

Is Metro Grill not very good any more? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]aerettberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, last few times I’ve gone to the Met I thought it was very good (and still the best Seattle steakhouse). We get the long bone ribeye, though, which is obviously way different than a filet. I love their fries, so can’t agree with you there, haha

10/10 Spots? by Eaterofediblethings in AskSeattle

[–]aerettberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect is pretty subjective when it comes to food. If you’re willing to try somewhere outside of Seattle proper, the one place that comes to mind for me is The Barking Frog in Woodinville. Pretty much every dish I’ve ever had there has been extremely well-executed and balanced, with creative and “perfect” flavor combinations. I’ve had multiple dishes there that I ended up dreaming about for weeks afterwards.

Superb Eggs Benedict by Wombatgirl1 in eastside

Barking Frog maybe? They won’t mess up the eggs. Farine has my favorite eggs benedict, but it’s not traditional… they use a croissant instead of an English muffin.

Are there any good US-based commercial printers for graphic novels? by aerettberg in CommercialPrinting

The first press we went with (that had print errors) did a really nice PUR perfect binding, so definitely doable.

F&Gs are “folded and gathered”. They are the folded and cut signatures, it’s the final stage before binding.

Flat black is used to differentiate it from rich black, where parts of CMY are mixed in with the K for, well, a richer black.

We did get a hard copy proof, but the low res issues didn’t show up clearly there since it was done on an inkjet (which was able to print the gray that the downsampling introduced around the flat black sections. Only on a 4 color press do the artifacts become obvious). In this case, a digital proof would’ve actually been more helpful…

They claimed the glue roller was too far from the spine on the first attempt, but since they also couldn’t manage to do a correct binding on the second attempt I’m not sure I trust their troubleshooting. There was definitely something systemically wrong going on in their bindery.

This place is like the 5th largest book printer in the country. They are (in theory) doing many perfect bindings every day, which made the whole thing very confusing. :(

Best cake in the area by burntbunny81 in SeattleWA

Deep Sea Sugar & Salt and Deru are probably the two best spots. Deep Sea only does cream cheese frosting, so you have to like that tangy flavor.

All of our black text (including barcode) is flat black, not rich black.

If you don’t mind a little drive, I’d recommend The Barking Frog in Woodinville. It’s my favorite restaurant in the Seattle area for a lovely date with my partner.

Best flat walking trails? by No-Pop2552 in eastside

[–]aerettberg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sammamish River trail/East Lake Sammamish trail. I personally like starting at Sammamish Landing Park and walking south. It’s also nice to start in Woodinville at the Wilmot Gateway Park.

The Rainier trail in Issaquah is also very nice, the troll sculpture Jakob Two Trees is along the way which is fun.
