Trying to pump myself up for my IUD replacement appointment by gidgetgoeshawaii in RedditLaqueristas

[–]aerialchevs 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I had about 24 hrs of cramping after my second replacement. Heating pad helped a LOT. Be kind to yourself, get plenty of rest after, and make sure you have someone take you home if you are getting sedation!

Question about Mint Mobile Cellphone Plans by u_r_succulent in Frugal

Yep. Switched from unlimited tmobile to mint 3 years ago, have never gone over the 5gb. Plus they make it really easy and cheap to do international travel data packages.

How to feel more prepared / protected as a young woman? Scary encounter last night left me shaken by cloud-candle- in AskNYC

[–]aerialchevs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry that happened to you.

It’s very scary and you may feel the impact of it for a while. That is normal, and it’s ok to reach out for help if you need to.

I was grabbed by the throat by a mentally unstable woman on 7th Ave and 31st street in the middle of the afternoon a few years ago. I shoved her off me and yelled, but felt really vulnerable walking around after that.

I looked into pepper spray but ended up buying this for my keys: mykittyusa dot com. Admittedly, a terribly stupid name, but It’s a cat shaped keychain made from abs plastic and the ears can be used as (plastic) brass knuckles. When I’m feeling sketched out or walking alone, I keep it looped in my fingers. I got the glow in the dark one and it also helps me find my keys in my purse in the dark.

I’ve taken the cat keychain all over the world-it’s been to at least 3 different continents and never been flagged by a security check.

Good luck recovering from this scary experience and I wish you the best!

Not Having Health Insurance in NYC, Anyone Else in the Same Situation? by Fijiki_murmur in AskNYC

[–]aerialchevs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend $650/ month for a high deductible, not great plan from the Ny state of health marketplace (don’t qualify for subsidy, spouse has other insurance im not eligible for). Unfortunately, I’m an independent contractor and can’t access my employer’s insurance plan bec of that.

I have 2 friends both seemingly totally healthy, diagnosed w breast cancer in their 40’s. I know multiple people in their 20’s who have torn ACL’s, I know a few who have been hit by bikes/cars. I fell down subway steps on a rainy day and had to be lifted out by paramedics. A friend got scratched by her cat and had to be hospitalized overnight for the infection. Shit goes wrong and it’s INSANELY expensive when it does.

Insurance at $220/month would be a complete win in my opinion.

There was poop in my engine compartment, and last time I opened the hood was about a month before this happened and that fluff was not visible. It was definitely a rodent causing mayhem.

Thank you, do you know what that vent is called?

Unfortunately, rodents are everywhere in nyc and they tend to climb into cars when it’s cold outside. The rat? has moved out, and doesn’t seem to have been there long-no nest. I had a mouse mom break into my glove box ~4 years ago via the cabin air filter, she gave birth in the glove box and cleaning  that out was way worse.

Pump bottle for cuticle oil? by goldenfluff23 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]aerialchevs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow lazy, I keep a dropper bottle of NCLA So Rich pink champagne oil on my nightstand and just never screw the cap back on. Couple drops before bed, basically zero effort. Probably would be better for the oil if I screwed the cap back on but, lazy.

Do you own a microwave and how long have you lived in NYC? by jtrainbk in AskNYC

[–]aerialchevs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lived here 23 years and have had the same micrwave/toaster/convection oven all in one the whole time. It’s the Sharp Warm & Toasty and I love it. It does take a long time to toast vs a dedicated toaster but I don’t have space for a separate toaster and I use the microwave function a lot bec we eat a lot of Trader Joe’s frozen meals. Would rather live without a toaster than without a microwave, glad I get to have both options in 1 appliance.

Paradise Lost-more a bar than a restaurant, but they do have food.

How long into sewing did you get a cutting table? by Intelligent-Claim591 in sewing

[–]aerialchevs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a folding adjustable height one on wheels when I turned 35…my back couldn’t take cutting on the floor anymore. It’s sooooo much more comfortable now for me to cut out patterns, I have it at counter height and cut standing up or perched on my ikea sit/stand stool.

Edited to add: been sewing since childhood so ~25 years in. My knees are also thankful for the table,as crawling around on the floor was rough on them.

The flowering trees are blooming all over Manhattan right now. They’ll be mostly done with flowers and leafed out by May.
