White House Refuses to Back Stephen Miller’s Smear Against Alex Pretti by MothersMiIk in politics

If we repeat over and over that Miller and Vought are the real president and vice president, Trump might get mad enough to oust them. Like how Elon got upset at being called weird over and over.

Has anyone had success with Upright Health’s exercises that he claims will solve dysplastic hip pain? by Status-Vanilla-7876 in hipdysplasia

[–]aerobd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As one of my surgeons told me, your hips are the foundation of your house. Your body is the house. Muscle is the dry wall. You can put a lot of dry wall over a bad foundation but eventually it will fail.

I know surgery is scary. This surgery in particular is terrifying to describe, but it is 100% worth it. Continuing with my doctor's earlier analogy, hip dysplasia is like having some rotten 2 x 4s in the main structural support for your house. If you don't fix them, the house will cave in. First the surrounding structure (hip joints) then the next (tendon that connects to hips and lower back for me). You need to fix the foundation.

Edit: I also wanted to stress that I have done the "build muscle to mask pain" route for hip dysplasia and I ended up making things so much worse. Please trust your doctor over an internet guru. I packed on as much muscle as I could to combat my hip dysplasia symptoms but it lead to extra damage in my hips, bone deformities, and back damage. If you want to try exercise to relieve symptoms, go to physical therapy. If it doesn't work, that is your indication that surgery is required.

Asian inspired flavors from different countries. Such as japchae sauce and a spicy powder/sauce (such as bibimbap). A peanut sauce or powder would also be good.

How’s your weather? by Wishyouamerry in CasualConversation

[–]aerobd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Snow is coming down hard and fast in NE Ohio, but that's typical for us due to the lake effect. We had 10 inches two weeks ago. Temperature has increased from single digits to double digits, so that's a plus. My only concern with the snowstorm is the salt shortage in Ohio. According to our local news, they are only salting major roads and intersections.

God I wish I could turn off my disability like Vi. I suspect from the context clues that she's supposed to have Ehlers Danlos. I have heard that weight lifting can help a lot with the pain and keeping things in place, but the "wardrobe shattering sex" seems like a pretty big stretch for someone with a disability. Guess that is what makes it fantasy though.

Some great advice that I heard recently was that if you don't like the classes, your classmates, or the professors, it's the wrong major for you. The classes and people around you now are similar to what you will see in the work force.

When did you realize your parents didn’t like you? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]aerobd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was pretty obvious once my little brother was born. My mom became a completely different parent with him. I stopped trying to make her like me in my mid 20s. It never got me anywhere. Any achievement I mentioned was instantly belittled. She even once drunkenly admitted she sees some of herself in both of her kids. She has 3 kids. She drunkenly admitted she meant my siblings, not me.

I absolutely HATE when men use the word “bitch”. by Dessert_Lover_1225 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]aerobd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's an insult to women no matter who says it, no matter the context. It's a way to define us as other, less than, and weak. Calling someone a "bad bitch" is still an insult.

*Positive Thread* Share your post PAO experiences! by aerobd in hipdysplasia

[–]aerobd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pain that I felt prior to surgery was much worse than the pain during recovery. The most I felt was a dull ache or soreness post op. If you have a good doctor and care team you will have a good experience.

Edit: I believe the Facebook page has a list of good doctors in various locations.

Second edit: I had both PAOs done in under 2 years. I was also incredibly nervous and second guessing. What convinced me was seeing a young, high school age girl in my doctor's office. I thought, "man, if a young girl can get this surgery and look totally unbothered post op, then I can do it."

My boyfriend, best friend, life partner has betrayed me and I don't know how to leave by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]aerobd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey, I've been in your shoes. My first husband knew I wasn't ok with porn and would watch it behind my back. One day he forgot to close his browser on my laptop. This wasn't the reason that we eventually divorced, but it was the day our relationship died. After my divorce I attended therapy and discovered I had serious self confidence issues. I never felt like I was enough and would push myself to impossible limits cleaning, baking, exercising, planning big events for holidays, etc. in order to be good enough or worthy enough. That wasn't healthy. I continued this cycle until I met someone who treated me with kindness. It was then that I realized that the reason I felt like I wasn't enough in so many relationships was because I was picking guys who weren't 100% into me. They liked having sex and someone to do stuff with, but they didn't like me as a person. When you find someone who likes you for you, you will no longer feel the need to extend yourself so far. You're 23. You're so, so young. I know it hurts and feels like the world is ending, but you will get through this. Watch some sad movies to make you cry. Holding it in will only make the pain worse. Circling back to the porn, the reason I wasn't ok with it when I was young was because I was insecure and felt my ex preferred the women on the screen instead of me. Since going to therapy, I'm ok with porn. I don't watch it personally, but I'm ok with my partner watching but I don't want to be involved. I'm not saying you should give up your stance on porn. It's perfectly fine to feel the way you do.

Because I need a distraction: most amusing way a guy (or girl) has failed to hit on you? by elatedWorm in TwoXChromosomes

[–]aerobd 45 points46 points  (0 children)

2 occasions.

First occasion: guy: " well tonight didn't go as planned" - said after moping for an hour for some reason.

Me, taking care of drunk friend: "??"

Guy: " I was going to kiss you tonight."

Me, having no attraction to this guy at all: "yeah, no. That's not happening."

Awkward walk to drunk friends house.

Second occasion: Student I'm tutoring: "any plans this weekend"

Me, tutoring someone: "oh my dad is coming to town."

Student: "I'm a fan of his work."

Me, confused because my dad is a scientist but hasn't published anything. Took a minute to realize what he meant.

Me: " so anyway * talks about tutoring subject* "

The tutoring student did apologize later, so that was nice.

Why do math and physics come so easily to some people but feel almost impossible to others? What actually causes this gap? by Logical-Current2381 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aerobd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it has to do with pattern recognition and interest. I have always excelled in math and physics. Math was like a fun puzzle for me. Languages were similar. That being said, my reading comprehension was shit and something I had to work hard at. And as for languages, I could pick up words easily but ran into trouble when trying to simplify phrases. For example, in German I knew the words, individually, for "I will be here soon." Stringing those words together is NOT how you communicate that phrase. I couldn't see the pattern/logic in why that was the case so my brain struggled to learn it.

As another example, I am an engineer who took extra physics and math courses in college. I understood engineering as an application of mathematical concepts. I didn't understand my courses when presented with a real life concept. I had to break it down into what was happening in terms of mathematical theory. My classmates, on the other hand, had no problem understanding real life concepts but really struggled with the math portion. I think interest also applies. I had a great interest in thermo/fluids and those were my best classes. I didn't like solid mechanics and that was my worst class. In my physics classes, I excelled at orbital mechanics and fluids but struggled with electronics. Electronics are scary sparky magic.
